Mrunal Thakur needs a young makeover

Bollywood Actress, Mrunal Thakur rose to fame with her hit Sita Ramam in Telugu. The film made her grab opportunities in Telugu Film Industry. She did Hi Nanna with Natural Star Nani afterwards and Family Star with Vijay Deverakonda. She looked too old in these films or rather played matured woman roles. She badly needs a young makeover for the next films.

In Hi Nanna, she played an aged role as the mother of a 6 year old. In Family Star, there is a talk that she looked older than Vijay Deverakonda and she looked out of shape as well. She even spotted calling him like a wife in the teasers and trailers as well. The same happened with Hi Nanna where she looked a bit chubby. If she goes on establishing herself as a matured woman then she may not get a chance to work with young heroes for love stories. This might kill her chances as well.

Mrunal Thakur even received criticism for doing the same kind of roles in all the three films she did. So she must come out of this and try something different and new or else she may be limited to only these roles in the future.

The Goat Life/Aadu Jeevitham 2 weeks box-office collections

Malayalam film, The Goat Life also titled Aadu Jeevitham has grossed more than 100 crores worldwide and is going super strong in its second week run as well. The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Amala Paul in the lead roles and is a survival thriller. The Goat Life/Aadu Jeevitham 2 weeks worldwide box office collections are as follows:

The Goat Life has surpassed 125 crores gross worldwide in 2 weeks of its run. In the home state of Kerala, the film has collected 57 crores gross. The Rest of India gross takes it to more than 18 crores and the Overseas collection stands at around 6 Million which is equivalent to 50 crores. This takes the total gross to 125 crores mark. The film is still holding well and it is expected that the film may touch the 150 crore mark in the next week.

This will be a phenomenal achievement for a survival thriller-based film. Prithviraj is already getting applause for his performance. This film will be his career best-grossing film. The Goat Life with 150 crores mark may become the 4th highest grossing film beating Premalu. But we will have to see if it goes beyond this mark.

Recently released Malayalam film, Manjummel Boys has hit a jackpot by grossing more than 200 crores worldwide. The film has also become the official Industry hit in Mollywood. The film has attracted Tamil Audiences too and it became a blockbuster hit there. It released in Telugu language and going strong with positive reviews and run as well. But how many of you know that Manjummel Boys is actually the real story of Manjummel Boys?

Manjummel Boys is actually a trip of a group of friends to Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. One guy named Subash from the gang falls into Guna Caves while exploring with friends. His friend then heroically rescues him from the depths which is also beautifully depicted in the film as well. It’s this real-life connection that made Manjummel Boys very different from the rest of the films. Earlier 2018 film was also based on the floods caused in Kerala in 2018. This film too became an Industry hit there which was ultimately broken by the Manjummel Boys.

Manjummel Boys’ popularity increased to a great level that it surpassed Tamil hero Suriya’s highest-grosser in Tamil Nadu. The film has already grossed more than 6 crores in Telugu States and is on its way to grossing 10 crores worldwide.

100 crore Milestone: Small heroes lead over Tier 2 heroes

Back then in those days, only Top stars used to see box office success with big numbers. Grossing 100 crores was always their job but now it seems even Tier 2 heroes have made it look easy. And the upcoming heroes too have started outsmarting already established Tier 2 heroes with recent successes.

Vijay Deverakonda, Nikhil and Nani were the only ones succeeded to score 100 gross worldwide. Already established Heroes like Naga Chaitanya, Ram, Nithiin, Sharwanand, Sai Dharam Tej, and Akhil have failed to do this yet. Varun Tej somehow managed to do it with F2 but it also has Senior hero Venkatesh and can’t be treated as a solo hit. Nikhil on the other hand has managed to cross 100 crores with Karthikeya 2 but it was a Pan India hit. The same happened with Teja Sajja’s Hanuman as well.

Now, Siddhu Jonnalagadda has achieved this with Tillu Square which has already crossed 100 crores and in its way towards 150 crores gross worldwide. This is something great as Tillu Square didn’t have a Pan India-level image. As said Senior Heroes Nagarjuna and Ravi Teja are yet to score this mark. But young heroes from this category have made this possible.

Bahubali Distributers Acquire Devara’s Hindi Rights

Jr. NTR’s action drama film Devara: Part 1 is one of the biggest films of the year. Touted as a two-part saga, the franchise’s first installment is set for a worldwide release on October 10, 2024. The film’s carrying a good buzz since it marks Tarak’s first appearance in a feature film after the worldwide phenomenon RRR (2022).

Bankrolled by actor-producer Kalyan Ram under the banner NTR Arts, it also features Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. Anirudh Ravichander is the composer of Devara‘s background score and songs. Tarak’s remarks on the film at the success meet of Tillu Square (2024) have heightened expectations further.

Even before those statements sink in, the production company has unveiled an exciting update regarding the film’s release. Devara’s Hindi distribution rights are acquired by Karan Johar’s Dharam Productions and AA Films. Coincidentally, they happen to be the exact companies that distributed Bahubali in North India.

And the result, as we all know, was a historical success. Having said that, fans expect Devara to have a grand release in terms of screen count and opening numbers. While the distribution duo can be relied upon for setting up a grand release, the film’s content must go well with the audience. This is a matter of concern since Koratala Shiva, the film’s director, hasn’t made a ‘Pan-Indian’ venture before. Anyway, let’s have our fingers crossed!

Multiplex Chain PVR-INOX Bans Malayalam Films!

PVR is an exceptionally popular multiplex chain in India. Known for their top-notch theatrical standards and exorbitant food prices, it is the No. 1 choice for moviegoers in all major cities. Needless to say, this Mumbai-based company has acquired INOX to become the biggest multiplex chain in the country.

On the other hand, Malayalam cinema is having a dream run at the ticket window, delivering ‘Blockbusters’ one after another. Their latest release, Aadu Jeevitham (2024), is performing well worldwide, shattering multiple box-office records. However, things aren’t smooth between this film fraternity and PVR-INOX.

It all began when a group of individuals from the ‘Kerala Film Producers Association’ established a company called ‘PDC’ and mandated all the exhibitors to purchase digital prints from them. This didn’t go well with PVR-INOX, who eventually refused to follow the mandated direction. As a result, they’ve suspended Malayalam films (including dubbed ones) from being screened at their multiplexes worldwide.

This is certainly a massive blow for Mollywood, especially when a film is performing well at the cinemas. However, PVR-INOX is reportedly in no mood to lift the ban unless the producers association lifts the mandate.

Thalapathy Vijay’s most-awaited film, ‘The Greatest of All Time’ (GOAT) will hit theatres on September 5, 2024. The official release date of the upcoming film was announced by Venkat Prabhu as well as Vijay on social media earlier today. Interestingly, Vijay’s The GOAT was earlier reported to be hitting the screens on 15th August.

Vijay’s GOAT was initially planned for the 15th August release. But as Pushpa 2 was planned for the same date and it’s a much awaited pan Indian film, Venkat Prabhu and co. decided it would be better to come with a slight delay.

Produced by AGS Entertainment, ‘GOAT’ is produced on a massive budget by AGS Entertainment by Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh and Kalpathi S Suresh. The music for The GOAT (Greatest of all time) will be composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The film features a huge star cast including Prashanth, Prabhudheva, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Mohan, Jayaram, Ajmal Ameer and Yogi Babu.The GOAT team is de-aging technology and spending huge money on VFX to showcase Vijay in 18 year old’s role.

Is Vijay Worth a 250 Cr Pay?

Rajinikanth, Vijay, and Ajith are undoubtedly the topmost Kollywood stars demanding the highest remuneration in their industry. But, of late their remunerations have spiked significantly with the massive remuneration figures raising some questions.

Even Telugu star heroes are taking remunerations in the range of 70 Cr – 80 Cr remunerations. Top pan India stars with big markets are taking remuneration in the range of 150 Cr and some share in profits leading to budgeting issues. The massive remuneration Telugu and Tamil stars has been a topic of discussion for quite some time now.

But Vijay has surprised many and quoted 250 Cr remuneration for his next project which will be his last. While it is understandable that the audience will throng to catch Thalapathy for one last time on the big screen. The bigger question remains whether he is worth this astronomical figure or not.

In reality, Vijay has a limited market outside Tamil Nadu and Kerala. His following in Telugu states is not as big as one would expect a top star to have. In Hindi, he has a negligible market and in Telugu, his market is around 10 Cr ( in the absence of a big director).

All his films excluding Leo which was the most hyped film because of LCU and Lokesh Kanagaraj have collected around 300 Cr gross which means around 150 Cr share. While his films are doing 150 Cr theatrical business, quoting 250 Cr remuneration is quite shocking. This is the reason DVV Danayya opted out and practically no producer will okay with this.

Prabhas To Clash With Kamal Hassan!

Yes, you heard it right! We’re not talking about the on-screen faceoff in Kalki: 2898 AD, but a clash between the films of these two superstars. ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Hassan’s Indian-2 is arriving at cinemas this June; an official announcement has already been made, and the stage is being set for a grand worldwide release. Touted as a direct sequel to the cult classic Indian (1996), it is made on a lavish budget with an aim to crack Telugu and Hindi markets alongside Tamil.

The film will have a grand release in Telugu (titled Bharateeyudu-2) as well, for two reasons. While the first one is that the franchise’s first installment was a ‘Blockbuster’, the second is that Kamal Hassan’s last venture, Vikram (2022), performed exceptionally well in Telugu. All in all, Shankar’s Indian-2 is a massive film heading for release this June. On the other hand, Prabhas’s Kalki: 2898 AD has wrapped up the filming part, and the makers are reportedly planning for a release at the end of May or June. Clearly, it is very likely to clash with Indian-2.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, this mega-budgeted sci-fi action drama also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, and Kamal Hassan (in an extended cameo). Both of these films are targeted at a wide range of audiences across languages, so tough competition between them is inevitable. Having said that, it’ll be interesting to see which one of these films rakes in more money.

Targeted Negative Campaign On ‘Dil’ Raju’s Films!

There’s one trend that’s been in extensive use in Telugu cinema lately: killing a film by spreading extensive hate. Be it through fake ratings on Book My Show or harsh trolls on social media, this trend has been fairly successful in affecting films’ advance bookings and eventually footfalls. ‘Super Star’ Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Karam is a blatant victim of this trend, and most recently, Vijay Devarakonda’s Family Star joined this elite list.

As you can clearly see, only a selected group of films are being targeted, not all. If decoded further, it can be understood that these are films that ace producer ‘Dil’ Raju has invested money in. Family Star is an outright production of Raju’s Sree Venkateshwara Films, while Guntur Karam‘s Nizam and Uttarandhra’s distribution rights were acquired by the same company, owned by the same individual.

Clearly, a deliberate negativity is being spread on films bankrolled by ‘Dil’ Raju. This prominent producer and distributor must surely be aware of these acts and should take legal action against the culprits so his future endeavours won’t fall prey to them.
