Celebrating 21 rocking years of Puri

It was on this day 21 years ago that a phenomenon in TFI was born. Puri Jagannadh made his debut as a director with Pawan Kalyan’s Badri and he’s been unstoppable since then. He’s created such a niche for himself in TFI where regardless of his film’s result, his dialogues and writing remain the central point of fans’ & critics’ discussions. It’s because of his game-changing movies that fans today are celebrating 21 rocking years of Puri

Whether it’s the carefree nature of Badri or the intense gaze of Pandu, Puri gave us some characters that stayed in our subconscious for quite some time. Who could forget the fickle and willy Surya Bhai and Inspector Daya who redefined TFI heroism with shades of grey. Puri is someone who always loves to push the barriers through his characterization. Prabhas’ Bujjigadu is a solid example of the same. Prabhas’ comic potential wasn’t tapped by many before, it was Puri, who gave us a completely new Prabhas aced both comedy as well as action in the movie.

One cannot leave out Ravi Teja when talking of Puri Jagannadh. It is the duo’s offscreen friendship that translated beautifully onto screen giving us some memorable performances. Chanti, Chandu and Ravi from Idiot, Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammayi and Neninthe are some of the most iconic charecterizations in TFI to date.

Puri’s one-liners, punch dialogues and rugged storytelling have all contributed immensely in making him the brand he is. Despite going through a spate of flops before Ismart Shankar, his brand remained intact. Over the past two decades, he has remained the same unabashed, unapologetic, and firm believer in his school of filmmaking. This has made him one of the biggest influence for a number of budding moviemakers in TFI.

Mahesh Babu’s blockbuster lineup

Super Star Mahesh Babu is on a roll with a number of Tollywood biggies lined up and waiting for him. Currently, he is busy with Parasuram’s Sarkaru Vari Paata. Apart from this, his production house GMB Entertainment is also backing Adivi Sesh starrer ‘Major’. However, what’s really interesting both fans and industry insiders is Mahesh Babu’s blockbuster lineup ahead. A series of biggies are in pipeline for Superstar with some of the biggest names in the industry.

Coming to Sarkaru Vari Paata, the movie’s filming has hit a roadblock due to Covid. Super Star recently joined the sets of the film amidst all the safety protocols. However, with a steep rise in the number of cases across the country, the team has now made a last-minute change to the schedule. The shooting for the second schedule will now commence once the situation normalizes. The movie will release on Sankranti release next year.

Post this Parasuram directorial, Mahesh will collaborate with Trivikram Srinivas for SSBM28. The movie will go on floors once Mahesh completes Sarkaru Vari Paata and it’s aiming for a release in the May-August range in 2022. This will be the third collaboration between Trivikram and Mahesh after Athadu and Khaleja. Mahesh-Trivikram combo has been a dream for fans for quite some time.

SSMB29 is another movie for which everyone is waiting for an update on. As per reports, this project could either be with Anil Ravipudi or Sudha Kongara. Ravipudi has already narrated the story line and Mahesh asked him to complete the script for narration. Meanwhile Sudha Kongara project has been under speculation for quite some time and if this materializes, would be her next big direct Telugu venture after 2017 Venkatesh starrer Guru.

This brings us to the biggest combo of all, Mahesh- Rajamouli film. Reportedly, this movie has been under talks for many years now. Both SSR and Mahesh have expressed interest in working with each other many times.

Currently, both Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli are busy wrapping their projects Sarkaru Vaari Paata and RRR respectively. Mahesh Babu is planning to finish SSMB28 and 29 before he joins the Rajamouli film. KL Narayan will be producing this film which is likely to hit the screens in 2024.

With Mahesh Babu’s blockbuster lineup that is in pipeline, the fans of Superstar are surely in for a massive treat.

Ravi Teja’s director tests Covid positive

Director Ramesh Verma became the latest Tollywood celebrity to test Covid positive. The director, who’s gearing up for the release of his upcoming Ravi Teja starrer Khiladi took to Twitter to announce this development.

” Hello everyone, I have tested positive for #Covid19 and quarantined myself as a part of a safeguard measure. Please wear the mask and try not to go out unnecessarily! Stay safe guys, love you all,” Tweeted the director.

Verma has placed himself in-home quarantine and is taking all necessary medical precautions. Additionally, he has requested all those who have been around him for the past few days to get tested. Khiladi’s filming is now halted and will resume once the situation improves.

Ravi Teja will be seen in a dual role in this action thriller. The movie is produced jointly by Satyanarayana Koneru and Ramesh Varma under the banner of A Studios LLP. It stars Dimple Hayathi, Arjun Sarja and Meenakshi Chaudhary in key roles.

Theatres in AP to have 50% occupancy

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to cut down the occupancy in cinema theatres with immediate effect. The decision has been taken in wake of rising covid cases across the country due to the second wave of covid. Many theatres in AP have already been shutdown due to the ongoing tussle between the distributors/exhibitors and government. Already a number of other states have imposed occupancy cuts in theatres while others have even started a partial lockdown.

AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday issued the directives to implement 50 % of occupancy in all cinema halls in the theaters. The function halls should maintain a 6-ft physical distance. 

Telangana government is also expected to make a similar announcement soon. The rising Covid cases have already forced a number of film shoots to be cancelled. A number of movies which were supposed to release in April have already pushed their release dates.

Anil Ravipudi lines up top stars

Director Anil Ravipudi, who’s on a successful streak for quite some will be joining hands with Nandamuri Balakrishna. Ravipudi and Balayya movie was a part of Tollywood speculation for quite some time now. And now, it looks like the project is finally going to materialize. True to Balayya’s style, this movie is going to be an out-and-out mass action film. Anil Ravipudi is leaving no stone unturned to highlight its commercial elements and bring out the best.

Meanwhile, Anil is also readying a script for Super Star Mahesh Babu. The ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’ director had narrated a line to Mahesh. Mahesh asked the director to work on the complete script and get back to him. It remains to be seen if this successful combo repeats or not.

On the other hand, Balakrishna impressed one and all with his look and ferocity in the recently released Akhanda teaser. The teaser is breaking one record after another in terms of views. It raked up 11 million views in just 24 hours of its release. Akhanda will be the third collaboration between him and Boyapati Srinu after Simha and Legend. After Akhanda, Balakrishna will start work on the untitled Gopichand Mallineni film. Mallineni has already started the groundwork for the film and is eagerly awaiting for Balayya to join the sets.

Ravipudi is meanwhile busy with F3 and once he completes it, will get started with the Balayya movie. It will be interesting to see how the combo works out on the big screen.

Falcon Creations, who will be bankrolling the much-awaited Vijay Devarakonda and Sukumar film updated the netizens about the movie’s future. The production house will be venturing into filmmaking with this movie as their debut. It confirmed that the movie is up and running and that it is not shelved. The statement further urged everyone to not believe in any kind of rumours that are floating around.

Vijay Deverakonda is currently shooting for Puri Jagannadh’s Liger while Sukumar is busy with Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa. Both the director and actor will collaborate once they are free from their commitments.

For the past few months, a number of rumours have been floating about the project and it was about time fans received an official word. The movie is touted to be a love story and the filming part will be completed in a very short span of time.

Sukumar next biggie with Ram Charan

In a big development that’s coming out, it has been revealed that director Sukumar’s next high-profile film will be with Mega Power Star Ram Charan. The duo worked on the 2018 Blockbuster Rangasthalam and for quite some time rumour mills were running over their next collaboration.

One of the most wanted directors in Tollywood, Sukumar is currently busy with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa. Post Pushpa, he will then move on to an untitled love story with Vijay Devarakonda which he is aiming to finish in 4-5 months. This will be a relatively smaller film in terms of budget and scale. This means that post-Stylish Star’s Pushpa, it’s going to be Ram Charan as the next big film from the director.

Earlier on Monday, the makers of Vijay Devarkonda and Sukumar’s untitled film took to Twitter and confirmed that the project is pretty much on. An official statement from Falcon pictures said that the project is not shelved and requested the audience to not believe in any rumours.

Meanwhile, Charan is currently busy SS Rajamouli’s RRR and Koratala Siva’s Acharya. He will then move on to his next film #RC15 which will be directed by maverick director Shankar. Dil Raju, who will be backing this project recently announced that the movie will go on floors in July.

The expectations on Sukumar- Ram Charan combo have already gone sky high especially after Rangasthalam. It needs to be seen if the duo can recreate the magic of 2018 yet again.

Vijay Devarakonda released the teaser of Sandeep Kishan starrer Gully Rowdy earlier today. The ‘Rowdy’ star took to Twitter to unveil the teaser of this action-comedy. “A movie that was made to make you laugh! I wish the team behind it, my man @sundeepkishan, @konavenkat99 sirrr and everyone all laughter, happiness and success! Big hugs and love from me,” posted Vijay.

The teaser reveals a lot about what to expect from the movie and has enough gags and laughs throughout. Neha Shetty will be starring opposite Sandeep and the movie promises to be a fun ride.

Rajendra Prasad, Posani Krishna Murali, and Vennela Kishore co-star in this film and all them look in great nick. G Nageswara Reddy, who’s known for the comedy genre is wielding the megaphone for this movie. This will be his second collaboration with Sandeep after Tenali Ramakrishna BA. BL. The movie is slated to release on 21st May.

Nazariya kickstarts Telugu journey

Popular Mollywood Star Nazariya will start shooting for her Telugu debut Ante Sundaraniki today. The actor posted a short note on her social media expressing her joy at this moment.

“Andariki Namaskaram! Today I start shooting for my first Telugu film. First is always special. Ante Sundaraniki will be special,” posted the actress. Actresses Nivetha Thomas and Anupama Parameswaran congratulated Nazariya on the occassion.

Nazariya will be playing the female lead opposite Nani in this film. Director Vivek Athreya is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding the movie and not revealing much. “I can’t reveal anything much about the film but it’s going to be a fun watch for sure. But when I say rom-com, I’d also like to clarify that it’ll be nothing like my debut film Mental Madhilo or the madcap Brochevarevarura,” he said during a recent media interaction.

Nazariya, was recently snapped at Hyderabad airport along with husband Fahadh. Both the actors will be making their Telugu debuts this year. Fahadh is playing the antagonist in Allu Arjun’s Pushpa, which will release later this year.

Vijay Devarakonda’s much anticipated Liger is now crossing the borders and moving on to the international level. It is a known fact that Vijay plays a boxer in this Puri Jagannath directorial. But, recently an interesting revelation was made about the film. Vijay will be playing the role of an international boxer in this sports action film.

The movie will have a bunch of massy action scenes in true Puri Jagannath style. Vijay will be essaying the role of a national level boxer in the first half. Post this, he would move on to international arena in the second half. Vijay’s massy characterisation and Puri’s intense writing are going to be the high points of the movie. Ramya Krishna will also be playing a crucial role in the movie.

This film stars Ananya Pandey opposite Vijay Deverakonda. Produced under Puri Connects in association with Dharma Productions, the pan-India film will release in Hindi and Telugu. It will also be dubbed in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
