Suriya film on hold due to OTT crash

The upcoming film of Suriya and Sudha Kongara is on hold due to the OTT Crash. The duo enjoyed great success with their previous collaboration of Soorarai Pottru/Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Raa. The film received rave reviews for its direction and performance of Suriya. Suriya even went on to receive a National Award for his performance in the film. The lead actress, Aparna Balamurali also received the National Award for her performance in the film. So fans were delighted to see the duo collaborating again for a film.

Recently OTT platforms aren’t offering good amounts for films like before. Films that generate big hype are only able to fetch good offers from the OTT platforms. Many films are getting shelved in the beginning stage itself for the same reason. And now it seems Suriya-Sudha Kongara’s film too might end up having the same fate. This film was announced with a big budget. The team expected to get a big amount of deal from the OTT which didn’t happen.

So the team is thinking to rework on the budget of the film and also the script. The film will not hit the sets soon and is currently on hold. Let’s hope for some good news about the film.

Om Bheem Bush – Average start at Box-office

Om Bheem Bush starring Sree Vishnu, Priyadarshi, and Rahul Ramakrishna released yesterday. The film received okayish reviews terming the film as a time pass fun ride film. But somehow the promotional content failed to generate buzz to appeal to all sections of audiences. This resulted in the film taking an average state at the box office.

The film opened to decent word of mouth everywhere. The opening in AP is bad but decent in Nizam. The overseas talk is also good. Om Bheem Bush has collected a share of 1.7 crores on its opening day. The film should push hard to collect more than the doubt digit share to break even. The positive sign is its collections are increasing show by show. There is also an advantage of a holiday on Monday on the occasion of Holi. Anyway, the film has to witness a big jump today to sustain.

Advance bookings for today’s shows are better than yesterday. The film is expected to have a good weekend. But the task of touching the break-even mark might be a bit hard. Om Bheem Bush is about 3 friends who refer to themselves as scientists. They decide to earn money in Bhairavapuram village using their tricks and refer to themselves as people who can solve any problem of the villagers and what follows is the story.

Manjummel Boys: Industry hit in overseas

Recently released Malayalam film, Manjummel Boys has hit a jackpot. The film garnered positive reviews after the film’s release. It went on to gross 100 crores gross worldwide. The film broke the records of films, Lucifer and 2018 to become the industry hit officially there. 2018 had the status of Industry hit with 178 crores gross worldwide.

Manjummel Boys became the first Malayalam film to gross 200 crores worldwide. It also broke the overseas gross held by 2018. It has grossed $8.3 Million compared to 2018’s $8.26 Million Mark. With this, it officially became an industry hit in the overseas market as well.

The total collections now stand at close to 205 crores gross worldwide. But in the domestic market, 2018 still holds the record with 89 crores gross whereas Manjummel Boys is at 64 crores. Manjummel Boys’ phenomenal performance in Tamil Nadu contributed to a higher gross collection than 2018. Manjummel Boys is a story about a group of friends who end up getting in trouble when one of their friends falls into a deep cave. The film deals with the extradition of the missing friend and how they strive to bring him out. The film might even have a dubbed release in Telugu soon considering its phenomenal performance.

Salaar: Climax as Interval in Single-Part film

Malayalam Actor, Prithviraj Sukumaran revealed an interesting aspect about Salaar. He was speaking about the film in an interview for his upcoming Malayalam film, The Goat Life. He said that the first part of Salaar is actually a prelude to the actual story of the film. He said the director Prashant Neel when narrated about the film, told both parts as a single film. The actor said that the climax portion of the Salaar Part 1 was actually the Interval of the whole story.

Pruthviraj also went on to say that he himself requested Prashant Neel to make Salaar into two parts. He opined that the film has so much density and wanted a big span of length. The actor felt that even people feel the same about the film telling him personally that the film has so much information inside it. He also says that he agreed with their version and opinion.

On the work front, Prashant Neel is working on the much-awaited sequel of Salaar: Shouryanga Parvam. The film will have Prabhas’ second look and also the important cast. It is also being made with a lavishing budget and will be released across the country on a large scale. Prabhas is simultaneously working for Raja Saab under the direction of Maruthi.

Rarely do we see a film production house producing a serial on Television. But the leading Tollywood production house, Mythri Movie Makers is officially a part of a serial on Zee Telugu. The serial is titled, Maa Annayya. The official poster of the serial has been released officially on Zee Telugu’s X account.

The poster shows four ladies belonging to different ages. Tollywood Actress Rashi stars as the mother of these people. And it can be understood that it’s a brother and sister relationship drama. Well, no one knows the exact reason behind Mythri Movie Makers venturing into TV Production. But we have to wait and see about the team’s reply regarding this.

On the work front, Mythri Movie Makers is presently working for big-budget films, Pushpa, Ustaad Bhagat Singh. They are also venturing into the Malayalam language with a film with Tovino Thomas which was launched recently. They are also collaborating with Vriddhi Cinemas for another big-budget film of Ram Charan, RC16. The opening ceremony of the film took place recently in a grand manner. The film will be made as a Pan-India biggie with many Indian stars and the music is composed by Oscar Award-winning composer, A.R. Rahman.

Thandel shooting still creates buzz

Thandel starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi is creating good buzz. The film is directed by Chandoo Mondeti and produced by Bunny Vas under the Geetha Arts banner. It will be made as a Pan-India film with a big budget. The film already has Naga Chaitanya doing a rusty look for the first time.

Thandel is a love story based on a fisherman’s life. Naga Chaitanya plays the role of a fisherman. Devi Sri Prasad was also brought on board for the film to score the music. The shooting of the film is happening at a rapid pace. The team is planning to release the film this year in October. The lead cast was spotted shooting for various scenes recently and it generated a big buzz for the film.

Audiences too feel this film will give the much-needed relief for Naga Chaitanya. The actor has been waiting for a big hit. Tillu Square censor report and pre business details

Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Anupama Parameswaran starrer Tillu Square is all set to release this month’s end. The film has faced several delays and cast and crew changes during its production phase. DJ Tillu, the first installment in this series was released in 2022 and went on to become a big hit. The makers are keen on repeating the success and are leaving no stone unturned in cashing in on the buzz.

The movie is releasing in theaters next weekend. After a dry spell in Tollywood after the Sankranti releases, Tillu Square is the most awaited film in theatres. The movie completed its censor formalities and has been given a U/A certificate. The makers have locked a very crispy runtime which will surely benefit if the film gets off to a good start.

Coming to business, the movie’s Andhra business ratio is 12 Cr and Ceeded is more than 3 Cr. Overall, the worldwide business is around 32 Cr. The digital rights have been bought by Netflix for more than 30 Cr. The film is directed by Mallik Ram while Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas have backed the project. Premalu Telugu version 2 weeks worldwide collections

Recently released Premalu became a box office sensation. The Malayalam film went on to cross more than 100 crores gross worldwide. The film slowly gathered momentum and became a sleeper hit. Premalu’s dubbed version was also released in Telugu thanks to its success in Malayalam. Premalu’s Telugu version worldwide collection details are given below.

The film initially had a competition with both Telugu releases, Bhima and Gaami but withstood the competition. Premalu was distributed by SS Karthikeya, son of renowned Telugu Director, S.S. Rajamouli. The film as said started slow but picked up its momentum day by day. It managed to collect 10.5 crores from the Telugu States. In the U.S. the Telugu version has collected around 2.3 crores gross. The rest of India and the World is around 1 crore more. So, the total Telugu Version has collected nearly 13.8 crores gross worldwide.

The film is also expected to continue its strong numbers this weekend. Overall worldwide gross is right now around 125 crores which is very very big for a small budgeted film with no big star cast included. The film is also planned to be released in the Tamil version by the Red Giant films by Udayanidhi Stalin.

Producer-OTT Deals: Exhibitor losses

A few years ago, films used to have a good run in the theatres. All successful films would run for a minimum of 50 days and may even surpass that mark. And thereafter, films would be telecasted on the TVs. But in recent times, especially after the arrival of many OTT platforms, film runs have been restricted to a mere 2 weekends or 1 weekend itself. With this Exhibitor losses have become a big issue.

OTT platforms are not offering big amounts for all films fearing losses. For this reason, producers are closing the deal with these OTT platforms for early streaming. Every film is getting streamed in just 4 weeks which is just a month’s time. Guntur Kaaram and Salaar too streamed in the same way. And medium-budget films stream in less than 3 weeks also. Makers are streaming the films that get negative talk to cover up the losses through OTT streaming. Theatre owners are suffering because of this.

The theatre owners are failing to even recover rents on the weekdays. People too are neglecting to watch the films in the theatres as they are getting streamed so early after the release as said above. Audiences are watching only if the film gets a unanimous positive talk. In Hindi, National plexes made an agreement with OTT platforms that they should stream the films only after 8 weeks. This is allowing the Bollywood films to have a good run. But this is lacking here in the South. This should be dealt with properly.

Jawan Sequel in the works

Jawan is the biggest blockbuster for Shahrukh Khan and Bollywood as well. This action entertainer starring Nayanthara, Priyamani, and Vijay Sethupathi among others collected a whopping Rs 1150 Cr gross worldwide. Ever since Jawan was released there have been several reports about a sequel and Atlee has also talked about Jawan sequel plans and collaboration with Shahrukh Khan.

Atlee in a recent interaction with media said that he will collaborate with Shahrukh Khan. “When how and for which film is something in Shahrukh Sir’s hands but we will work together once again,” he said. When asked about Jawan 2 possibilities, Atlee said, ” I have always surprised everyone with my projects and I’ll do that yet again.”

Atlee’s next project is with Allu Arjun and an announcement is likely to come on Allu Arjun’s birthday. After this, he is likely to collaborate with Shahrukh Khan again. Whether it is Jawan sequel or a fresh project, only Atlee knows.

Shahrukh Khan had a resounding 2023 which started with blockbuster Pathaan. This was followed with Jawan which went on to become a bigger Bollywood blockbuster for the Bollywood superstar. 

Jawan has not only become Shahrukh Khan’s highest-grosser but also the top 2023 grosser in Indian cinema. Right from its opening day to its full run, Jawan shattered one record after another in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. The other language versions set a new benchmark for Bollywood movies.
