Ponniyin Selvan 2: Epic Historical Film Crosses the 200 Crore Milestone at the Box Office

Ponniyin Selvan 2, the Epic Historical film, has shown good hold on its 1st Monday. Today being a holiday also has helped the movie maintain super strong collections and the movie has now crossed the 200 Crores mark at the Global Box Office. Like Part 1, the film is doing great numbers in the Tamil while underperforming in other languages.

Touted as Mani Ratnam’s dream project, Ponniyin Selvan 2 was released in the theaters on Friday and received a good response from the audience and critics as well. The audience liked it better than part 1 because this sequel had more emotional connect. The film, though a bit under performed on the opening day, the numbers raised on day 2 as expected by the trade circles, and it continued the good run at the box office even after the opening weekend as it crossed the magical 200 Crore Mark.

The story of Ponniyin Selvan 2 explores the past love story between Aditha Karikalan and Nandini, how they were separated and what made Nandini to seek vengeance on Chola Kingdom. The narrative also follows Arunmozhi Varman’s rise as the renowned emperor Rajaraja Chola.

The film comprises a huge star cast that includes Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. Ashwin Kakumanu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Lal, and Mohan Raman are also part of the cast. The movie is Produced by Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions.

The music of the film is scored by AR Rahman, and the cinematography has been handled by Ravi Varman, editing by Sreekar Prasad, production design by Thotta Tharani, dialogues by Jeyamohan, costumes by Eka Lakhani, make-up by Vikram Gaikwad, and choreography by Brinda.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Son Set to Make Industry Debut as a Director

Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan is now all set to make his industry debut, not as an actor, but as a director. Aryan Khan’s writing project will be backed by his father, Shah Rukh Khan. He will make his directorial debut with a web series titled Stardom. The show is reported to have the backdrop of the Indian Film Industry. The streaming platform of this Web Series is not announced yet.

Earlier there were reports emerged that Aryan will make a feature film for one of the leading OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. However, Aryan himself later announced that he had completed the drafting of his first project, which is a web-series. He will be the director and showrunner of the series. His show is called Stardom, and filming for the same thing has started right now. This series will consist of six episodes, according to reports. An official confirmation on the same is awaited. It is backed by SRK and Gauri’s Red Chilies Entertainment.

Apart from this, Aryan Khan has recently shot an ad film where he got to direct his father, Shah Rukh Khan. They were both featured in an ad for the streetwear brand D’yavol X, co-founded by the debutante. This announcement was directed by Aryan. In an interview with the media, Aryan was asked if teaming up with his superstar father was challenging, to which he replied that Shah Rukh brings in a lot of comfort in a set.

On the film front, Shah Rukh is currently awaiting the release of his next feature, Jawan. The film, directed by Atlee, is scheduled to be released on June 2.

It has become a common trend in recent times where many films are going into shooting without a full-bound script. This was the norm back in the day, but it is puzzling why this trend has continued for so long.

There have been many instances where films have flopped tremendously just due to the lack of a bound script. Just take the recently released Akhil Akkineni starrer Agent for example. The film was promoted as a spy thriller and that was probably the plot line as well.

But once the film was released, people wondered where the spy elements were. Even the producer of Agent, Anil Sunkara made some comments regarding the same. Now, for Mahesh Babu and Trivikram’s SMMB 28, the same mistakes are being repeated. They have initially chosen an action-oriented film but due to some reasons, the genre has been changed. The team went into shooting for the first half because there was already a lot of delay in the shoot. It has been several days but the second half of the film has still not been completed.

But one thing is that Trivikram has always done this with a lot of his films and delivered blockbusters as well. So, it is to be seen how SSMB 28 turns out.

Agent Producer reveals the main reason for the failure

Akhil Akkineni’s latest theatrical release, Agent, turned out to be one of the greatest disasters of all time in the Telugu cinema. It is not likely to hit the double-digit share. Normally, when a project, supposedly made with a budget of RS 80 crores bombs at the box office, there will be definitely blame games. The same is happening with the film Agent now.

The Producer of Agent, Anil Sunkara has shared a lengthy note on social media through which he appears to have directly blamed the director, Surender Reddy as the main reason for the failure of the movie. “We have to take the entire blame for #Agent. Though we know its an uphill task, we thought of conquering but failed to do so as we did a blunder starting the project without a bound script & innumerable issues including covid followed” Anil tweeted.

Anil’s tweet has received mixed response on social media, as some are supporting him whereas some are not. The netizens say that Anil making a big-budget project like Agent and commencing the production without a bound script shows that he had belief in the experience and talent of director Surender Reddy which has backfired unexpectedly.

If we observe the promotions of Agent from the beginning, Anil Sunkara was hyping the whole project in the interviews and interactions on social media to on another level, which is understandable, considering the budget and the business dynamics associated with the movie.

Anil, as stated by himself, invested over Rs 80 crores in the project. And now that the movie has failed miserably at the box office, he has to face the loss. The regret is visible in the note he posted on social media. However, as said above, some netizens agree with him, whereas some are saying that it is not to cite the director Surender Reddy as the main reason for the failure of the movie.
