Revealed: Updates on Ram Charan and Shankar’s #RC15

Ram Charan’s collaboration with aced director Shankar has got both the fans as well as industry insiders eagerly waiting. Producer Dil Raju, who will be bankrolling this ambitious project had earlier stated that the film will go on floors in July. However, the pandemic second wave and multiple legal hassles for Shankar meant further delay on #RC15.

According to the latest reports, the film’s pre-production works have already started. Moreover, this project is expected to go on floors in September now. Meanwhile, in the next couple of months time, Ram Charan will look to finish Acharya and RRR and then move on to Shankar film.

 Multiple plotlines and theories have been floated about the movie. Some say that the Mega Power Star will be playing the role of a young and dynamic IAS officer fighting corruption. There is another set that believes that RC15 is going to be a re-adaptation of Shankar’s Mudhavalan (Oke Okkaddu).

We might have to wait for official word on the exact theme of Ram Charan & Shankar’s film. However, it is true that this film is going to be on an anti-corruption theme. Ram Charan’s character is going to play an anti-corruption crusader in this social drama. This film is going to be unlike any of the other Shankar films. Reportedly, heavy usage of VFX and costly sets that are a part of Shankar’s films will be missing in #RC15.

Major doing good pre-release business

Adivi Sesh’s Major is one of the many movies that got delayed due to the pandemic. There were earlier rumours as well that the film will now release on OTT due to multiple delays and lack of clarity over when theatres would open completely. However, the makers recently took to social media and announced that the movie will only release in theatres.

According to latest reports, the movie is doing a great pre-release business. As expected, the overseas rights of this biographical action thriller have been sold for a fancy price. Major is also getting great deals for its satellite rights and digital rights. It is being speculated that the pre-release business of the movie will be on par with the tier-2 heroes.

The movie will release once better conditions prevail across the country. Sashi Kiran Tikka is directing this multi-lingual film. Sony Pictures Releasing International, G Mahesh Babu Entertainment, and A+S Movies are producing the film. The movie is shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi.

Major will take us through the journey of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and his inspiration behind serving the nation. Prakash Raj and Revathy play his parents and the teaser of the movie has impressed one and all for its technical richness.

Will Suresh Babu overturn his decision?

The uncertainty over theatres opening and the current pandemic situation has led to many producers moving towards OTT. Out of these, the biggest name is Suresh Babu who has decided to release 3 of his upcoming big-ticket films on digital mediums. Virata Parvam, Narappa and Drushyam 2 are the three prominent films releasing on OTT soon.

However, a recent appeal by the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce (TSFCC) has made the situation rather interesting. In the view of a number of producers moving towards OTTs, the TSFCC has issued a note requesting the producers to wait. The statement put out has requested the producers to wait till October 2021 and if the situation still doesn’t improve then opt for OTT.

Now it needs to be seen how Suresh Babu being one of the biggest names in Tollywood reacts to this request. Is he going to stall the deal with OTT for the three films or is he going to go ahead with the release is something that needs to be seen.

The note has also requested the AP government to relook into the issue of ticket rates across the state and reconsider its G.O earlier issued.

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata will be resuming its shoot soon after a break. This Parasuram Petla directorial has got not just Mahesh’s fans but entire industry eager for updates and inside scoops. Sarkaru Vaari Paata will have SS Thaman composing music.

Thaman has earlier composed for Mahesh Babu for Dookudu, Aagadu and Businessman. Hence the expectations are high on this collaboration as well. In a recent Club House session, Thaman revealed some interesting details about Sarkaru Vaari Paata’s progress.

He revealed that he has completed the compositions of 3 songs and only two songs are in balance now. Bothe these songs will be mass numbers. Thaman, who will also be composing music for SSMB28 added that music sittings for the film are yet to begin and that he is really excited to collaborate with Mahesh and Trivikram yet again.

Meanwhile some crucial action scenes have been planned on Mahesh for this upcoming schedule. The makers are leaving no expense for the same. Keerthy Suresh will also be a part of this schedule where some scenes will be shot on her. Mythri Movie Makers are bankrolling Sarkaru Vaari Paata, which is due for release on Sankranti 2022.

2021 Tollywood: A look at the first half releases of the year

The first half of 2021 Tollywood has been quite an eventful year for movie lovers. This happening despite the fact that theatres were shut for months is quite an impressive feat. A number of movies that had the fortune of releasing in theatres managed to be good hits. People missed the theatres and flocked to them at every chance they received. While the months of January to the first half of April were a great time for movies. The peak summer season i.e mid-April to June where a number of Tollywood biggies release every year turned out to be a dull one due to the Covid second wave. Let’s take a look at some of the memorable movies of the year and their impact on 2021 Tollywood.

January – Krack & Red

2021 Tollywood got off to an amazing start with Mass Maharaja’s Krack. The movie was a perfect comeback for both Tollywood as well as Ravi Teja. The action thriller was well received across all the centres and did a fabulous job in the long run. Krack which opened up with packed houses continued its dream run in Telugu states and emerged is now Ravi Teja’s career-best film. 

Despite the lack of strong buzz, Ram’s Red also performed well at the box office and surprised all. A remake of Tamil film Thadam, Red performed well at the box office and collected a WW share of Rs 18.85 crores and emerged as the second hit of January.

February – Zombie Reddy, Uppena and Naandhi

February continued to be a good month for the film industry and continued the momentum of 2021 Tollywood. Prashanth Verma’s experimental zombie film Zombie Reddy entertained the viewers and emerged as the sleeper hit of the first half. Made on a shoestring budget, the movie collected a WW share of Rs 5.41 crores and marked a successful debut for Teja Sajja.

Uppena was undoubtedly the biggest surprise success of the year. While the movie was expected to do decently owing to great music and Sukumar’s involvement in production, nobody expected it to be the blockbuster it turned out to be. The movie was a sensational blockbuster and set a record of the highest collection of debut hero in Tollywood. It also became the first debutant movie to collect 50 crores at the box office. The movie had a return of investment of 200% making it the biggest hit of the year.

Naandhi was one more surprise hit of the year. Allari Naresh scored a successful film after almost 8 years with Naandhi. The movie started slow on its opening day and later with super strong word of mouth picked up very well with packed houses in many centers. The movie recovered well from every centre and also won Allari Naresh great critical acclaim. Naandhi will now be remade in Bollywood as well with Ajay Devgn buying the remake rights.

March- Jathi Ratnalu

Not even the makers of Jathi Ratnalu would have expected the movie to achieve the kind of success it did. The movie emerged as another blockbuster for 2021 Tollywood and recorded massive numbers in Telugu states as well as overseas. Jathi Ratnalu collected a world wide share of Rs 38crs and recovered its budget within no time. The film had an amazing start as well. Despite competition from other releases, the film had an excellent four-day weekend and it continued the same dominance on weekdays too.

The victory run of 2021 Tollywood stopped

2021 Tollywood would have continued its amazing run had the Covid second wave not played spoilsport. Pawan Kalyan’s much awaited Vakeel Saab released in April and had massive openings but with cases on rise and AP government’s orders stopped Vakeel Saab from being a bigger hit. The movie ended up as an above average fare at the box office. As a result of this Vakeel Saab had to be released on OTT on just 20th day of its release.

Similarly, a number of big ticket films like Acharya, Love Story, Khiladi, Akhanda etc. were supposed to release in the first half and pushed their release. The industry is now slowly getting back to its feet and with above mentioned movies along with RRR, Pushpa, Radhe Shyam set to hit the screens later this year, we sure are in for a great second half.

Biopics have become the flavour of the season. Not just in Bollywood, but the trend has become quite famous in Tollywood as well. Over the last 2-3 years we have seen biopics on actress Mahanati Savitri and former AP CMs NTR and YSR along with others.

Now, Tollywood is getting ready for another biopic on a high-profile person. This person is none other than AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy. Pratik Gandhi who shot to fame with last year’s web series Scam 1992 will play the role of Jaganmohan Reddy. Directed by Hansal Mehta, this web series incidentally was also a biopic. Scam 1992 followed the life and times of stockbroker Harshad Mehta.

Meanwhile the biopic of AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy will be directed by Mahi V Raghav who had also directed the biopic of YS Rajasekhar Reddy. The YSR biopic titled ‘Yatra’ featured Malayalam Megastar Mammootty in the lead role.

Pre-production works will commence as soon as the pandemic settle down. Meanwhile, during an earlier interview, Mahi Raghav had said that he will also make a sequel to ‘Yatra’. So it would be interesting to see Jagan’s biopic is the sequel or if it’s an altogether new project.

Massive deals for Balakrishna and Pawan Kalyan films

The dubbing rights of Tollywood big-ticket films are much in demand across the country. Tollywood films are no longer limited to just Telugu states and are expanding their reach across the country. This is the reason the Hindi dubbing rights for films of big stars are fetching astronomical amounts. The latest to join the league of massive dubbing rights league are Balakrishna and Pawan Kalyan films.

Balakrishna’s Akhanda Hindi dubbing rights have been sold for Rs 21 crores. Similarly, Pawan Kalyan’s much-awaited Ayyappanum Koshiyum remake Hindi dubbing rights have fetched the makers a whopping Rs 22 crores.

Balakrishna and Pawan Kalyan’s Akhanda and Ayyappanum Koshiyum respectively are two of the most awaited movies in Tollywood and the pre-release buzz of both these action thrillers have generated further hype around them.

Currently, the Akhanda team is looking for a climax shoot location and one song is pending along with a few patchworks. Akhanda will also star Pragya Jaiswal in the lead role. Dwaraka Entertainments banner will be bankrolling this fantasy action drama.

The Ayyappanum Koshiyum remake is still in its early stages with pandemic halting the shoot. Rana Daggubati will co-star along with Pawan Kalyan in this action drama.

Bellamkonda Srinivas working hard to replicate Prabhas

It is a known fact the Bellamkonda Srinivas will be starring in the 2005 Telugu superhit Chatrapathi’s Bollywood remake. The action thriller will be directed by VV Vinayak who incidentally also directed the actor’s Tollywood debut ‘Alludu Seenu’. Presently, Disha Patani, Shraddha Kapoor, and Pooja Hegde are in consideration for the lead role opposite Srinivas.

Meanwhile, Bellamkonda Srinivas is reportedly spending hours everyday training to fit the role that Prabhas played in the original. The lockdown has especially helped the actor spend much longer times in the gym to achieve the required physique. Apart from this, Bellamkonda Srinivas is also brushing up his Hindi skills as he wants to dub for the film by himself. He has appointed famous Hindi coach, Imtiaz to train him in the nuances of the language.

The movie will be made in Hindi and will release in Telugu and Tamil with Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios bankrolling the ambitious project. The shoot of the film will begin in the second week of July

Nithiin’s Range De TRP ratings

Rang De starring Nithiin and Keerthy Suresh released amidst great expectations but failed to impress the audience and was declared a box-office failure. This movie was expected to perform well considering the fresh pairing of Nithiin and Keerthy Suresh and lack of much competition from others. Adding to it, Venky Atluri’s track record with the rom-com genre also created a huge buzz for the movie.

The romantic comedy-drama released on 26th March had pretty lacklustre openings and recently released digitally on Zee 5. Rang De also made its world television premiere on June 20th and garnered decent TV ratings of 7.22.

The movie was bankrolled under Sithara Entertainments banner and Devi Sri Prasad composed music for this film. Nithin and Keerthy Suresh play the roles of Arjun and Anupama who are childhood friends. Nithiin’s RangDe also had an impressive support cast of Vennela Kishore, Abhinav Gomatam, Subhash, and Naresh.

Nithiin is currently gearing up for the release of his next film Maestro which will directly stream on OTTs. Post Maestro, he will be seen in Powerpeta, and untitled movies with Vakkantham Vamsi and SR Sekhar.
