Akhanda 2 Finds Breathing Space: Will Collections Rise?

0

The much-awaited Hollywood biggie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, directed by James Cameron, arrived in theaters today, and its not-so-great response can be an advantage to the Balakrishna starrer Akhanda 2, which still has to do significant numbers to be a safe venture for the buyers.

We have seen in the past where a film, which does not get much collection during the first week, scores well in the second week or so because of another film’s failure. Now, the same thing can happen with Akhanda 2, as Avatar: Fire and Ash did not receive the expected appreciation or hype from audiences.

Now, it has to be seen whether Balakrishna and Boyapati Srinu’s Akhanda sequel can get considerable numbers by using the advantage of Avatar 3’s below-par response. With no notable Telugu film releases this weekend, Akhanda 2 will be the only choice for Telugu audiences in theaters. The film needs to capitalize on this advantage and show strong growth in collections, as most buyers are still at around 50% recovery.

Tollywood Overestimates Avatar Fire and Ash

0

James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, the much-awaited Hollywood big-budget film, has been released worldwide today. Because of the strong brand value of the Avatar franchise, no Tollywood films were released this weekend.

Avatar (Part 1) was a massive blockbuster and created a huge brand for the franchise. Avatar: The Way of Water (Part 2) was released with enormous hype due to the success of the first film. But it failed to match the content quality of Avatar Part 1. Still, because of the hype, the film earned huge box office numbers in India, especially in the Telugu states along with worldwide.

As a result, trade circles considered Avatar 2 a big success in India and Tollywood. But in reality, the film damaged the franchise more than expected, something the trade failed to recognize. Now, Avatar: Fire and Ash (Part 3) has been released today, but it is not carrying the expected buzz. The trade expected it to perform like a massive pan-India blockbuster, but the advance bookings are more like those of a medium-budget film.

Tollywood overestimated Avatar 3 and wasted a valuable release date. Films like Mowgli could have easily released today, but the makers avoided the date due to fear of Avatar 3, not Akhanda 2. Because of this, Mowgli released last weekend and faced a major impact, eventually failing at the box office.

Several films are scheduled for a December 25 release, including Champion, Eesha, Dandora, Shambhala, Patang, and Vrushabha, as they did not want to clash with Avatar 3. However, at least one or two of these films could have released today, as Avatar 3 is not a film that attracts all audiences and is releasing with limited buzz.

Actor Nandu’s Psycho Siddharth, scheduled for a January 1 release, could also have arrived today, but the makers avoided the date due to fear of Avatar 3.

Overall, due to overestimating Avatar: Fire and Ash, Tollywood has missed out on a strong release date.

Pathaan, Jawan, Pushpa 2 Next Dhurandhar

Many films from Indian cinema have collected more than ₹1000 crore worldwide when all language versions are combined. But only a few films have achieved ₹1000 crore gross with a single Hindi version and Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, is all set to become the fourth film to do so.

Pathaan was the first film to reach this milestone, followed by Jawan, which also starred Shah Rukh Khan’. After these two, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 also joined this elite club with its sensational performance in the Hindi market.

Now, after these three films, Dhurandhar is all set to enter the club of the Hindi films that collected ₹1000 crore. The Hindi version of Dhurandhar has already collected around ₹700 crore worldwide and is steadily moving towards the ₹1000 crore mark.

Pushpa 2 and Jawan have collected around ₹1050 crore gross in the Hindi version and are currently the No.1 grossers. Dhurandhar is on track to break this record and emerge as the all-time No.1, and it has also registered the biggest second week ever in the Hindi belts and is expected to continue the same momentum.

Akhanda 2 1st Week Box Office Collections

0

After a below-average opening weekend, Akhanda 2 witnessed a sharp drop in collections on weekdays. In its first week, the film collected around ₹57 crore share worldwide, including GST from the Andhra and Nizam regions. The worldwide gross for the first week stands at approximately ₹97 crore.

Initially, the film was sold at a business value of ₹125 crore. This was later revised to ₹110 crore, and finally, the producers received around ₹95 crore from distributors. At any of these business values, the film is turning out to be a major loss venture, as Akhanda 2’s collections disappointed everyone.

Akhanda 2 was expected to take Balakrishna to a new level, but shockingly, the film has broken Balakrishna’s success streak, as well as the successful combination of Balakrishna and director Boyapati Srinu. It also appears to have brought an end to the Akhanda franchise.

Actor Srikanth’s son, Meka Roshan, is gearing up for his big break with the upcoming film Champion. The theatrical trailer was launched by Mega Power Star Ram Charan, and it has immediately raised expectations as it is impressively cut and packed with emotion.

The story, as suggested by the trailer, is set against the backdrop of Bairanpally, a region that suffered greatly during the brutal rule of the Razakars in the Nizam era. The filmmakers appear to have blended a love story with fictional elements inspired by real historical events.

Can Champion propel Roshan’s career to new heights?

Varanasi Makes History

0

Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s massive film, Varanasi, has already gathered a gigantic hype among audiences, and now it makes history as the first-ever trailer released in 1.43 IMAX format on a digital platform, which is a global first across all film industries.

This surely makes for an exciting development, as the standards of Telugu cinema and international cinema will reach new heights. The fans are currently going gaga with this news and sharing it on social media.

Recently, Rajamouli had an online interview-kind-of conversation with James Cameron, the director of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which made many discuss his movie with Mahesh Babu, the globe-trotting adventure.

Now, Varanasi is creating history by becoming the first-ever trailer released in 1.43 IMAX format, which will make it more popular worldwide.

OTT Crash Turning Single-Part Films into Multi-Part Franchises

0

In today’s market, even for films with big stars and massive combinations, OTT platforms are offering deals only in the ₹125–150 crore range. Unless a film is truly exceptional, this has become a major reason why producers see huge risks in spending ₹500–600 crore on a single-part movie. To reduce that risk, many are now turning their projects into multi-part films or franchises.

Even if a film grosses more than ₹800 crore in theaters, it does not guarantee breakeven when the budget crosses ₹600 crore. Producers often expect OTT deals of over ₹250 crore, but platforms are offering only half of that amount, and they are linking payments to theatrical performance as well.

Because of this, many films that were initially planned as single-part releases are being split into multiple parts. If the story is strong and has scope, franchises can work well and deliver big results. But there have also been failures where audiences felt the story could have been told in one film, and splitting it into parts was unnecessary.

This shift in OTT negotiations and deals is driving producers to make sequels and multi-part movies. But when decisions are made purely for economics and not for storytelling, it risks backfiring and disappointing audiences.

Akhanda 2: Sitara Ghattamaneni Was the First Choice

0

The main reason for the conflict in the sequel, Akhanda 2, revolves around the character of Janani. In the original film, Akhanda (2021), Aghora promises Janani he will return if she’s in danger. Therefore, for such an important role, the makers of Akhanda 2 considered casting Sitara Ghattamaneni, Mahesh Babu’s daughter.

The news that Mahesh Babu’s daughter, Sitara Ghattamaneni, was the first choice for the role of Balakrishna’s daughter Janani in Akhanda 2 is currently going viral on social media. But the makers’ idea did not work out, and later, they also tried to bring daughters of Tamil actor Suriya and actress Laya, but eventually, it went to Bollywood actress Harshaali Malhotra.

Sitara missing the Janani character is good only because she is the daughter of Mahesh Babu; the fans and audiences always want her to debut with a great role and a successful film.

While Janani’s character is crucial to Akhanda 2, it unfortunately lacks performance scope. The characterization also seems exaggerated, portraying a 17-year-old as a top DRDO scientist with an IQ of 226 who even discovers a vaccine for a deadly virus. These aspects didn’t resonate well with the audience.

Behind the Land Rover Gift: Pawan Kalyan and Sujeeth’s OG Story

0

A couple of days ago, Pawan Kalyan had gifted a Land Rover Defender to director Sujeeth, who made OG, and it resulted in many discussions about why the actor gave such a luxurious gift to the filmmaker. The real reason for the gift is out now.

When the producer of the film, They Call Him OG, declined to approve a Japan schedule, director Sujeeth went ahead with the plan using his own money, even selling his Land Rover Defender to make the schedule happen. Pawan Kalyan learned about this sacrifice during the dubbing stage, and he was deeply impressed and decided to gift Sujeeth the same car, the Land Rover Defender, as a gesture of appreciation and respect for his dedication.

A few months prior to the film’s release, Track Tollywood reported the same story, but the team denied it.
