Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer did not have any big expectations in Telugu states particularly as he was not on a blockbuster streak. His previous films were not huge hits and even director Nelson was not a big brand in Telugu states. His previous film Beast was a failure. On top of this, Jailer released with Bhola Shankar in competition.
The movie’s rights were bought by Asian Sunil and Dil Raju for 13Cr and it opened with positive word of mouth. Another advantage added was that Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar received terrible reviews and talk and received an outright rejection from the audience. Jailer did a tremendous job at the box office and in Telugu states the film collected more than 85Cr gross [Including the Tamil version]. Only the Telugu version’s worldwide gross was near to 100Cr and no one expected this kind of performance.
With Jailer, Rajinikanth shut down all the people who thought his market was gone in Telugu. He has yet again proven that he is the biggest star in Telugu states from other languages and no one is even near to him. He just needs a positive talk and his films can put big numbers.
