Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani is the latest crime comedy from the Telugu film industry. Produced by Sivaji himself and presented by ETV WIN, the film was initially supposed to be released directly on OTT but arrived in theaters on March 6.
Story
Shriram (Sivaji) is an honest Panchayat Secretary who never involves himself in corruption or bows down to anyone, be it an MLA or Minister. His family consists of wife Uttara (Laya) and son Mithil (Rohan). He constantly gets frustrated with their chaotic behavior.
As fate would have it, Uttara and Mithil become involved in the murder case of local SI Vikram (Prince). The rest of the story follows how Shriram handles the situation and tries to save his wife and son from the murder charges.
Performances
Sivaji does his best to carry the film on his shoulders, but the weak script doesn’t give him opportunities to showcase his talent. Laya tries to make an impact but her character lacks solid moments or proper writing.
Sivaji and Laya’s chemistry remains intact — they look good as a lead pair even after so many years apart. Unfortunately, they needed a much better script to excel.
Rohan’s character doesn’t work at all and comes across as annoying rather than endearing. Dhanraj and Prince are adequate, while Ali, Kadambari Kiran, and Sharath Lohitashwa deliver okay performances.
Analysis
ETV WIN has carved a solid reputation among industry and viewers. Everyone believed that any movie backed by the platform would be good.
Director Sudhir Sriram’s Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani was expected to be a solid content-driven movie — a nice crime comedy with emotional touches. The execution fails to match the intent.
The opening sequence where the protagonist describes his wife and son’s chaotic behavior seems promising. Sadly, the film doesn’t progress as expected.
Except for Sivaji and Laya’s chemistry, nothing really works. Rohan, who impressed audiences in the 90s biopic, fails to repeat the magic here. His character appears irritating rather than innocent or funny.
The crime angle raises hopes for the second half, but the film continues in the same random mode. Comic moments fail to deliver, adding to the boredom.
The concept of a family getting involved with a dead body recalls Drishyam, but the comparison ends there. Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani is neither an emotional crime drama like Drishyam nor does it provide hilarious moments.
Positives
- Sivaji and Laya’s on-screen chemistry
- A couple of comedy scenes that work
Negatives
- Lifeless characters with poor development
- Dragged screenplay that tests patience
- Most comedy scenes fall flat
- Silly execution throughout
Verdict
Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani attempts to mix crime, emotions, and comedy but fails to engage except for a few scattered funny moments. Sivaji and Laya try to carry the film but cannot overcome the weak script, poor comedy, and ineffective narration. Watch it only for the lead pair’s chemistry.
