Boney Kapoor fired back at Baahubali producer Shobu Yarlagadda during an interview with Komal Nahta, challenging his claims that his late wife, Sridevi, had made outrageous demands to join S. S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali movie.
Boney Kapoor Says that the producers of Baahubali misled Rajamouli about Sridevi’s demands
“The film with Rajamouli, Baahubali, didn’t happen. But I still have a message sent by Rajamouli, stating that he was a fan of Sri as an actor, but after interacting with her, his respect for her has increased manifold because of the inputs that she had given (for Baahubali).”
According to Boney Kapoor, the producer created a misunderstanding regarding the whole incident. “Rajamouli visited us, and we talked for a long time. He left the room during the commercial discussion. The producer offered her less money than she earned for English Vinglish (2012). My wife was not a struggling actor. Casting her would benefit the producer in Hindi and Tamil markets. Why would she join his film if he disrespects that? The producer probably didn’t inform Rajamouli about this.
Maybe the producer told Rajamouli that she requested an entire hotel floor and entourage. All we asked for was to plan the main/long schedules around the children’s breaks/holidays so they can be part of the shoot.”
What Rajamouli Said About Sridevi?
In his old interview, Director Rajamouli said that he could not board Sridevi due to potential budget increases. He said that along with a fee of Rs 8 crore, the late actress demanded expensive hotel accommodations and business class travel for her and four companions, along with a percentage in the Hindi version.
He also said that he felt good that Sridevi was not a part of the film, as Ramyakrishna did a fantastic job as Sivagami. SSR said that he, along with producers, once thought of agreeing to some demands of Sridevi, but in the end, they decided against it.
After the release of Baahubali 2, Sridevi, the late actress, responded to the issue and refuted Rajamouli’s claims in her last interview. She mentioned she avoids troubling producers and would not have done over 300 films.
She also gave examples of legendary directors like K. Raghavendra Rao, who worked with her for nearly 25 films, and even big producers like Ashwini Dutt did multiple films with her. She said that if she were an actress who made such unreasonable demands, those people would not have continued with her.
Sridevi also said that she is the wife of a producer, Boney Kapoor, and would never hurt a producer, as she knows their struggles. She also said that she doesn’t like to talk about such issues because someone has already acted in the character.
In the end, she said that she was hurt by all of this fiasco, but despite what has happened between them, she wishes that Rajamouli makes more great films than Baahubali.
