0

PVR INOX has launched India’s first dine-in cinema at M5 ECity Mall in Bengaluru, featuring an 8-screen multiplex. This innovative idea lets moviegoers enjoy the chef-prepared meals from the comfort of their seats, blending entertainment, delicious food, and relaxation into a luxurious experience.

It’s a fresh take on movie-watching, and this trend is expected to spread to other major cities soon, as India has a large section of audiences who love to watch movies in theaters.

The launch of PVR Inox’s first dine-in cinema in India has received mixed reactions

Many people are thrilled about PVR Inox introducing India’s first dine-in cinema, viewing it as a move toward luxurious cinema experiences, while others worry it could diminish the classic theater atmosphere.

For some, the joy of watching a film lies in the undisturbed atmosphere, and they worry that in-seat dining could be distracting. Of course, it is a fascinating innovation that caters to changing audience preferences, but it’s important that theaters also preserve the classic movie experience for those who value it.

Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office: Strong 1st Week Collections Trend

0

Even though Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 did not have initial momentum due to low pre-buzz, the film finished its 1st week on a strong note at the box office as the WOM was positive.

The film sees superb collections on the first weekend, and even on the weekdays, the film is holding good numbers across all territories. After a 4-day extended weekend, the spiritual action drama collected around 115 Cr gross for the next 3 weekdays, which is an excellent trend and promises a long run at the box office.

If we go area-wise early trend, Karnataka is looking at 120 Cr in 1st week collections, while the Telugu states’ number is at 73 Cr, Kerala at 31 Cr, Tamil Nadu at 34 Cr, and North India at 120 Cr, taking the total 1st week India gross to around 377 Cr.

After a strong performance in the 1st week at the box office, Kantara Chapter 1’s overall worldwide gross will be around 447 Cr, as the overseas gross is likely to be around 70 Cr. The actuals may vary a bit, but it will be a minimal difference.

Now the film needs a bigger 2nd weekend, and it needs to aim to cross the 600 Cr mark by this weekend. At this current trend the film is looking to settle at around 700 Cr in its full run, but if the run continues to be strong, it can go near the 800 Cr milestone.

Producers Struggle to Sell OTT Rights

0

During corona time the OTT platforms changed the South Indian film industries’ dynamics as they bought films for massive prices. Down the line five years, the situation has changed, and now the producers are struggling to sell the OTT rights of films.

Because of the sudden surge in the digital market during the COVID-19 period, the industries thought it would be a golden chance to recover the budgets irrespective of results, and with this, the budgets of the movies and stars’ remunerations also got increased.

The Rise and Fall of OTT Platforms effect movie production in South Indian Film Industry

But the rise of OTT unexpectedly decreased the theatrical performance of films, followed by the decline in the satellite rights and dubbing rights.

Later, even the OTT platforms also started reducing the prices, and due to this change, many projects that were announced were shelved. As a result, producers are finding it tough to sell the OTT rights for films.

The demand and importance of OTT platforms have significantly increased in recent years

This issue has been a big concern over the last few years, and Kollywood analyst Sreedhar Pillai from the Tamil industry has made an analysis of the entire issue.

Leading OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and JioHotstar have introduced stricter rules when buying digital rights from film producers. They are now less interested in star-driven films and are offering only 40–50% of what they paid in 2024.

Instead, they are focusing more on small-budget films with fresh and unique content. As a result, many big Tamil hero films are struggling to sell their OTT rights, making it harder for producers to start new projects.

Producers face tough times as the OTT platforms bring new rules

Another major change is that platforms now demand official box office reports for the first 25 days of a film’s release. These reports must come from certified auditors or chartered accountants and not from social media or unofficial sources.

If the collections are lower than expected, the platforms can reduce the payment amount. Also, unlike before, the final payment is made only 60 days after the film’s OTT release. If any legal or political issues arise after streaming, the producer must bear the risk. Some big films with political themes are still waiting to sell their OTT rights.

Additionally, platforms are now offering deals for exclusive one-year streaming rights at much lower prices compared to earlier long-term deals. These new conditions may lead to a drop in star salaries, as streaming rights no longer hold the same value they once did.

Kiran Abbavaram Makes Headlines

0

Kiran Abbavaram’s K-Ramp is set to hit theaters this Diwali, but the young actor is making headlines for the wrong reasons as his comments about the Tamil release in a recent interview have gone viral on social media.

If we observe, even during last year, the actor raised the same point as his film KA, which was a straight Telugu release and got fewer theaters compared to Amaran and Lucky Baskhar, which were from Tamil and Malayalam.

From KA to K-Ramp: The Diwali Struggles of Kiran Abbavaram

The KA movie wasn’t released in other languages and barely got any screens. Meanwhile, Kiran Abbavaram’s upcoming film, K-Ramp, is set to release this Diwali, alongside Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude, which is also hitting theaters during the same time.

The Tamil film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers, and it will be releasing on its own in Telugu states, and it will have a big screen count for sure.

Kiran Abbavaram says that young actors like Pradeep Ranganathan are getting many theaters in the Telugu states, but when he wants to release his film in Tamil Nadu, they are not giving theaters.

Kiran Abbavaram recently expressed his disappointment about the release of Tamil and Telugu films

“For KA, they clearly told us, ‘We can’t give screens.’ Ten Tamil actors have a strong market in Telugu states, but how many young Telugu actors have a good market in Tamil Nadu? When we show them so much love, shouldn’t we expect the same in return?”

These comments by the Ka actor have gone viral online and sparked a major debate across social media platforms.

After keeping the fans waiting for a few days, the OTT giant, Netflix, announced the streaming details of Hrithik Roshan and NTR’s War 2 streaming details just a while ago.

War 2 was released in theaters alongside Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie with huge expectations, but the film failed miserably at the box office, and it collected just around 370 Cr gross worldwide.

In Hindi, the film saw at least some respectable numbers, but in Telugu, it became an outright disappointment for fans and distributors.

So, it is official that NTR and Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix from tonight, i.e., October 9, 2025.

Directed by Ayan Mukerjee, the sequel of War also stars Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, Anil Kapoor, and others in crucial roles, and it is produced by Yas Raj Films.

Actress Krithi Shetty’s Tamil debut faced multiple delays for various reasons, but in an unexpected twist, her three Tamil films, Vaa Vaathiyar, LIK, and Genie, are all set to release this December.

Krithi made a sensational debut in Telugu with Uppena, and she got a major breakthrough in Telugu cinema as she was flooded with continuous offers. However, most of her subsequent films did not perform well at the box office, which led to a decline in her craze among Telugu audiences.

Krithi Shetty’s exciting triple treat is set to light up December 2025

Following this phase, she shifted her focus to Tamil cinema to explore new opportunities. It’s been almost three years since Krithi Shetty started shooting for her Tamil debut film, but unfortunately, all her projects faced delays.

In an unexpected twist, all three of her Tamil films are set to release in the same month. Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar is hitting theaters on December 5th, LIK is scheduled for December 18th, and Genie is also targeting a December release, contingent on the completion of its CG work.

Mohan Babu University Scandal

0

Mohan Babu University has come under serious scrutiny from the Higher Education Regulatory and Monitoring Commission. The commission has fined the University ₹15 lakh for charging extra fees from students and withholding their certificates.

Furthermore, the university has been directed to refund ₹26.17 crore within 15 days, which is the amount allegedly overcharged from students.

Due to these violations, the commission has recommended that the University Grants Commission (UGC), AICTE, and other related bodies cancel the university’s recognition.

It also suggested that nearby Sri Venkateswara University be given temporary responsibility to manage academic affairs.

This controversial development regarding the Mohan Babu University scandal has raised concerns among students and parents, and further action from the authorities is awaited.

Manchu Manoj also expressed this concern about his father’s university few months back

Kantara Chapter 1 Dominates — Idli Kadai Shows Reduced in Tamil Nadu

0

Idli Kadai, the latest film starring Dhanush, premiered on 1st October, while Rishab Shetty’s highly anticipated spiritual action drama, Kantara Chapter 1, hit the screens on 2nd October. Currently, the Kannada film is outperforming Idli Kadai in Tamil Nadu.

In Tamil Nadu initially the exhibitors gave big screens and maximum shows to Dhanush’s film, as it is their own language film and Red Giant Films distributed it.

Idli Kadai shows have decreased in Tamil Nadu as Kantara Chapter 1 continues to dominate

But from the weekend onwards, Rishab Shetty’s film started taking the lead over Dhanush’s directorial, and after the weekend, the lead got much bigger. Now Kantara Chapter 1 is doing almost double the numbers of Idli Kadai in Tamil Nadu.

Idli Kadai’s 1st week gross in Tamil Nadu is around 41 Cr, while the Kantara prequel’s 6-day Tamil Nadu gross is around 32 Cr. Kantara Chapter 1 is set to maintain a strong lead over Idli Kadai in this trend throughout its full run.

Kantara Chapter 1 Telugu States Box Office: 6 Days Collections, On Track for 100 Cr Mark

0

Following a fantastic opening weekend at the box office, Kantara Chapter 1 is maintaining strong performance on weekdays in Telugu states. The film requires a consistent run to recover the valued business, and it seems to be on the right track.

For 6 days, the spiritual action drama has collected around 68 Cr gross and around 46-47 Cr share, including GST in Nizam and Andhra. The film has been released on an advance basis, and for the valued business, the film needs to collect an 80 Cr share in Telugu states.

Overall, Kantara Chapter 1’s Telugu state collections are going on a consistent note at the box office, and the film will join the 50 Cr share club today or tomorrow. So far, 2.0, KGF 2, and Jailer are the only three dubbed films to have collected a 50 Cr share in the Telugu states, and now Rishab Shetty’s Kantara prequel is set to join this elite club.

With a 70 Cr gross collection in 6 days, the film is certainly on track for a 100 Cr collection. But for the film’s valued business, it needs to collect much more and should aim for at least over 125 Cr gross in its full run.

Produced by Hombale Films, the spiritual action drama is expected to have a huge 2nd weekend, as there are no notable releases this week, and the 3rd weekend will have the advantage of the Diwali festival.
