Akhil Akkineni’s latest theatrical release, Agent, turned out to be one of the greatest disasters of all time in the Telugu cinema. It is not likely to hit the double-digit share. Normally, when a project, supposedly made with a budget of RS 80 crores bombs at the box office, there will be definitely blame games. The same is happening with the film Agent now.
The Producer of Agent, Anil Sunkara has shared a lengthy note on social media through which he appears to have directly blamed the director, Surender Reddy as the main reason for the failure of the movie. “We have to take the entire blame for #Agent. Though we know its an uphill task, we thought of conquering but failed to do so as we did a blunder starting the project without a bound script & innumerable issues including covid followed” Anil tweeted.
Anil’s tweet has received mixed response on social media, as some are supporting him whereas some are not. The netizens say that Anil making a big-budget project like Agent and commencing the production without a bound script shows that he had belief in the experience and talent of director Surender Reddy which has backfired unexpectedly.
If we observe the promotions of Agent from the beginning, Anil Sunkara was hyping the whole project in the interviews and interactions on social media to on another level, which is understandable, considering the budget and the business dynamics associated with the movie.
Anil, as stated by himself, invested over Rs 80 crores in the project. And now that the movie has failed miserably at the box office, he has to face the loss. The regret is visible in the note he posted on social media. However, as said above, some netizens agree with him, whereas some are saying that it is not to cite the director Surender Reddy as the main reason for the failure of the movie.
