‘Dil’ Raju’s Latest Plan To Recover ‘Family Star’ Losses

Vijay Devarakonda’s action drama Family Star (2024) was a commercial failure, to say the least. Obviously, ‘Dil’ Raju, the film’s producer, incurred heavy losses because of it. According to the latest reports, the ace producer has come up with a unique strategy to recover his investment to some extent.

Usually, the films that flop at the box office have an early digital premiere on OTT platforms; Family Star is heading towards the same thing but with a twist, which is to be available in Tamil and Telugu on a rental basis. This way, the losses can be compensated to a certain extent. It must be seen how this plan turns out.

Directed by Parasuram Petla, it stars Mrunal Thakur as the female lead; the film’s music is composed by Gopi Sundar. It marks Vijay‘s collaboration with the director after the blockbuster Geetha Govindam (2018).

‘Super Star’ Mahesh Babu’s action drama film Guntur Kaaram (2024) was an average grosser at the box office. Written and directed by ‘Guruji’ Trivikram Srinivas, it also stars Sreeleela, Meenakshi Chowdary, and Ramya Krishna in key roles. The film’s music, composed by Thaman, received mixed reception from fans and audiences.

One track, however, gathered public attention for multiple reasons: Kurchi Madathapetti. An outright mass number, the song initially attracted widespread criticism for the cuss word involved. But eventually, it turned into an internet sensation for showcasing Mahesh in an ‘Oora Mass’ avatar.

Expectedly, the video song clocked massive viewership on YouTube in no time, thus becoming the 2nd fastest Telugu song to achieve the 200-million-view mark after ‘Oo Antava’ from Pushpa: The Rise (2021); Kurchi Madathapetti achieved this landmark in a span of 78 days.

Preity Zinta is a notable actress in Hindi cinema; the bubbly 49-year-old actor has also starred in a couple of Telugu films, such as Mahesh Babu‘s Raja Kumarudu (1999). Besides acting, she has also ventured into business by investing in a Mohali-based IPL team called ‘Kings XI Punjab’ (now renamed ‘Punjab Kings’).

In this context, a rumour regarding her remarks on Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has gone viral on the internet; according to it, Zinta stated that she would bet her life to get Rohit as captain of her team. Following an excessive spread of this information, the actor has responded via her official Twitter handle.

Calling the rumours ‘Baseless’ Zinta slammed the media houses for spreading misinformation and requested that they not do it anymore. She went on to say that she holds great respect for Rohit as well as Shikhar Dhawan, the franchise’s current skipper.

Premalu Sequel Officially Announced!

Keerthy Suresh Latest Film ‘Siren 108’ – Now Streaming

Siren (2024) is an action thriller film starring Jayan Ravi and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles. Helmed by debutant Antony Bhagyaraj, it also stars Anupama Parameshwaran and Yogi Babu in key supporting roles. Released amidst good buzz on the Valentine’s Day weekend, the film received positive reviews and emerged as a ‘Hit’.

For reasons unknown, the film didn’t have a Telugu release, but fortunately, Siren is now available for streaming on Diseny and Hotstar in all the Indian languages, including Telugu. Also marketed as Siren 108, the film narrates the story of an ambulance driver who gets imprisoned after being framed for the murder of a powerful man. After fourteen long years, he gets released and vows to seek revenge.

Home Movie Makers bankrolled this film, while Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Gaint Movies distributed it worldwide. G. V. Prakash Kumar composed the songs, while Sam C. S. handled the background score.

Devara – A Huge Risk For NTR

It’s not bad to dream, but you also have to consider what’s realistic. This quote perfectly concludes the hype around Devara, an action drama film starring ‘Young Tiger’ NTR, Janhvi Kapoor, and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. Made on a massive budget, this is touted as a two-part saga, with its first installment, Devara: Part One, heading for release in October 2024.

While the film certainly has the potential to emerge as a big ‘Hit’, the economics its makers are dealing with look too ambitious to say the least. Admittedly, Tarak hasn’t received much recognition from S. S. Rajamouli’s epic action drama RRR (2022) in non-Telugu markets. To be more precise, the non-Telugu audience barely knows him. Additionally, the film’s director, Koratala Shiva, is not a ‘Pan-Indian’ filmmaker like Rajamouli.

Devara‘s theatrical rights in non-Telugu markets are valued at INR 100 crore; this is way too much for an actor of NTR’s calibre. The film must receive rave reviews followed by an excellent box-office run to achieve breakeven. Even in Telugu, the film was sold for INR 120 crore, which is again ambitious. Tarak’s career-highest grosser, Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava (2018), collected a distributor share of INR 85 crore; in fact, NTR is the only top-league Telugu star who doesn’t have a 100-crore-share film under his name.

Even with positive reviews, Tarak’s films struggle to perform in the long run due to the actor’s lack of pull among family audiences. All these clearly suggest that NTR is risking his stardom in search of expanding his market. Overall, Devara must mint a worldwide gross of INR 400 crore to emerge as a ‘Hit’, which is an extremely big task considering Tarak’s market.

Tillu Square OTT streaming date is officially out

Tillu Square starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Anupama Parameswaran rocked the box office. The film achieved unanimous positive talk after its release and sky was the limit for its box office performance afterwards. Tillu Square went on to gross 100 crores worldwide creating a record for mid-range films. Now, Tillu Square OTT streaming date is officially out.

Tillu Square will stream on Netflix on 26th April. It will be available in all languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi as well. The film recently grossed more than 125 crores worldwide and may touch the 130 crores mark as well. So the film will see its last weekend box office performance this week. It will be streaming from the next week.

Tillu Square suffered a slight competition with Family Star starring Vijay Deverakonda but saw no impact with Family Star becoming a box office bomb.
