Bharateeyudu-2: Pre-Release Business Details

Indian-2 is one of the biggest films of this year. Made as a direct sequel to the cult blockbuster Indian (1996), it stars Kamal Hassan reprising his role of Senapathy. Bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Red Gaint Movies, it also stars S. J. Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, and Rakul Preet Singh.

Despite lacking any buzz in the trade, the makers have managed to make good business in Telugu states; this can be attributed to Shankar’s brand value and, of course, the massive success of Kamal’s previous outing, Vikram (2022). Though the figures remain unknown, it is reported that Asian Cinemas has bought the film’s theatrical rights in Nizam and Uttarandhra, whereas N. V. Prasad (under Mega Super Good Films) will distribute it in the Ceded region.

All in all, Bharateeyudu-2 (Indian-2 in its telugu-dubbed version) will have a grand release across Telugu states. It’s worth noting that the original flick Bharateeyudu was a cultural phenomenon in Telugu back in the 1990s. It’s interesting to see how this sequel will fare at the box office.

After making a promising debut with the coming-of-age drama Yevade Subrmanyam (2015), he went on to write and direct the internationally acclaimed biographical film Mahanati (2018). This gave him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a mega-budgeted sci-fi film starring Prabhas in the lead role. Releasing in August 2023, the film received positive reviews from critics and emerged as a mammoth commercial success, minting over 600 crore INR. The film’s success brought ‘Super Star’ back on track after facing continuous setbacks until then.

Keeping aside the guest appearance he made in Lal Salaam (2024), he’ll be next seen in a full-length role in Vettaiyan, an action drama film helmed by T. J. Gnanavel of Jai Bhim (2021) fame. Produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner ‘Lyca Productions’, it also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati in key roles. Coming to the point, an interesting leak regarding this film has surfaced on the internet and gone viral. According to this leak, the story is set in 1980s-90s India, and Rajinikanth will be seen as a dedicated police officer who fights against corporate exploitation of educational institutions. Fans went gaga over this theory, and in no time, it broke the internet.

As of today, over 70% of filming has been completed, and the remaining portions are aimed for completion by April 2024. The film is expected to have extensive poet-production work owing to its retro style; the makers are reportedly planning for a Diwali release.
