Veera Simha Reddy’s release day is almost here and the fans’ excitement and buzz for the movie are breaking all records. The first one in line is the sensational pre-sales milestone that this Gopichand Malineni film has achieved.

Veera Simha Reddy’s pre-sales figures have now crossed the $500 k mark and the film is showcasing its rage at the USA box office. This is highly unexpected as both Gopichand Malineni and Balakrishna have a comparatively weaker market overseas.

However, both of them are coming after the massive success of Krack and Akhand respectively and the audience might be expecting this momentum from this project as well.

Bankrolled by Mythri Movie Makers, Veera Simha Reddy stars Shruti Haasan alongside Balayya with Duniya Vijay and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar essaying key roles in this Gopichand Malineni project. The film will release on 12th January and will be directly competing with Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya while will hit the screens a day later.

The film’s worldwide theatrical rights are valued at 73.3Crs. The film has a good chance to achieve a breakeven mark at Box-office owing to the Sankranthi holiday advantage.

Kollywood Star Vijay’s Varisu is the next big release for the Sankranti season. The film features Rashmika for the first time with ‘Thalapathy’ and the makers have promised the movie to be a wholesome family entertainer with enough whistle-worthy moments for Vijay’s fans. Amidst all these, how’s the execution, and did Thalapathy manage to win the audience’s hearts after the disaster of Beast? Let’s find out.

Story: Vijay Rajendran (Vijay) has little interest in being a part of the business empire run by his father Rajendran (Sarathkumar). His elder brothers Ajay Rajendran (Sham) and Vijay Rajendran(Srikanth) help their father with their massive business while Vijay is a carefree soul. Through a twist of events Vijay has to take his responsibility and protect his family as well as business. Why did he come back and how he eventually conquers the challenges is what Varisu follows.

Performances: Vijay as a carefree soul does a decent job and while the movie provides little scope for performance, he has to be content with the traditional punch dialogues and fights to carry the movie ahead. Jayasudha and Sarathkumar as his parents do a good job and Srikanth and Sham have a decent presence but that ends once Vijay takes over. Rashmika has nothing special to do here and as the commercial format goes, she just adds to the hero’s character arc. Prakash Raj as the antagonist Jayaprakash has a meaty role and something he has done countless times in his career and presents no novelty.

Analysis: Varisu is a familiar tale that we have seen countless times in Telugu movies. Plot-wise there’s no freshness and it’s Vijay, who to a large extent manages to bring fun to the proceedings. The film takes too long to get to the conflict and takes its own sweet time to establish the characters and their dynamics. The slow and dull first half is salvaged by a racy latter half which does complete fan service and plays to the gallery.

Verdict: 

Varisu is a classic example of old wine in a new bottle. Several scenes and situations would remind you of some earlier movies and plot similarities are too obvious to ignore. However, the movie is saved by strong technical aspects with production values and Thaman’s BGM particularly elevating Vijay and his quest to protect his family and business.

After Nerkonda Parvai and Valimai, Thegimpu is the third film in the combination of Ajith, H Vinoth, and Boney Kapoor. This time, the trio as picked up a heist-action entertainer as the premise and the trailer surely created great curiosity. Does the movie have enough to sustain this or is it another case of well packaged but not the well-made product? Let’s find out.

Story: The movie starts with an elaborate bank robbery plan which is hijacked by Darkdevil. Who is this darkdevil and what relation he has with the robbers and what he got involved in this robbery/hijack scheme? This is what the movie follows.

Performances: Ajith Kumar steals the show in Thegimpu; he makes a big entrance, shakes his leg frequently, sends goons flying, and moonwalks through this cakewalk of a movie that doesn’t ask too much of him. Ajith portrays Dark Devil, a lone mercenary who works for hire and has another side to him as well. Manju Warrier ably supports Ajith and is a great addition to the cast. Other cast members like Samuthirakani and John Kokken don’t have anything new and are a part of Ajith’s one man show.

Analysis: Thegimpu is a commentary on various things and banks and money are one of them. Vinoth tries to ensure this whole process doesn’t get preachy but the Telugu audience have seen something similar very recently. Overall, Ajith and Vinoth have tried to give a novel treatment to the man vs the system trope but falter at various places due to screenplay and narration issues

Verdict: 

Thegimpu tries to infuse commercial elements in its narration on social issues such as media manipulation, banking, and money among others, and just uses heist as a platform. While the audience may expect an out-and-out heist action thriller, Thunivu gives them a social drama with strong action points.

Today is the biggest day for the Tamil cinema audience as two big superstars Ajith Kumar and Vijay have released their films Thunivu and Varisu on the same day. Lets look at the first day first show reports of these movies.

Thunivu movie’s first half has received decent reports, but the second half is said to be flat, and the climax is also very disappointing. An excellent action block is the saving grace of the film. Overall, the film is carrying average reports from the early shows, and it can be enjoyed by Ajith fans.

Varisu has got reports it has a slow start in the first half, but the narration picked up strongly towards the interval. The second half had a few scenes which worked really well.

According to the reviews, Director Vamsi Paidipally has handled emotions and comedy elements effectively. The film is carrying above average to decent reports overall.

Thalapathy Vijay has massive fan base and with the advantage of festival release he can score big blockbuster if the talk comes good for Varisu. Whereas Ajith’s Thunivu is a one-sided film which would require a strong word of mouth to compete with Varisu.

Let’s watch out who wins the battle between these two Tamil superstars. As far as the early shows talk, Varisu appears to have the lead over Thunivu.

SS Rajamouli’s RRR, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR has won the Best Song (Motion Picture) for Naatu Naatu Song at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

RRR has created history as the first Indian film to earn a Golden Globe. While the win is a first for India, Naatu Naatu ‘s music director MM Keeravani also became the first Golden Globe winner to be played offstage during his acceptance speech.

Keeravani, accepting the award on behalf of other singer-songwriters, said he was “overwhelmed” by the honor. He further said he was happy to share this moment with his wife.

The 80th Golden Globe Awards are being held in Los Angeles on January 11 (IST). The function is being held at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Indian film RRR has won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu at the ceremony. Music director MM Keeravani collected the trophy. They also nominated the film for Best Non-English Language Film.

In the Best Non-English Language Film category, RRR is facing competition against Germany’s All Quiet on the Western Front, Argentina’s Argentina 1985, Belgium’s Close, and South Korea’s Decision to Leave.

In the Best Original Song category, ‘Naatu Naatu’ was competing against—‘Carolina’ (Taylor Swift) from Where the Crawdads Sing, ‘Ciao Papa’ (Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, and Guillermo del Toro)—Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, ‘Hold My Hand’ (Lady Gaga, Blood Pop, and Benjamin Rice)—Top Gun: Maverick and ‘Lift Me Up’ (Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson)—Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, Jr NTR and MM Keeravani all took part in a Q&A session at Los Angeles’ Chinese Theaters days before the ceremony. They have stationed the director in LA for the last few months as he is taking part in the Oscar campaign of the film.

Telangana Government has granted the permission for special shows for Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy movies. Now both the biggies can enjoy the sixth show in Telangana.

According to the reports, preparations are being made by the exhibitors to conduct these special shows in selected screens. This would certainly mount the hype in the fan base of both the heroes.

Sankranti’s big releases Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy are just a couple of days away from their releases. Both films have been produced by Mythri Movie Makers, apart from competing among themselves, these films will also clash with Vijay’s Varisu/Varasudu and Ajith’s Thunivu/Thegimpu.

Veera Simha Reddy will be the first one to release of the two and will hit the screens on 12th January while Waltair Veerayya will release on 13th January. Fans were slightly concerned about the screens Balayya and Chiru movies will get, considering Dil Raju’s backing for Varisu and Thunivu.

However, The Telugu version of Varisu was postponed to January 14th which gave Veera Simha Reddy an immense advantage on its first day as it is getting a massive number of screens across the Telugu States.

Waltair Veerayya also includes Mass Maharaj Ravi Teja in a crucial role. According to the reports, his character’s screen time in the film will be around forty minutes. Shruti Haasan is the female lead opposite Chiranjeevi, Catherine Tresa will be seen opposite Ravi Teja.

Alongside Balakrishna, Veera Simha Reddy also includes Kannada Actor Duniya Vijay, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the antagonists roles. Actress Honey Rose will be seen in an important role and Shruti Haasan is playing the female lead.

RRR is getting bigger and bigger day by day and its reach is making the Indian film fraternity proud every day, but it also filled the journey with a few mistakes. The internet is currently cringing over a video in which actor NTR is trying the American accent during an interview for the film.

The star and other members of the film’s unit are in the US to campaign for RRR ahead of the Golden Globe Awards. They nominated the SS Rajamouli directorial in two categories at the popular international cinema awards—Best Original Song—Motion Picture, and Best Picture—Non-English Language.

Monday, a new video of the film’s team from an interview in the US emerged on social media. Jr NTR, who plays the role of Komaram Bheem in RRR, is seen talking about the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ in the video. But his accent in the video really irked his fans and audience.
