At the time of release, no one expected Kantara Chapter 1 to challenge Chhaava’s full-run collections or become 2025’s biggest grosser. Everyone predicted the film would do around ₹600 Cr in its full run, and at best, could go up to ₹700 Cr.

Since Chhaava had grossed ₹800 Cr, most believed it would remain the year’s biggest hit.Surprisingly, Kantara Chapter 1 is performing beyond everyone’s expectations. In just two weeks, the film has collected close to ₹670 Cr gross, while Chhaava collected around ₹520 Cr in the same period — giving Kantara Chapter 1 a lead of about ₹150 Cr.
From the third week to the end of its run, Chhaava added around ₹280 Cr gross, and even if Kantara Chapter 1 collects half of that, it will surpass Chhaava to become this year’s biggest grosser.The advantage for Kantara Chapter 1 is that Diwali falls in its third week, which can boost collections.
However, the major concern is the big lineup of Diwali releases. In Telugu, four films — Dude, KRamp, Mithra Mandali, and Telusu Kada — are releasing. In Tamil, three films — Bison, Dude, and Diesel — are set to release, while in Hindi, the highly anticipated Thamma is hitting screens. With major releases across all languages, Kantara Chapter 1 may not be able to retain a large screen count.
Still, there’s a strong possibility that Kantara Chapter 1 will surpass Chhaava’s collections to become the year’s highest grosser, as it continues to maintain a strong lead after two weeks with solid numbers across all languages. The battle for 2025’s biggest grosser is truly on with Kantara Chapter 1 vs Chhaava.
