OTT Business – Nani is miles ahead

0

During the coronavirus pandemic, the OTT business has peaked for the cinema industry. Many filmmakers made profits despite the hurdles posed by the pandemic through digital business. This resulted in the rise of budgets, remunerations, and everything else. However, with the rise of OTT, the satellite business has declined significantly. Nonetheless, makers are okay with this shift as OTT platforms offer substantial amounts.

However, recently, OTT platforms are reportedly facing losses, prompting them to take careful steps. They are no longer buying all films for higher prices; instead, they selectively choose certain films and buy their rights. This change in strategy by OTT platforms has heavily impacted medium-budget and small films. Now, medium-budget films are reaching 100Cr budgets, believing they can recover through digital platforms. They are facing significant issues, leading to the shelving of many projects, even after official announcements.

Now, many medium-budget films in the final stage are struggling to secure an OTT deal. All medium-budget heroes are suffering due to this, excluding Nani. Regardless of the director, Nani’s films are doing huge business on OTT platforms, thanks to their recent success. Even “Hi Nanna,” which has been streaming for a long time, still trends in the top 10 on Netflix in both its Hindi and Telugu versions. All of Nani’s recent films have been acquired by Netflix, and they are performing exceptionally well for the platform.

Saripodhaa Sanivaaram rights were also bought by Netflix for a massive amount of 45Cr. Nani’s strong content selection is the reason behind these impressive numbers. In the theatrical business, tier 2 heroes are almost at the same level, but in the OTT business, Nani is miles ahead of other heroes

Jeeva and Mammootty Receive Huge Remunerations for Yatra 2

0

Yatra 2 is slated to release on February 9th. The movie has extremely low hype and almost negligible promotions. As per reports, the movie is shot on a massive budget of Rs 50 crores and the actors’ remunerations consist of a large chunk of the production budget.

For regular films, the heroes normally quote the same remunerations to all their producers. But when they are signing any controversial films or agenda-driven films such as Yatra 2, not only the heroes but everyone takes bigger than usual remunerations.

For Yatra 2, Jeeva has reportedly received 8 Cr remuneration and Mammootty, who is in an extended cameo appearance has received 3cr remunerations. Not only the heroes, music director Santhosh Narayanan, Director Mahi V Raghav and DOP Madhie have received huge remunerations which resulted 50cr budget for the film.

Mahi V Raghav’s Yatra 2 a sequel of his 2019 film is set to release on 8th February. The film is not a usual entertainer and is loaded with political references, and agendas. It chronicles the life of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy after the death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy and his subsequent Padayatra against the wishes of the Congress high command. With elections approaching in AP later this year, YSRCP supporters have pinned high hopes on this film.

First Part’s Poor Results Lead to Shelving of Sequel Plans

0

With sequels and franchises being the flavour of the season, all industries are now planning their films in multiple parts as it covers the budget and the story can also be explained in detail. But, there is a small problem with the sequels. If the first part works then there is no issue and a huge buzz will be created on other parts. But right now most of the film’s first part itself is not working which is resulting in shelving of sequel plans.

Recently Boyapati Sreenu- Ram’s Skanda was abruptly ended by introducing the 2nd character and a lead to part 2. The problem here is that part 1 itself failed to impress so part 2 was shelved. Sreekanth Addala’s Peddha Kapu was planned for 3 parts and was a box-office disaster leading to the next two parts being shelved. Kalyan Ram’s devil was also announced in two parts and after the 1st part saw a bad result, there was no chance of part 2.

Not only in Tollywood but in Kollywood also the same has been happening. Dhanush’s Captain Miller was planned in two parts but part 1 did not work well. It did a decent job in Tamil but other languages were a disaster. In Mollywood, Mohanlal’s big-budget film Malaikotai Vaaliban was planned in multiple parts but the 1st part ended up as a disaster.

The most recent entrant into this list is Venkatesh’s Saindhav which was also like a franchise. But the movie was a disaster and while the climax portion suggested a lead-up to the second part, it is highly unlikely that this Sailesk Kolanu film will have a sequel. The makers need to be careful and announce a 2-part or a 3-part film only if the need arises. Going for multiple parts just because its a trend will only result in half-baked movies and no sequels later on.

Rajinikanth Gets Emotional and Teary-Eyed Over ‘Sanghi’ remark

0

Superstar Rajinikanth starrer Lal Salaam’s audio launch event happened a few days back and it was released online on Sunday. In the audio launch, there were many monumental moments including one where the Superstar clarified his alleged feud with Vijay. He requested fans and the audience to not take his words in other meanings.

“I said crow and eagle story generically, and in social media, it spread as if I referred to Vijay. I really did not mean that,” said Rajini clarifying about his earlier speech at the Jailer event which led to the war of words between fans of both stars.

“I have seen Vijay from childhood. He with his hard work has emerged as a big star,” recollected the Superstar. Another major highlight of the event was Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s speech over people terming Rajinikanth as a Sanghi’. “Rajinikanth is not Sanghi, if he were Sanghi he would not have accepted Lal salaam film,” she stated emotionally while Rajini could also be seen moved to tears.

Sanghi is a term often used for hardcore right-wingers and Rajini’s recent meeting with Yogi Adityanath where the star even touched the feet of the UP CM attracted some criticism. Rajini’s overall camaraderie with BJP leaders in centre has also led to many questioning his political stance along with ‘Sanghi’ remarks.

Directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth, Lal Salaam stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in lead roles while Rajinikanth will be seen in an extended cameo. AR Rahman has composed the music for this film slated to release on 9th February.

Prabhas’ Salaar made its way to OTT platforms last month with the film releasing in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam on Netflix. The film received a cold response from other versions but the Telugu version has done well and is constantly trending in the top 10 ever since.

Now, Salaar English has made its way to Netflix in a bid to attract the global audience. RRR English version worked extremely well for the makers and got global recognition for the SS Rajamouli film and witnessed record viewership and weeks and weeks of trending on top. With Salaar 2 set to start its shoot soon Prasanth Neel and co will be hoping Salaar creates a similar magic.

After English version, the movie is likely to have a bigger reach with international audiences having access to it. Salaar’s team hoping the film get reach like RRR in international markets. If the first part works well globally, then the second part will have a global theatrical release.

We now need to see how it works for the Hindi audience once the Hindi version releases. The Hindi audience must connect more with part 1 to generate buzz for part 2. The Hindi streaming is expected to happen in February 3rd week.

Teja Sajja and Prashanth Varma’s Statements Face Big Criticism

0

The blockbuster success of Hanuman has once again proven that content matters and not the starpower. Hanuman emerged as not just the Sankranthi 2024 winner but also the biggest Sankranthi blockbuster in the 92 years of the history of Telugu cinema. This is a career-defining blockbuster with a gross of around 275Cr worldwide.

Both Teja Sajja and Prasantha Varma and the entire Hanuman team put a lot of effort into the making of this film. They have achieved great success despite all the hurdles. But, of late, a few statements by the actor-director duo have attracted some criticism on social media

Teja Sajja recently stated that he rejected 70-75 films for this project. These films also include 15 good projects and he spent 2.5 years of time for this success. Prasanth Varma on the other hand has been the toast of the town since the movie released. He has been sharing his grand plans about Prasanth Cinematic Universe.

He has gone on record saying he got a 1000 Cr offer from an NRI after Hanuman’s release. The director further added that he wanted to make Ramyan but Nitish Tiwari is doing that. He added that he also wanted to make Mahabharata but Rajamouli is in plans to do so. So he dropped these. All these statements have attracted some criticism from netizen who feel Prasanth Varma and Teja Sajja still have a long way to go.

Yatra 2 budget is 50 Cr

0

Mahi V Raghav’s Yatra 2 a sequel of his 2019 film is set to release on 8th February. The film is not a usual entertainer and is loaded with political references, and agendas. It chronicles the life of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy after the death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy and his subsequent Padayatra against the wishes of the Congress high command. With elections approaching in AP later this year, YSRCP supporters have pinned high hopes on this film.

The film budget is said to be massive of 50Cr. A lot of this budget has gone into the remunerations of actors like Mammooty, Jeeva, and Mahesh Manjrekar among others along with the rest of the crew. The chances of recovering this is certainly not possible. But it won’t be loss to any person and can be seen as a venture that will benefit YSRCP. So it can be said that they will be indirectly part of this film who will take care of everything. The film is not about the numbers, it’s about reaching a maximum number of people.

Yatra2 is about Jaganmohan Reddy who takes up his father’s mantle after the latter’s tragic death, only to face ruthless challenges from rivals. This sentimental, slow-burn Telugu language drama, based on real events has brief sequences of police brutality. The film has a runtime of 2 hours 10 minutes and 8 seconds.
