Top OTT content to watch this weekend: July 7th ’24

This weekend has some promising some good content OTT releases. The most awaited Mirzapur season 3 is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film enjoys a cult fan base among the audiences in the country. The first two seasons were big hits on the OTT platform as well. Along with this another film, PT Sir will also be streamin on Amazon Prime Video. This film deals with sexual harrassment on Women. Anikha Surendran played a crucial role in the film.

Actor Sumanth’s Aham Reboot is also streaming on Aha Video. This is directed by Prashanth Sagar Atlluri. Another film, Arabham starring Mohan Bhagath will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Market Mahalakshmi starring Comedian Parvatheesam will stream on Aha Video. Apart from these, Bhaje Vaayu Vegam starring Karthikeya will be streaming on the leading OTT giant, Netflix. This film released recently but didn’t meet the expectations well. It also stars Ishwarya Menon in the female lead role. The film took just nearly a month to release on the OTT.

Indian 2: Shankar’s brand at stake

Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan is directed by Shankar. The film is all set to release on July 12th worldwide this month. There are huge expectations on the film as it serves as the official sequel of yesteryear blockbuster, Indian. The film may backfire it doesn’t live up to the expectations. This also puts Shankar’s brand at stake.

Shankar remained as the top director in the South Indian film Industry. He was also one of the very few directors to earn a Pan India success way before the present trend of Pan India films. Till Enthiran/Robo, his range was at the peak. But his later films didn’t work well with the audience on the content. His big flicks I and 2.0 may have had delivered numbers at the box office but were not liked completely by the audiences. These two films received ordinary talks and many felt that they didn’t live up to the expectations. Some even felt these didn’t have Shankar’s mark like his previous films had.

Now, his current film Indian 2 is relasing after nearly 6 years. This film, as said stands as a sequel to one of his career’s biggest blockbusters. So he needs to deliver on all fronts or else he may encounter a poor response. All these indicate that Shankar’s brand is really at stake. He has also two more films other than this namely, Indian 3 and Game Changer which too may face the affect.

SSMB29: Mahesh Babu’s stellar look

Tollywood Actor, Mahesh Babu is all geared up for his next film. He will work with SS Rajamouli on a big scale project. The Actor is currently working hard to achieve a perfect physique for the film. Now, this Mahesh Babu’s look for his upcoming film has stunned all today. He was spotted with a thick beard and a long hair leaving from an Airport. The look looks spectacular and is storming the internet now. It has already gone viral.

His upcoming film, not yet titled will be an action adventure set in the backdrop of African forests. The launch of the film may happen anytime this year and audiences are eagerly waiting for that ceremony. Rajamouli usually takes time to announce his film. He lets all the details come out through a press meet. Audiences now feel that Mahesh Babu’s birthday will be perfect time for this official launch of the film.

Devara release: Table profits for makers

Devara current film of Tollywood Actor Jr. NTR is enjoying great buzz. It is also made on a high budget with all Pan India feel directed by Koratala Shiva. The Director had tasted a big set back with his previous outing, Acharya. Acharya became one of the biggest disasters in Tollywood’s history and an embarrassment as well. Everyone thought Koratala Shiva had to go through a touch situation but he grabbed opportunity with Jr. NTR for Devara and now Devara is already making table profits for the makers involved.

The budget for the first part of Devara is said to be in the range of 350 crores. Half of the recovery is done from non-theatrical rights itself. The digital rights of all languages are bought by leading OTT Giant, Netflix. Audio rights are with T Series and TV Satellite rights are with Star Maa.

Coming to the theatrical part, business is in the range of 110 crores. Overseas with 27 crores and Rest of India’s business is in the range of 70 crores. With these, producers have entered the table profit zon. If the film works well, then they can get theatrical overflows as profits and the part 2 business will be a jackpot for the makers.

Kalki 2898 AD was released last week in theatres and is doing well at the Box office. The film has collected 750 Cr gross till now and emerges as an All-time top 4 South Indian biggest grosser.

Kalki 2898 AD is an inspirational film from Hindu Ithihasas. The Mahabharat episodes in the movie are hurting Hindu pandits as showing Karna is bigger than Arjuna. The pandits started expressing themselves now. Hindu pandits are questioning that Nag Ashwin did not read Mahabharata completely he seems to be influenced by movies that show Karna as the greatest. But in Mahabharata, it’s clearly said that Karna is the main reason for Kurukshetra to happen. Pandits are saying if they put bhima or arjuna instead of karna it would be right opt. The Hindu pandits feel when you are taking Ithihasas show them correctly as it was a history by adding fiction to it and changing the history is killing our history.

Pandit Radha Mohan Das has expressed the same before, and now Nanduri Srinivas also said the same. Doing films on our lithiasis is a great thought, as this generation will get interested in knowing about our history. But if we portray fictional elements, they will believe that is the only correct version, which is not good.

Nag Ashwin addresses in this interview that Karna is his favourite character in the Mahabharata, and he always felt unfinished to him. A warrior like that needed redemption and needed the last chapter. He also said both Aswaththama and Karna were on the wrong side at that time. In this last chapter, he wants them to fight for the other side, for good. Nag Ashwin’s intentions are fine, but if the film directly projects Karna as a great warrior, then there is no issue. He puts a comparison of Arjuna vs Karna and displays Karna as the greatest, which is hurting Hindus.

Kalki 2898 AD Collections: A double jump for the Prabhas starrer

Kalki 2898 AD, the recent Prabhas Starrer has witnessed a big double jump on its tenth day. The second weekend will be started with Saturday as Friday marks the tenth day of the film’s release. The film is said to have collected a 9 crore nett on the Friday in Hindi market and this is a 100% jump. As much as 18 crore is expected on Saturday. The same trend goes with Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka as well where the jump would 100%.

Telugu States have witnessed a same trend and the Saturday collections are double of Friday collections. Saturday performance is also big in the overseas market. Kalki 2898 AD has already grossed 700 crores worldwide and is racing towards the 800 crore mark. With Sunday, the gross may even touch this mark as per the trade analysts. The film needs to repeat the same momentum for the third weekend to acheive the coveted 1000 crore milestone.

Kalki 2898 AD has already become Prabhas’ solo highest grosser beating Salaar directed by Prashant Neel. Salaar had collected a lifetime of over 600 crores worldwide and now Kalki 2898 AD stands as Prabhas’ highest grosser without Rajamouli’s brand. This is surely a big achievement for him from Tollywood.

Bimbisara prequel first look poster disappoints

Bimbisara starring Kalyan Ram became a big blockbuster. The film also revived Kalyan Ram’s troubled career after many flops. The film dealt with mythology and periodical aspects in the film and attracted the audience well. Now, Bimbisara Prequel film has been announced on the occasion of Kalyan Ram’s birthday but it looks disappointing.

The film is tentatively titled #NKR22 serves as the prequel to Bimbisara. The film will be produced by Kalyan Ram as well under his NTR Arts banner. But an interesting news is Vassishta who served as the director of Bimbisara will not return to helm the direction of this prequel. Another director, Anil Paduri will direct the film and this too has disappointed the audience.

The new director needs to show promising effort to retain the glory of Bimbisara’s success. The expectations for the film will also be sky high and they need to match this well with the content and promotional activity as well. Let’s see how the film unfolds in the future. On the other hand, Kalyan Ram’s current film, #NKR21 first look too got released. Kalyan Ram was seen sitting on the chair with fire on his hand. This film is directed by Pradeep Chilukuri.

Hanuman producers next big bet

Tollywood film, Hanuman produced by Primeshow Entertainments did wonders at the box office this Sankranthi. The film had managed to gross close to 300 crores worldwide also becoming a pan India sensation. They actually took a big risk by investing huge amount for the film as it starred not-so popular Teja Sajja in the lead role. But all their risk attempts had paid off. Now Hanuman’s producers are betting big on their next film as well.

Primeshow Entertainments are producing Sai Dharam Tej’s next film directed by Rohith KP. The film is tentatively titled #SDT18 and will also be a big budgeted periodic film. This will be made on the lines of Hanuman as well and will release as a Pan Indian film. The budget now is being planned at 100 crores. The producers are also planning for the sequel of Hanuman already titled Jai Hanuman. This too will be made on a big level and release as a Pan India film. It shows how one film has really changed the life of these producers.

They are also producing Darling starring Priyadarshi and Nabha Natesh which is slated for release this July 16th. The trailer of the film will also release on July 7th.

Suriya created a very big fan base in the Telugu states. A few years ago, he was the biggest other language star in the Telugu states after Rajinikanth. His films opens very big in telugu states. Recently Surya S/O krishnan re-release does wonders at Box office.

But with his continued failures, his films did not do well in telugu states either, and it impacts him very hugely. The film’s are struggled to get good business and numbers. But finally, he is back on top with Kanguva.

All Kollwyood stars from Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, Vijay’s GOAT, Rajnikanth’s Vettaiyan, Vikram’s Thangalaan, Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi, and Dhanush’s Raayan are set for release in this second half.  But the Telugu trade is showing big interest in Kanguva, and it’s expected to be the biggest business film in these, with Suriya’s brand, the genre, and budget everything working positively. And on October 10th, no big films are releasing in Telugu, which also added advantage.

Kanguva is expected to take a very good opening as promotional content created a good buzz. Kanguva is releasing in 3D version as well in all languages. As it was a multipart film, Kanguva must be a big success in all languages.

No more Game Changer burden for Ram Charan

Today marks the final day of the shoot for Ram Charan‘s portions in Game Changer. The film is directed by Maverick Director, Shankar who is also making his debut in Telugu after years. This film being a regular commercial flick took so much of time than expected for the shoot itself surprisingly. From today, there will finally be no more Game Changer burden for Ram Charan. He will also concentrate on his future films.

Ram Charan after the phenomenal success of RRR which released in 2022 promised to release a film every year. He joined hands with Shankar for Game Changer in 2021 itself and everyone felt the film would release in a year. But it took longer time than expected as Shankar had one more film to work on i.e., Indian 2. The first schedule of Game Changer started in September 2021 and it took almost three years for the film to finish mostly.

There is a 10 day shoot left which will be shot on important cast of the film. Game Changer’s post production will start after this. Ram Charan on the other hand will work completely on Buchi Babu’s film which was already launched this year.
