Tollywood Cracks Down on HD Piracy Leaks

Piracy has been hurting all industries in Indian cinema for a very long time, but recently it started to hurt more as the HD versions of the films are being pirated on the release day itself. Films like Game Changer, Thandel, and the latest MAD Square were affected by the piracy. But the good thing is, Tollywood cracks down on the HD piracy leaks.

Before a few years, piracy meant screen recording of the films, but recently the things have been changed. This year starting marked the piracy HD print leak of big film Game Changer and even the recent releases Robimhood. MAD Sqaure’s HD prints came on online on the release date itself.

The Telugu producers also started addressing this issue one by one. Producer Naga Vamsi, in his latest press interaction, said that they have found a lead about this. The thing is, the piracy print is coming from overseas countries’ censor print. Tollywood cracks down on the HD piracy leaks.

Vamsi also mentioned that they will talk to overseas distributors and do some investigation on this issue and he also mentioned about Dil Raju who said that all producers should take a bigger stand in unity to control the piracy with government’s support.

If the piracy continues like this it will do more damage to the cinema industry. The producers are also in certain situation now where they have to get the rid of the piracy as soon as possible.

As said above, the HD print of the Telugu films seems to be coming from overseas prints only. They must need to put an end point for this. Already, the audiences are not coming to the theaters because of OTT platforms, and now with the addition of piracy, cinema halls are seeing big struggles.

Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam Set for OTT Release – Date Inside

Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s ‘Lal Salaam’ released in February 2024 failed to reach its expectations. The movie had a low box performance ,much in contrast to its hype prior to the release . Despite Rajinikanth’s extended appearance, the film did not fare well, resulting in large losses for its producers, Lyca Productions.

Following its theatrical run, people eagerly anticipated its OTT release, particularly since Netflix initially bought the digital rights. However, due to several complications, the agreement was apparently canceled. To add to the uncertainty, the film’s production team issued multiple comments following its release, admitting that some footage had been lost and that critical editing adjustments were still pending. These revelations from the director created additional worries.

With no updates for months, fans remained hopeful for an OTT release. Now, after over a year, there is finally good news ,’Lal Salaam’ is set to premiere on Sun NXT on April 4th. This announcement has reignited interest in the film, giving viewers another chance to experience it.

Despite its struggles, ‘Lal Salaam”s arrival on OTT may help it find a new audience. Whether the film gains appreciation in its digital run remains to be seen, but its long wait is finally coming to an end.

Mass Jathara postponed: New release date revealed

Mass Jathara starring Ravi Teja is directed by debutant, Bhanu and Produced by Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments. The film also stars Sree Leela in the female lead role and was planned as a Sankranthi release next year. But due to a minor accident on sets, the film has been pushed to May.

L2: Empuraan faces 24 cuts in revised censor

L2: Empuraan starring Mohanlal released amidst great hype and expectations among the audiences and fans. The film, however, ended in a major controversy with a few of its scenes getting criticism online leading to a big backlash. The team was alerted with this and decided to go for a re-censor.

Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, has almost completed shooting, but still, the makers moved the release to 2026 Pongal. Because the makers decided to delay the release, Jana Nayagan’s OTT rights have been sold for a record price.

The main reason for the film to move to 2026 is the OTT deal, as the two digital giants, Prime Video and Netflix, have already locked their slots for this year and are unable to afford a higher price for other films.

All the films, irrespective of big or small budgets, are facing the heat from the digital deals. Jana Nayagan is one among them. Considering both theatrical and non-theatrical business, the makers made a good decision of moving the release to Pongal 2026.

Now it will have big theatrical business as well as big non-theatrical business. Vijay’s Jana Nayagan’s OTT rights have been sold for a record price. In the non-theatrical business, all languages’ digital rights are said to be bought by Prime Video for a sensational price of 121 Cr, which is a very big deal for the makers.

As it is the last film of Vijay’s and it is getting released during the Pongal season, theatrically, Jana Nayagan is expected to have a record business, and talking about the film, it is not a complete remake of Bhagavanth Kesari.

This weekend, two straight Telugu films, Robinhood and MAD Sqaure, were released in theaters, along with the Malayalam sequel L2: Empuraan and Chiyaan Vikram’s Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2. However, on the Ugadi-Eid Weekend, there was only one blockbuster: MAD Square, and the other three movies became disasters.

Robinhood became a big disaster at the box office.

Robinhood was limited to around 10 crore gross collection in 4 days and ended up as a disaster. Whereas MAD Square became a sensational blockbuster with close to 50 Cr in gross in 4 days.

Empuraan and Veera Dheera Sooran fail to impress Telugu Audiences

The biggest Mollywood film, Empuraan’s Telugu version, did not work well, while the Malayalam version did very well in Hyderabad City. However, the Telugu version was a failure. Despite getting positive WOM, Chiyaan Vikram’s Veera Dheera Sooran failed to attract audiences as they did not show any interest in watching it, and it did not add any numbers in Telugu.

Sardar 2: A Tale of Two Missions

On March 31, the makers of Sardar 2, starring Karthi and directed by PS Mithran, unveiled a special prologue teaser. Director Mithran states that Sardar 2 is a tale of two missions.

The teaser shows Chinese authorities trying to enter a monastery looking for a ‘delegate.’ Karthi, the spy, fights off swordsmen before meeting their boss, Cheng. Cheng remarks, “A great destructive power approaches your land, Sardar. Every intelligence agency is after him,” showing SJ Suryah as the antagonist Black Dagger.

According to Mithran, the film is both a prequel and a sequel. Sardar’s first mission in the flashback about water and Sardar’s final mission in the present portion will have the same importance in this film. That makes Karthi’s Sardar 2: A Tale of Two Missions.

He also said that it is a huge Canvas film, and Karthi and he discussed this story for 45 minutes on a flight journey. The prologue introduces the villain of the film, who is SJ Suryah.

Karthi said that he was surprised by the scale and grandeur of the film; Sardar 2 deals with a much scarier issue, and it will have a grand presentation. The team did not announce the release date, but the buzz is that it will mostly arrive this Diwali.

Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Yogi Babu, and Rajisha Vijayan play key roles in the film. Sam CS is the film’s music composer.

MAD Square Turns Clean Blockbuster, Breakeven in Just 4 Days

MAD Square, the latest comedy sequel, performed superbly at the box office in its first weekend. Though the film did not receive as big reviews as it expected, the film showed strong consistency. MAD Square turns into a clean blockbuster, as it achieves breakeven in just 4 days.

Directed by Kalyan Shankar, the film had a tremendous extended weekend at the box office. The film’s theatrical rights are valued at 25 Cr, and the film has collected a 25 Cr share in just 4 days, with the gross being closer to 50 Cr.

So, in that way, MAD Square turns into a clean blockbuster, as it achieves breakeven in just 4 days. All the involved parties are in profits, and the film also became one of the biggest blockbusters of this year. 

The film is expected to have a good run at the box office at least for another two weeks. It has no competition this weekend as there are no notable new releases. So, MAD Square will be the No. 1 choice for audiences.

Moreover, the hilarious film proves that the sequel craze is still intact among audiences. The film opens with mixed, decent WOM and reviews, but the revenue is much more similar to a huge blockbuster film. The film is expected to do more than 75 Cr gross in its full run.
