Case against Dulquer Salman for Kurup

0

Dulquer Salman’s Kurup released grandly on Friday and has been attracting large crowds to the theatres. The movie is being seen as a revival of the Mollywood market post the pandemic. While the film is still running in theatres, the movie and Dulquer Salman have got into legal trouble.

According to the reports, a PIL has been filed in the High Court claiming the movie threatens the privacy of Sukumara Kurup, who is a criminal on whom the story is based. According to the PIL, the High Court has not issued a stay on the film. But they have informed the center, state government, Interpol, and the producers about the same.

Srinath Rajendran has directed this crime drama and it starts Shobhita Dhulipala and Manoj Bajpayee in key roles. The film is based on life and journey of Kerala’s most famous fugitive criminal Sukumara Kurup.

Dulquer Salman is essaying the lead role of a conman who murdered another man in 1984 to fake his own death and claim the money of insurance of Rs 8,00,000.

Why different rules for Nani?

0

Natural Star Nani has been going through a rough time when it comes to theatrical releases. His last two films ‘V’ and ‘Tuck Jagadish’ both released on Amazon Prime Video much to his disappointment. These OTT releases, however, made Nani a soft target of a number of distributors and exhibitors. The trade group blamed him and attacked him via press conferences and public statements.

A lot of hue and cry was made during Tuck Jagadish OTT release with many exhibitors and distributors seeking a ban on Nani.

Compare this to the treatment being meted out to other biggies. SureshBabu & Venkatesh’s own film, Drushyam2 is going for OTT release. Even their last film Narappa also went for a direct OTT release. Despite this, no one batted an eyelid or made any opposing statements.

No one blamed Suresh Babu or Venkatesh because they are big names in the industry. A movie’s release whether on OTT or theatres is completely a producer’s call. It was really unfortunate at the dual treatment served in Nani’s case. It’s time the entire trade fraternity stops giving lectures.

Shocking: All Tollywood biggies to be deficit release?

0

Covid has made a total mockery of the plans made by industries across the world. Tollywood too is not unaffected by this and the business adjustments of a number of Tollywood biggies are proof of that.

Take the case of movies such as Akhanda, Pushpa and Shyam Singha Roy. All these films are some of the most ambitious and career-highest budget movies of their respective heroes. However, Covid and the scenario that preceded it has left a massive impact on these films.

The theatrical business of these Tollywood biggies is now reduced by at least 30%. And a trade deficit seems to be the most likely scenario if this situation continues.

Not just in AP, the situation seems to be the same in Nizam as well. Distributors are not ready to take risks and are quite wary as recent films did not generate much revenue.

Rajamouli’s promotional plan for RRR is talk of the town

0

Rajamouli has a grand vision not just about his movies but also the way he promotes them. The ace director always has an ace rolled up the sleeve that helps him the publicity that he desires. One of the biggest complaints of the Tollywood fans was that the RRR wasn’t being promoted and publicised as it should. A movie of RRR’s scale must be doing heavy promotions by now. Rajamouli’s promotional plan, however, is now on target and that is being noticed by all now.

Rajamouli meanwhile is completely assured of his product and just with one RRR Mass Anthem, he has cleared all the negativity or doubts about it. The song which was released in 5 languages is being loved all over and has made people sit up and take notice.

The Hindi version in particular is a huge hit and has been trending on social media for the last two days. The Bollywood market is critical for the movie and Rajamouli has ensured that the movie’s hype builds up.

Now SSR is getting ready for the third single and if the inside reports are anything to go by, this will also be a musical feast. In the coming days we will be seeing more of such masterstrokes from Rajamouli’s promotional plan.

Pushpaka Vimanam review: Dry execution of an interesting plot

0

Movie: Pushpaka Vimanam
Rating: 2.25/5
Cast: Anand Deverakonda, Geetha Saini, Sunil, Saanve Meghana
Director: Damodar
Produced By: Govardhan Rao Deverakonda, Pradeep Errabelli, Vijay Mattapalli
Release Date: 12th November

Anand Deverakonda’s Pushpaka Vimanam right from its title launch and subsequent teaser and trailer release has evoked curiosity. The concept of wife eloping after the wedding and the investigation that follows has been presented in a comic manner with a bunch of solid support cast. Does the movie have enough to sustain the curiosity? Let’s find out

Story: Sundar (Anand) a young government school teacher has got married recently and life goes on normally. The trouble breaks in when he finds out that his wife Meenakshi (Geeth Saini) has eloped. He tries his best to hide this fact from his neighbours and colleagues with the fear of becoming a laughing stock. The mystery behind this sudden disappearance and its unraveling is what follows next with a series of investigations and comic situations.

Performance: Anand Deverakonda as Sundar looks the part and is convincing. His performance as a troubled and confused husband searching for a wife is quite believable. Geeth Saini makes a decent mark but has nothing much to do here. Saanve Meghana has got more screen time and scenes to showcase her emotions and she does the best job of the lot. Harsha Vardhan as the nosy neighbor gets a chunky role and is just adequate while Sunil as a police officer is wasted in the role. The other support cast members are just to fill the scenes and barring Naresh none leave a mark. On the technical part, the visuals by Hestin Jose Joseph look great and capture the tone of the film well. Mark K Robin’s BGM is another impressive aspect of the film.

Analysis: Pushpaka Vimanam starts in a decent manner and manages to engage the audience right away. The movie wastes no time in coming to the point of conflict and the story breezes through in the first half. It is the second half that kills the momentum of the film with dull writing and elaborate scenes. While the first half has some genuinely fun moments with situational comedy, the second half falters and stops the movie from realizing its potential

Plus Points:

BGM

Few comedy scenes

Minus Points:

Second half

Weak characterization of the support cast

Climax

Verdict: Pushpaka Vimanam is a classic example of a novel concept ad botched execution. The film showcases lots of promise and has moments that will engage you. However, the writing doesn’t engage the viewer and one would often wander off from the film. A stronger climax and tighter screenplay would have done wonders here.
