Mathu Vadalara 2 Smashes $ 1 Million At US Box-Office!

Crime comedy Mathu Vadalara 2 (2024) has once again reiterated the fact that overseas belt is the hub for small and medium-budget films to rake in big amounts. Following excellent advance bookings for premieres, the film performed well in its first two weeks of theatrical run.

Yesterday, Mathu Vadalara 2 got past the million-dollar mark at the US box office. Considering its modest budget, this is a laudable achievement for the entire cast and crew. Overall, the film’s worldwide gross stands at an impressive INR 30.1 crore.

A direct sequel to Mathu Vadalara (2019), the film features actors Sri Simha Koduri and Satya reprising their roles from the first installment. Mythri Movie Makers have funded this film that stars Faria Abdullah of Jathi Ratnalu (2021) fame as the female lead.

Devara Misses Out on Major Hype Boost

Pre-release events are a great way to boost a movie’s buzz and create expectations. This becomes even more important in the case of a pan-India biggie starring an A-lister. Devara is one such film that would have benefitted from a pre-release event. Unfortunately, for the fans, this didn’t work out.

Fans were hoping for 2 things- NTR’s speech and Anirudh’s performance. Both didn’t happen and the release trailer came out without any strong buzz. Devara’s Pre-release event got cancelled due to organisational failure leaving the fans frustrated.

It has been six years since NTR was last seen in a solo film and thousands of fans flocked to Hyderabad to catch Tarak in person and experience the euphoria of Devara’s pre-release event. Now it’s confirmed that the team completely skipped the event and NTR flew to USA.

Anirudh’s performance and NTR’s appearance on the stage were missed, which is a huge setback for the film. The hype these two would have created at the pre-release event would have amplified the hype for the movie to another level and it’s a missed opportunity now.

Shankar criticised Devara or Kanguva?

Today, Director Shankar tweeted about the usage of certain excerpts from a novel he took rights from. This raised many eyebrows as Shankar mentioned that a recently released trailer had references to this novel based on Vel Paari. No one understood which film that Shankar was referring to. Many netizens want to know if Shankar criticised Devara or Kanguva.

Shankar felt that a recent film was using many scenes from the novel. But he didn’t mention the name of the film. Devara’s release trailer was released today and Shankar’s tweet also came after this which made netizens feel that it was Devara. But many others told that it could also be Kanguva. No one knows which film Shankar was addressing. The Director has also warned of copyright infringement if they proceed with the novel’s adaptation.

Devara is all set and slated for release this friday and Kanguva is almost in the finishing stage. These words of Shankar may pose a threat to the film makers after their film release. So we have to see which film Shankar was referring to after their release. However many feel that Devara’s story and set up doesn’t resemble the novel which was also a Tamil one. So was it Kanguva or some other film?

Chiranjeevi name in the Guinness Book of World Records

Tollywood Actor Chiranjeevi has made Tollywood and Indian Film Industry proud again. The Actor also surprised the fans and audience today with a great occasion. Chiranjeevi’s name has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most prolific film star in Indian Film Industry.

The award is also presented for Chiranjeevi’s dance performance in 156 films for over 537 songs with 24000 dance moves in career spanning of 46 years. The Actor looked very happy evidently after receiving the award memento. He also said that he had never expected to have his name listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.

What was more interesting is that Bollywood Actor Aamir Khan was invited as the Chief Guest for the occasion. He even praised the Actor for his services to Tollywood. Many other directors who collaborated with Chiranjeevi for many blockbuster hits were also a part of this event.

On the workfront, Chiranjeevi is currently working for Vishwambhara directed by M. Vassishta, fame of Bimbisaara. The film is also scheduled for release during next year’s Sankranthi.

With no big releases this weekend and a week to go for Devara’s theatrical releases, the movie theatres have been running to extremely low occupancies. However, here’s som good news for film lovers. This weekend there are a bunch of exciting movie releases on OTT. Let’s take a look at them.

Aha

Maruthinagar Subramanyam– Starring Rao Ramesh in the titular role, Maruthinagar Subramanyam is a comedy-drama that stars Ankith Koyya and Harshavardhan in key roles. The film was released to positive talk and Rao Ramesh’s performance is the film’s
major highlight.

Tiragabadara Sami– Raj Tarun and Malvi Malhotra starter Tiragabadara Sami is another fresh OTT release on Aha. The film was released in theatres last month and became a major box-office failure.

Fast X – The much-awaited action blockbuster Fast X is now finally in front of the audience. Starring the likes of Vin Diesel, Alan Ritchson, and Jason Mamoa in key roles. Fast X became a major box-office hit on its theatrical release. The action blockbuster is available in English, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.

No More Bets – The critically acclaimed Chinese blockbuster No More Bets is another new international release of the week. The crime thriller follows the lives of two working professionals who become a victim of human trafficking.

Disney + Hotstar

Vaazha – The Malayalam drama Vaazha starring Basil Joseph and Siju Sunny among others is available to stream on Disney + Hotstar in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi

Amazon Prime Video

Pekamedalu – Vinod Kishan and Anoosha Krishnan starter Pekamedalu is another latest Telugu release on Amazon Prime Video. The comedy-drama was released last month to critical acclaim and now it needs to be seen how the OTT audience receives it.

Pechi – Tamil horror film Pechi is another Amazon Prime release of the week. The film was released last month and was a box office failure.

Surapaanam (ETV Win) – Released in 2022, Surapaanam is a fantasy comedy written and directed by Sampath Kumar. It’s available to stream on the ETV Win platform

Saala (Aha Tamil) -Tamil action film Saala starring Aruldoss and Dheeran in key roles. Saala was a box-office failure and received mixed verdict from the critics.

Devara smart runtime move before release

Many films which released recently had a long runtime close to 3 hours. The makers looked very confident about their output and felt there was no need of any chopping before the release. But as the film becomes successful, they immediately trim many scenes bringing down the runtime. This lengthy runtime becomes a serious threat for the film’s prospects these days.

Some films even with a lengthy runtime impress the Audience. But this happens rarely. Now, Devara starring NTR is gearing up for release on 27th September worldwide. The film’s runtime was first locked around for 178 minutes which is just short of 3 hours by 2 minutes. But this runtime is learnt to have been trimmed now. The final version is said to be crispy with a runtime of 165 minutes which is 2 hours and 45 minutes. This is by far a better one.

The release of second trailer is being planned at the pre-release event on 22nd September. The team hopes to double the hype and expectations with the second trailer. Music Director, Anirudh is also gearing up to rock the floor with his live concert. Fans and Audience have been eagerly waiting to see this concert.
