Kantara Chapter 1 vs Chhaava : The Battle Is On

0

At the time of release, no one expected Kantara Chapter 1 to challenge Chhaava’s full-run collections or become 2025’s biggest grosser. Everyone predicted the film would do around ₹600 Cr in its full run, and at best, could go up to ₹700 Cr.

Kantara Chapter 1 vs Chhaava

Since Chhaava had grossed ₹800 Cr, most believed it would remain the year’s biggest hit.Surprisingly, Kantara Chapter 1 is performing beyond everyone’s expectations. In just two weeks, the film has collected close to ₹670 Cr gross, while Chhaava collected around ₹520 Cr in the same period — giving Kantara Chapter 1 a lead of about ₹150 Cr.

From the third week to the end of its run, Chhaava added around ₹280 Cr gross, and even if Kantara Chapter 1 collects half of that, it will surpass Chhaava to become this year’s biggest grosser. The advantage for Kantara Chapter 1 is that Diwali falls in its third week, which can boost collections.

However, the major concern is the big lineup of Diwali releases. In Telugu, four films — Dude, KRamp, Mithra Mandali, and Telusu Kada — are releasing. In Tamil, three films — Bison, Dude, and Diesel — are set to release, while in Hindi, the highly anticipated Thamma is hitting screens. With major releases across all languages, Kantara Chapter 1 may not be able to retain a large screen count.

Still, there’s a strong possibility that Kantara Chapter 1 will surpass Chhaava’s collections to become the year’s highest grosser, as it continues to maintain a strong lead after two weeks with solid numbers across all languages. The battle for 2025’s biggest grosser is truly on with Kantara Chapter 1 vs Chhaava.

Kantara Chapter 1 Two Weeks Box Office Collections

0

Kantara Chapter 1 had a fantastic second week at the box office. The film collected around ₹220 Cr gross in its second week, taking the total gross to approximately ₹668 Cr.

In Karnataka, the film collected ₹185 Cr gross, becoming the all-time No.1 and is set to achieve the first-ever ₹200 Cr mark. In the Telugu states, the collections stand at ₹93 Cr gross and are set to cross the ₹100 Cr mark soon. In Tamil Nadu, it collected ₹54 Cr, in Kerala ₹46 Cr, and in North India ₹187 Cr — taking the total India gross to ₹565 Cr.

In overseas markets, the film collected around ₹103 Cr gross, taking the worldwide total to ₹668 Cr. The film is all set to cross the ₹700 Cr gross mark this weekend. With the advantage of the Diwali festival in its third week, the film is expected to gross over ₹100 Cr in the third week.

KGF 2 Failed, But Kantara Chapter 1 Shatters Records in Karnataka

0

Kantara is so far the biggest grosser in Karnataka, even KGF 2 failed to beat it. KGF 2 had strong support from other languages in Karnataka, whereas the Kantara series had relatively lower numbers from non-Kannada versions. Still, within Karnataka, with the massive dominance of the Kannada language, the Kantara series rules over the KGF series.

The Kantara franchise film, Kantara Chapter 1, itself broke records by collecting more than ₹185 crore gross in just two weeks, becoming the all-time highest grosser in Karnataka.

The film is all set to achieve the first-ever ₹200 crore mark in Karnataka and might even aim for the ₹250 crore benchmark. For audiences from other languages, KGF remains the bigger brand, but for Kannada audiences, Kantara is their proudest film. They owned Kantara far more than KGF 2. Even in overseas markets, Kantara Chapter 1 performed much better than KGF 2

Mythri Bags Big Profits from Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude

0

Mythri gave an advance to Pradeep Ranganathan immediately after Love Today’s release. After Dragon, Pradeep Ranganathan became an even bigger star. However, he had already committed to doing a film for Mythri at an earlier agreed remuneration.

Pradeep went ahead with a reasonable remuneration. It was Sai Abhayankar’s first major project and directed by debutant Keerthiswaran. Made on a modest budget of around ₹35 crore, the film had a regular love story backdrop and was completed as per the planned schedule.

The film’s digital rights were bagged by Netflix for ₹25 crore. With audio and satellite rights included, the budget was completely recovered through non-theatrical deals alone. The makers are releasing the film on their own in all territories with recoverable advances. Both Love Today and Dragon collected over ₹100 crore gross, and the team is confident that Dude will be the biggest grosser in Pradeep Ranganathan’s career.

All theatrical collections will be direct profits for the producers. In any case, the movie is expected to easily earn over ₹50 crore share, and with positive word of mouth, it could even go up to ₹75 crore—bringing massive returns for Mythri Movies.

No Rajinikanth vs NTR Clash in 2026

0

NTR’s War 2 and Rajinikanth’s Coolie clashed during the Independence weekend this year. Coolie emerged as an average grosser, while War 2 turned out to be a disaster. In comparison, Coolie became the clear winner in this box office race.

A major clash was expected again in 2026, as NTR–Prashanth Neel’s Dragon was announced for a June 25, 2026 release, while Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 was also planned for the same period, as officially confirmed by Rajinikanth himself.

However, in recent days, there has been buzz that Dragon might be postponed to late 2026 or early 2027 due to shooting delays. Now, the producers — Mythri Movie Makers — have clarified during Dude movie promotions that Dragon is aiming for an end-of-2026 release, assuring that it will definitely arrive within 2026. With this update, there will be no Rajinikanth vs NTR clash in 2026.

The postponement of Dragon is a big advantage for Jailer 2, as it can now target a massive solo release across all languages, with no other major film scheduled during that period.
