Telugu Box Office: Pushpa 2 vs Kalki 2898 AD

Pushpa 2 is one of the most anticipated films not just in Tollywood but on the pan-India level as well. Many expect this Allu Arjun starter to perform in the KGF2 and Baahubali 2 range in other languages. Interestingly, its performance can’t be predicted in Telugu and it will depend on a lot of factors. Even the first part underperformed in Telugu while it did a tremendous job in the northern markets.

Now, Kalki 2898 AD Telugu numbers have put a massive target for Pushpa 2. The Sukumar project has the ability to cross Kalki worldwide numbers as it has the advantage of sequel anticipation. This advantage can drive Pushpa 2 to do double Kalki 28898 AD in other languages. 

But crossing Kalki in Telugu will not be so easy. So far, the Prabhas starter has collected more than 160 Cr share in Telugu states. The worldwide figure is more than 250 Cr and about Rs 275 Cr share is expected in full run. Definitely, this is a big target for Pushpa 2 so it will be interesting to see what kind of business Pushpa 2 manages to do.

Ajay Devgn’s sports biographical drama Maidaan was released earlier this year to positive reviews and a special word for Ajay Devgn’s performance. Unfortunately, the film failed to sustain at the box-office and the lack of buzz and weak promotions meant that Maidaan posted weak opening numbers and emerged as a massive box office disaster.

After the film started streaming on OTT in Hindi, it started receiving great appreciation from the audience. Now, the film is streaming south versions as well on Amazon Prime Video. It is available for the audience in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. It is being described as a good watch for sports lovers and those who are interested in Indian football’s history.

Directed by Amit Sharma, ‘Maidaan is a biographical sports drama featuring Ajay Devgn in the role of football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim. He was a football coach in India between 1952 and 1962 and helped India receive worldwide recognition.

The film features Priyamani, Gajaraj Rao, Devyansh Tripathi, Boney Kapoor, Nitanshi Goel, and Aayesha Vindhara in pivotal roles. Zee Studios, Bayview Projects and Fresh Lime Films jointly produce the sports drama.

Nagarjuna For Akhil

Agent was a massive setback for Akhil. He had pinned a lot of hopes on this project and worked extremely hard for the project for a long time. Unfortunately, the film was not just a box office failure for Akhil and Surender Reddy, but also one of Tollywood’s biggest-ever flops.

Akhil has maintained an extremely low profile since the debacle of Agent. It’s been more than one year for Agent but still his next project has not been officially announced. Akhil’s next film will be directed by a debutant Anil under UV Creations. It is going to be a big-budget project with a lot of VFX work film. An official announcement is expected to be made soon.

Post the UV Creations project, Nagarjuna will produce a film with Akhil which will be set against a rural mass backdrop. Nagarjuna has given a green signal to the the script of Kishore [Vinaro Bhagyam Vishnu Katha] director. The film is said to be set in Chittoor backdrop. Akhil is now selecting the scripts with great care and Nagarjuna is also completely involved in this process.

Tamil Actor, Vijay Sethupathi made a thumping comeback with his recent outing, Maharaja. The film received unanimous positive response on the first day and performed very well in the first weekend. Maharaja also went on to gross 40 crores worldwide in the first weekend which was an amazing number for him. Everyone felt that the film may join the 100 crore club after this. But it looks Vijay Sethupathi has missed the 100 crore club as its OTT release date has been announced.

Maharaja’s prospects were spoiled by recently released Kalki 2898 AD starring Prabhas. Prabhas’ enjoys a popularity in Tamil Nadu as well thanks to his earlier Baahubali series. This film also has Kamal Haasan playing a pivotal role making it to do well in the Tamil Market as well. But Maharaja on the other hand saw a drop due to these reasons. Maharaja will be somewhere beyond 80 crores in the full run which is also a good run for Vijay Sethupathi.

The Actor was really struggling to have a hit and Maharaja stood as a good comeback which he had quoted in the success meet as well. He may try for this club with his upcoming films but it may be doubtful whether he would reach this coveted club in the future. Maharaja will be streaming on July 12th on the leading OTT giant, Netflix.

The G.O.A.T, also known as The Greatest of All Time starring Tamil Actor, Vijay is directed by Venkat Prabhu. The film is already riding high on the expectations and currently under shoot. Tollywood Production House, Mythri Movie Makers has now grabbed the distribution rights of the Telugu Dubbed Version of The G.O.A.T.

Mythri Movie Makers will distribute the film in Telugu States. It is also rumoured that the distribution rights are fixed at around 30 crores which is huge. This will be Vijay’s career highest pre-bizz in Telugu States. The same production house is also producing Vijay counterpart Ajith’s current film, Good Bad Ugly. It was also rumoured that this production house tried to produce Vijay’s upcoming film. But Vijay seems to have given his nod for some other production house. But Mythri Movie Makers has somehow got the chance this way.

Vijay will be acting only one film after The G.O.A.T. H. Vinoth who earlier directed Ajith’s films, Valimai and Thunivu will helm the directional front for Vijay’s final film. The Actor has already established a political party, TVK and will concentrate completely on politics after this film’s completion. He will also compete for the Tamil Nadu State Assembly Elections scheduled for 2026.

Indian 2 overseas: Weak advance bookings

Indian 2, latest film of Legendary Actor Kamal Haasan and Director Shankar completed all the formalities and getting ready for the release. The release is scheduled for July 12th worldwide this weekend. The film’s pre release event has happened recently and the advance bookings in the overseas market have started. The overseas advance bookings indicate a weak opening for Indian 2.

Overseas market is a big market for Tamil films. Indian 2 which has Shankar branding and Kamal Haasan as the lead actor didn’t generate the necessary buzz. The poor promotional content of the film has become the major reason for this. In North America alone, the film has made an advance bookings of $ 350K till now and $300K from the other countries. Total advance bookings will stand at just $650K .

Usually Tamil biggies open with a minimum of $4 Million and Leo starring Vijay opened with $8 Million last year. But looking at Indian 2 trend the advance booking may not even touch $3 Million. The team must increase the buzz more by releasing promos and a new trailer. The team is busy with interviews but it is not enough. The film also has a third part, Indian 3 in the line up. So Indian 2 must perform well.

He along with the team were present in Hyderabad for the promotional activies of the film. Indian 3 release details announced

Shankar’s directorial Indian 2 is getting ready for the release. The film is an official sequel of Indian and also stars Kamal Haasan playing titular role. The film was originally a single part film but got changed in the middle. Shankar planned one more part in the series, Indian 3. Indian 3 release details are also announced now.

Shankar said that there would be no much gap in the release between Indian 2 and Indian 3. Indian 3 shoot part has been completed mostly so it will arrive 6 months after the release of Indian 2. S.J. Suryah yesterday in the pre-release event of Bharateeyudu 2 appealed to people to make Indian 2 a big success. Shankar is also known to be planning for Game Changer’s release in between these two films. The film stars Ram Charan in the lead role with Shankar making his debut in Telugu. Kalki 2898 AD did an amazing performance at the box office. The film established many records under its name. It has already crossed the 800 crores gross mark worldwide at the box office. It is also looking to breach the 1000 crore mark. Now, Kalki 2898 AD has sold over 1 crore i.e., 10 Million tickets on the ticketing platform, Book My Show.

Undoubtedly, its first weekend performance was the strongest and big. The film managed to sell about half of tickets from the first weekend itself. Now the second weekend’s performance is also good.
