Is Premalu Overrated?

0

Malayalam film, Premalu became a sensation by grossing more than 100 crores worldwide. It received unanimous positive reviews after its release in Malayalam and ended up collecting nearly 135 crores gross worldwide. The film with its hype and performance attracted Telugu buyers as well. SS Karthikeya, son of SS Rajamouli bought the rights and distributed the film in Telugu States. It did very well here as well grossing nearly 15 crores. But after its OTT release, there has been a talk that Premalu is Overrated. Let’s discuss.

Premalu is a rom-com entertainer. It arrived today on OTT on Aha in Telugu and Disney+Hotstar in Malayalam. Reviews coming in from the OTT Audiences are mixed. One section of people are posting positive response after watching the film while some sections of people are terming it as Overrated. They also feel that the film was just okay but received too much appreciation.

Premalu was even made with a low-star cast in Malayalam. But it is now striking chords to other language people. The film performed very well even in Telugu state by grossing 15 crores. It also became the highest-grossing Telugu Dubbed Malayalam film here. But now many Telugu people feel that the film is overrated because of Internet endorsement.

S. S. Rajamouli is perhaps the only film director with a superstar-level image, following, and influence. The fact that multi-million-dollar companies are choosing him over actors is a testament to his unparalleled charisma. Having said that, an ad commercial for CRED that features this prolific filmmaker alongside David Warner has gone viral on the internet.

Owned by Kunal Shah, CRED is a fintech company based in Bangalore that is known for its super-creative advertisements featuring veteran cricketers. Moving in the same direction, the company came up with a creative idea to promote their product, which is to rope Rajamouli and Australian star cricketer David Warner.

While the former played himself, the latter played the role of an aspiring actor; the duo together have pulled off one of the funniest advertisements in recent times. Unveiled today, the ad went viral on the internet in no time. CRED has yet again proved its mettle in creative promotional campaigns.

Aavesham: Biggest opening day for Fahadh Faasil

0

The Malayalam film, Aavesham starring Fahadh Faashil was released yesterday with positive reviews and word of mouth. Aavesham also became the biggest opening day for Fahadh Faasil worldwide. The film also happens to be his second-biggest grosser in his home state, Kerala. His earlier film Trance still holds this record with around 3.5 crores. Now, with Aavesham Fahadh Faasil has managed to score 3.2 crores in Kerala.

In his home state, Kerala right now there is an issue going on with PVR Inox which made the number shrink a bit. Already running, The Goat Life/Aadu Jeevitham is still going strong and this also affected Aavesham’s opening numbers in Kerala. Fahadh Faasil has already been getting applause for his performance in Aavesham. The film may even score much bigger this weekend and become his highest-grosser as well.

The Malayalam Film Industry has been riding very high with its recent successes, Premalu, The Goat Life/Aadu Jeevitham, and Manjummel Boys. All these films have grossed 100 crores worldwide. Manjummel Boys has gone further grossing 200 crores worldwide and officially became the Industry hit there. Aavesham may well score 100 crores if the same momentum continues as there is summer season ahead with holidays.

Malayalam film, The Goat Life also titled Aadu Jeevitham starring Prithviraj Sukumaran has struck gold at the Box office. The film has already crossed more than 100 crores gross at the Box office worldwide and the good news is it has now entered Malayalam film Industry’s All Time Top 5 grossing films list.

The Goat Life still remains super solid and grossed nearly 130 crores Worldwide till yesterday. With this, it breached Lucifer and emerged as the 5th highest grossing film there officially. The next target of the film will be Premalu which grossed nearly 135 crores worldwide. This too will be broken by The Goat Life by this weekend and it would then emerge as 4th highest grossing Malayalam film. It also has high chances of breaking Puli Murugan to become the 3rd highest grossing film standing only next to 2018 and Manjummel Boys.

2018 and Manjummel Boys created sensations with 200 crores gross worldwide. Breaking their records will be a big task for The Goat Life. It may go close to 200 crores but can’t go past them. Manjummel Boys is still running successfully in both Malayalam and Telugu languages. Manjummel Boys did well in Tamil Language as well making it a big success in South India as well.

Family Star’s First Week falls short of Liger’s opening day

0

Family Star starring Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur released on April 5th and opened to disastrous reviews. The film carried big hype before the release but didn’t live up to the expectations. Family Star also had Geethaa Govindam actor-director duo coming back. But all these didn’t help the film to create records at the Box office. It is so much so that Family Star’s first week’s whole collections fell short of Liger’s opening day numbers.

Liger too carried so much of hype and it opened to remarkable numbers. But the talk and reviews were disastrous and the film went down from day 2. But Interestingly, Family Star didn’t score well like Liger which was also a disaster. The opening day collections were not at all encouraging and it reflected the same during weekend as well. Now even after running for a week it didn’t beat Liger’s opening day numbers which is very very shocking.

Vijay Deverakonda must seriously look at what had gone wrong. They looked very confident before the film’s release. Producer Dil Raju and Director Parasuram expressed so much of confidence in the film but audience had completely rejected the film. The team even went ahead to lodge complaints against those who spoke bad about Family Star but these didn’t help. Competition with already running Blockbuster, Tillu Square had cost too big for Family Star and the team. They should’ve waited some more days for the release.

Mahi V Raghav’s political drama Yatra 2 starring Jiva in YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s role was released earlier this year. The biographical film was released amidst political heat due to upcoming elections and failed miserably at the box office.

The film after being a box-office debacle is now streaming on OTT platforms. The OTT release of the film is quite interesting considering AP Assembly Elections are scheduled just a month from now. Yatra 2 is a sequel to Yatra which followed the rise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy to the CM’s position.

The sequel, however, failed to live upto the expectations of the first part. The political drama starring Jivaa as YS Jaganmohan Reddy and Mammootty as YS Rajasekhara Reddy is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video

Mahi V Raghav’s Yatra 2 is a continuation of the first film that was released in 2019. The film is not a usual entertainer and is loaded with political references and agendas. It chronicles the life of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy after the death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy and his subsequent Padayatra against the wishes of the Congress high command.

You can now watch Yatra 2 on Amazon Prime Video by clicking here

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan: Nightmare for Producers

0

Eid is a massive occasion for Bollywood releases. Over the last decade, several Bollywood films aimed this holiday and scored blockbusters. This Eid, two releases from Bollywood heroes Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn were released hoping to recreate the same magic with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan.

Akshay Kumar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Ajay Devgn’s Maidan hit the screens to take advantage of Eid and the upcoming weekend. Ajay Devgan’s Maidaan was premiered on 10th April and opened with unanimous positive reviews.

Despite this, the film did not make much on its opening day. It just collected around 5 Cr nett on Day 1 and collections including premiers is around 7.5 Cr nett in India. The budget of the film is said to be around 250 Cr. For that budget, this is a disastrous opening.

The same is the case with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan where the budget is said to be more than 350 Cr and opening day numbers are in the range of 15 Cr nett in India. These numbers included corporate bookings according to Bollywood trade. Today, both movies had a disastrous advance booking. Both Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan are a nightmare for producers and on their way to becoming massive box office failures.

Geethanjali Returns, Audiences didn’t

0

We mostly see sequels recreating the success of their prequels. Many times sequels end up missing the magic and continuity of the first part. The same happened to Geethanjali Malli Vachhindhi, the sequel of Geethanjali released in 2014. Geethanjali became a big success for both Anjali and Srinivasa Reddy. But now Geethanjali has returned but the same audiences didn’t.

The sequel released almost after a decade. There is no room for a sequel creation as well but the makers wanted to do it again. The promotional content of the film too didn’t excite the audience. It was such that many people didn’t even know the film was released today. Geethanjali Malli Vachhindhi released today to very poor word of mouth and reviews which resulted in a disastrous opening for the film despite the holiday occasion of Ramzan. There is also no chance for the film to pick up and is heading towards an outright disaster.

People are still preferring to watch Tillu Square, Manjummel Boys, and Family Star which released a week ago. All these films still struck the audience so Geethanjali Malli Vachhindhi didn’t even have a choice. Tillu Square has already crossed 100 crores and may touch even the 150 crores gross worldwide.
