Geethanjali Returns, Audiences didn’t

We mostly see sequels recreating the success of their prequels. Many times sequels end up missing the magic and continuity of the first part. The same happened to Geethanjali Malli Vachhindhi, the sequel of Geethanjali released in 2014. Geethanjali became a big success for both Anjali and Srinivasa Reddy. But now Geethanjali has returned but the same audiences didn’t.

The sequel released almost after a decade. There is no room for a sequel creation as well but the makers wanted to do it again. The promotional content of the film too didn’t excite the audience. It was such that many people didn’t even know the film was released today. Geethanjali Malli Vachhindhi released today to very poor word of mouth and reviews which resulted in a disastrous opening for the film despite the holiday occasion of Ramzan. There is also no chance for the film to pick up and is heading towards an outright disaster.

People are still preferring to watch Tillu Square, Manjummel Boys, and Family Star which released a week ago. All these films still struck the audience so Geethanjali Malli Vachhindhi didn’t even have a choice. Tillu Square has already crossed 100 crores and may touch even the 150 crores gross worldwide.

PVR Inox Speaks Out on Malayalam Cinema Ban

PVR Inox Cinemas, a popular multiplex chain engaged in a battle with local distributors of the Malayalam Film Industry. It began when a group of individuals from the ‘Kerala Film Producers Association established a company called ‘PDC’ and mandated all the exhibitors to purchase digital prints from them. PVR Inox which has its set of rules didn’t oblige and stopped screening Malayalam films one after the other.

Manjummel Boys which is running strong too had to face the heat because of this decision. Now, PVR Inox has officially spoken on the issue. Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR Inox has tweeted through his official X account. He said that an action of forcing an exhibitor to procure content from only one source is anti-competitive in nature and is also prohibited under the law. The CEO also said every film is important to them and they are also incumbent to showcase new movie provided to all their customers.

The management also said that they had always been a reliable partner to Malayalam film industry studios, Producers, Artists, and other creators. They also appealed to all Malayalam film producers to constructively engage with them and help make the Malayalam film Industry bigger and better.

Telugu films releasing on OTT this weekend

This is an exciting streaming weekend for the Telugu Audiences. Recently released films which were decent hits are about to stream on OTT Platforms. Gaami, Om Bheem Bush, and Premalu‘s OTT dates and streaming partners have been fixed and their details are as follows:

All the three films will be streaming today i.e., on 12th April. Gaami Starring Vishwak Sen and Chandini Chowdary will be streaming on Zee5. Om Bheem Bush starring Sree Vishnu, Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna will stream on Amazon Prime Video and Premalu Telugu version will stream on Aha Video. However, Premalu’s original Malayalam version will stream on Disney+Hotstar.

Gaami and Om Bheem Bush were decent hits whereas Premalu became a blockbuster hit grossing more than 100 crores worldwide in the Malayalam Version alone.

Premalu was released in Telugu by SS Karthikeya following its success in Malayalam. The film recreated its success in Telugu as well grossing nearly 15 crores worldwide in Telugu Version. This was the highest for any Telugu Dubbed Malayalam film ever. Om Bheem Bush on the other hand became a safe venture for Sree Vishnu who scored a hit with Saamajavaragamana. Gaami also generated enough buzz but the film was outshined by Premalu’s Telugu version.

Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was initially planned to be released on 10th April. But poor advance bookings led the makers to postpone the release by a day and the movie was released today and opened with mixed reviews and word of mouth. 

The film all of a sudden saw an unbelievable jump yesterday night in national chains’ bookings. It even crosses 100K+ admits for release day advances in national chains and this sudden development has stunned many.

This sudden change in the booking trends has led to Bollywood trade circles directly stating that the Bade Miyan Chote Miyan team went for corporate bookings to show a bigger opening number for the film. This trend of corporate booking has become a regular feature of recent Bollywood releases. Recently, Shahrukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar also faced corporate bookings accusations from the Bollywood trade.

Both Akshay and Tiger are in serious need of a box-office success but the poor bookings and audience interest trends are surely a worrying sign. The film features Prithviraj Sukumaran in a negative role, while also starring Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar, and Alaya F.

Single Release Date Option for Kanguva

Tamil Actor Suriya’s upcoming film, Kanguva is made on a large scale directed by Siva. The film will be released in Pan India level in all languages. But the team has made a mistake by not announcing the release date even after wrapping the entire shoot. The team says they don’t want to pressurise themselves because of a release window and compromise on film’s output. So, there will be a single release date option for Kanguva.

The team of Kanguva says they would announce the release only after post production works get finished. But this would affect the Industry as films lock release dates in advance. Kanguva is expected to arrive in September or October. There are 3 films lined up in these months. Vijay’s The GOAT will be released in September 5th as officially announced by the makers. Vettaiyan starring Rajinikanth will release on October 10th and Ajith’s Vidaa Muyarchi will arrive in October. There are many Telugu films as well.

November will be a dry period with no Holiday season. So the best release date would be during Christmas. But if they postpone it to next year Sankranthi, there are many films from both Telugu and Tamil languages. Ajith’s upcoming film has already been announced for sankranthi. So it would be best to release the film during Christmas season. Let’s see what the team will do.

NTR to clash with Rajinikanth

Tollywood Actor, Jr. NTR is all set to clash with Rajinikanth at the Box office. His upcoming film, Devara directed by Koratala Shiva is being made on a large scale and aiming for a Pan India Release. Devara is already announced for release on 10th October. Now, Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, Vettaiyan is also announced as October release. It is also learned that the team is informing the distributors that the film will release on 10th October.

Vettaiyan is a star-studded film with Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana playing pivotal roles. Vettaiyan will also be planned as a Pan India film and these actors’ presence would make it such a film. Team of Devara is very confident about the film. NTR recently spoke about Devara highly and said that it would definitely make all the fans proud in Tillu Square’s success meet.

Devara was actually planned for this year’s summer but postponed due to shooting delays. The film has missed a big chance and no film was there to clash with Devara this summer. Now Vettaiyan along with Devara’s release would minimise its effect at the Box office. This year’s summer release Tillu Square has completely utilised the season and grossed more than 100 crores worldwide.

Malayalam Film, Premalu became a sensational hit impressing all sections of audiences. The film is a rom-com entertainer with no star cast. It managed to recieve positive reviews and grossed more than 100 crores gross worldwide. The film is now all set to stream on OTT and it’s details are as follows:

Premalu will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on 12 th April from Midnight. It’s Telugu Version will stream on Aha Video on 12th April at 6 A.M. Many other language Audiences are waiting for Premalu’s streaming on OTT. The film when received a positive review attracted SS Karthikeya son of Director SS Rajamouli who bought the rights of the film and distributed it in Telugu.

Premalu’s Telugu Version has grossed more than 15 crores worldwide and became a big success. It is also the highest grossing Malayalam film in Telugu. The film faced tough competition with its Telugu competitors Bhima starring Gopichand and Gaami starring Vishwak Sen. Premalu managed to outshine these both and had become the no 1 choice for the audiences. Manjummel Boys too received a bit of inspiration from Premalu Telugu Version’s success and was released here which is doing well as well at the Box office here. It may even cross Premalu.

All the other industries are struggling to deliver a single hit while Mollywood has been continuously producing amazing blockbusters. Today three news have been released out of which two are major star films. One is Aavesham starring Fahadh Faasil, the second one is Varshangalkku Shesham starring Nivin Pauly and the third is Jai Ganesh starring Unnimukundan. Aavesham and Varshangalkku Shesham opened to positive reviews and excellent openings as well. On the other hand, Jai Ganesh too received positive reviews which is quite shocking.
