Earlier last month, it was announced that the movie will hit the screens on the occasion of Vinayaka Chavithi on 10th September. However, that was again meant to be postponed and the makers came ahead with an update on social media today.

There were also talks of Love Story taking the digital route. However, both Sekhar Kammula and the producers have continuously denied the rumour. The makers made it clear that the film will only release in theatres once they reopen and the situation is better.

Seetimaarr Review: A strong dose of mass elements and sports drama

0

Movie: Seetimaarr
Rating: 2.75/5
Cast: Gopichand, Tamannah, Bhumika Chawla
Director: Sampath Nandi
Produced By: Srinivasa Chitturi
Release Date: 10th September 2021

Gopichand and Tamannah starter sports action drama Seetimaarr hit the screens today. The film has been continuously getting postponed and finally made its way to the audience. The film’s Worldwide Pre-release Business is close to Rs 14 crs which is the highest for a Telugu film post 2nd wave and has recorded decent occupancies all over. But, is it enough to sustain the film’s business? Is Seetimaarr really whistle-worthy? Let’s find out.

Story: The story starts with a school named Ramakrishna Memorial School in Athreyapuram. The school is a prestigious institutions and has now become the target of corprates who want to occupy the premises. This is where Gopichand (Karthik) enters and what he does next forms the rest of the story. Karthik is a Kabaddi coach and uses sports as a tool for creating awareness towards the school issue.

Performance: Gopichand excels in action scenes and that has been his strong point always. Along with action episodes, there are enough emotional moments for him and he does adequately well. Tamannah as the Telangana Kabaddi coach has got a good role on paper but that doesn’t translate well enough. Her presence is merely for commercial purposes and as always she excels and outshines others in songs. Bhumika also is playing a done and dusted role that she can now sleepwalk through. The same sister role doesn’t excite the viewers and doesn’t provide anything new.

Analysis: Seetimaarr is a good combination of sports drama, emotions and action. Sampath Nandi establishes the premise pretty well and after a few minutes of cliched narration the story proceeds smoothly. There is enough for the action lovers and commercial movie lovers in the film. The biggest weakness of the film though is the formulaic sequences and twists. These sequences are quite predictable and are straight out of a commercial movie handbook. As the name suggests, the film definitely has some whistleworthy moments and gives audience a high in moments but inability to sustain that high exposes the writing weakness of the film.

Plus Points:

Gopichand

BGM

Action Episodes

Support cast

Minus Points:

Lack of entertainment

Undercooked brother-sister sentiment

Slow narration in first half

Verdict: Seetimaarr has been promoted throughout as a commercial action entertainer and it stays on that path. The film consists of all elements of a mass entertainer and delivers in most of those areas. The sports angle acts as a nice driving force for the movie but, as we have seen with a countless other sports films, it is quite predictable. The support cast surprisingly has come through well and the young Kabaddi players have done a decent job. Overall the film is a decent watch and will excite you if you like commercial mass cinema.

Thalaivii review: Kangana and Aravind Swamy outperform as Jayalalithaa and MGR

0

Movie: Thalaivii
Rating: 3/5
Cast: Kangana Ranaut, Aravind Swami, Nassar, Bhagyashree, Samuthrikani
Director: AL Vijay
Produced By: Vishnu Induri, Shailesh Singh and Brinda Prasad
Release Date: 10th September 2021

Thalaivii follows the life of actor-turned-politician Jayalalithaa (Kangana Ranaut) and her relationship with the legendary M. G. Ramachandran (Arvind Swami). The film has covered the ups and downs of the former Chief Minister’s film life and her rise to politica power. A biographical account of her life, Thalaivi gets the major events of the titular character’s life bang on and effectively conveys the events that shaped Jayalalithaa into the central power figure of TN politics.

Story: The story chronicles the rise of Jayalalithaa and starts with her entry into the glamour world as a wide-eyed teenager. MGR, brilliantly played by Aravind Swami is impressed by the teenager’s tenacity. The duo famously stars in a number of films in the coming years and this phase showcases Jayalalithaa’s cine journey decently well. The other sub-plot is the political one where certain events force the actress to enter the male-dominated world of politics. What conspires after this makes for an interesting watch.

Performance: Kangana Ranaut has given a performance that was not quite expected. Being a north Indian, she effectively slips into Jayalalithaa’s character and looks quite natural. Her act as a young Jayalalithaa who is vulnerable and learning the tricks of the game is well performed. The film however belongs to Aravind Swami who has immersed himself into MGR’s character. The body language and mannerisms as the former matinee idol and Chief Minister are definitely one of the highlights of the film. Nassar has provided good support as Karunanidhi while the other support cast fits well into the story.

Analysis: One of the biggest strengths of Thalaivi is the casting. AL Vijay has a great team to work with and has utilized Kangana and Aravind Swami effectively. The film tends to get melodramatic in terms of dialogues at times and crispier writing could have made it a more memorable watch. Technically the film is strong and the visuals highlight the golden era of Tamil cinema quite well. While Thalaivii covers the life of Jayalalithaa well enough, her relationship with MGR which was quite multi-faceted and dynamic seems quite unidimensional in the film. However, once the political entry begins, the film gets into top gear and drives the story quite well. The film might not appeal to those who are not that much into retro cinema or politics even though has a story to inspire many

Plus Points:

Kangana Ranaut and Aravind Swami

Cinematography

Runtime

Crisp writing

Minus Points:

Over the top dialogues at points

MGR- Jayalalithaa relationship could have been presented better

Verdict: Thalaivii is a biopic that stays faithful to the life story of the legendary actress. It doesn’t stray far from reality. The technical aspects of the movie are the biggest strength of the film and it’s a great example of what happens when good acting supplements technical prowess. It is definitely one of the topmost performances of Kangana and Aravind Swami’s career and AL Vijay has to be commended for handling the subject well.

Tuck Jagadish Review: A familiar tale of family and emotions

0

Movie: Tuck Jagadish
Rating: 2.5/5
Cast: Naani, Ritu Varma, Jagapathi Babu, Daniel Balaji,  Aishwarya Rajesh, Nasar
Director: Shiva Nirvana
Produced By: Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi under Shine Screens
Release Date: 9th September 2021

Natural Star Nani’s much-awaited family drama Tuck Jagadish finally had its OTT release on Thursday. This is his second consecutive digital release after ‘V’. Directed by Shiva Nirvana, this film has been promoted throughout as a bouquet of family emotions. Shiva, who through his earlier films has successfully conveyed complex relations has been quite confident of the product while Nani who is known to be a natural at conveying all emotions has promised an enjoyable experience. Did the duo succeed? Let’s find out.

Story: The story set in Bhudevipuram is an age-old tale of land disputes among families and how they are handle it. How this particular family handles it is the crux of the story. Nani plays Tuck Jagadish, a family-centric caring, and loving younger brother while Jagapathi Babu plays Bose Babu, the elder son of the family. Together they live happily in Bhudevipuram but it all changes because of certain events.

Performance: The scope for performance is pretty little in a commercial entertainer like this. We have seen movies on this very premise for the last few decades and every character reminds you of something you have seen before. We have a loving younger son, a drunk brother-in-law, a brutal and greedy village villain, an honest government official, a caring and fatherly village elder. All these characters have appeared in countless films for the past many years and now it feels like a standard template. Nani has done adequately and nothing major can be said about him except for the emotional scenes. Jagapathi Babu again felt underutilized despite having great screen time. Ritu Varma is just present in the screens and doesn’t have a major character arc. Surprisingly it is Tamil actor Thiru who impresses the most with his menacing and sadistic act. Others like Rohini, Aishwarya Rajesh, Devadarshini have nothing new to offer.

Analysis: Nani’s Tuck Jagadish is in an age-old story which would have made sense if it released a couple of decades back. The tales of village land disputes and their violent solutions along with family melodrama seem to be too old for this age of fresh stories. The twists are quite obvious and any viewer who has grown up on Telugu movies can predict them from a mile away. Shiva Nirvana has tried to balance the emotions in the story well but sometimes it goes a bit overboard. Nani’s love track with Ritu Varma is another big minus as it doesn’t provide enough credibility. All it takes is a fight and scene for them to fall in love, this track right here is proof of the depth of writing in the film.

Plus Points:

Production Values

Prasad Murella’s cinematography

Minus Points:

Outdated plot

Dragged climax

Nani and Ritu Varma’s track

Songs and BGM

Verdict: Tuck Jagadish is an outdated attempt at presenting family relations in a village setup. The wafer-thin screenplay and predictability of the plot and twists gives the viewers a sense of deja vu. Nani tries his best to carry the film and even does decently in the action scenes. However, its the writing and character arcs of almost all the major characters that let us down. Overall Tuck Jagadish is a one-time watch and might not appeal to many apart from Nani fans.

Naga Babu’s strong counter to Mohan Babu over MAA building issue

0

With Movie Artists Association (MAA) elections just around the corner, a number of candidates have entered the fray. Of these, the prime candidates are Prakash Raj and Manchu Vishnu. Both these camps are mainly clashing over the issue of a new building for MAA.

However, an interesting update has come out which has led to a great tussle amongst some senior members of Tollywood. This tussle is expected to take a big turn with an amount of Rs 30 lakhs being unaccounted for at the moment.

Back in 2007, when Naga Babu presided over MAA, a building that existed in Srinagar Colony served as an office for the association. Rs 90 lakhs was spent on this building which included renovation and interior works.

However, much to everyone’s shock, the same building was sold off for just Rs 30 lakhs during Sivaji Raja and Naresh tenure in 2017. This issue has resurfaced now with Mohan Babu calling out this deal and asking an open question in a recent zoom meeting.

Responding to this, Naga Babu, during whose tenure this building was purchased asked Mohan Babu to not go for an open question and instead directly to Naresh and Sivaji Raja who are in fact supporting Manchu Vishnu in the upcoming elections. Incidentally, some time ago Manchu Vishnu claimed that his family will pay for the new building and that no contribution is needed from anyone.

This brings us back to the original burning point. “What happened to those Rs 30 lakhs and why was the building sold at such a loss without anyone’s knowledge?” Only Naresh and co. can answer this.

“You’ll see a new Nani now onwards,” says the actor

0

Natural Star Nani is gearing up for the release of Tuck Jagadish. The film will be the second consecutive digital release for the actor after ‘V’. Speaking about the release, Nani said that along with his fans, he was also missing the big screen and that he will be back surely with Shyam Singha Roy.

Speaking about the movie’s journey, Nani said, “I loved the way Shiva narrated the plot to me. It had a lot of depth subject wise and the way all the relationships were handled was simply amazing.”

The complexity of the bong between mine and Jagapathi Babu’s character is going to be one of the movie highlights and drew me to it,” he added.

Nani appeared quite confident during the interaction and declared that the audience is going to see a new Nani now onwards and that he will continue trying out new genres and subjects in all his upcoming film. Citing an example, he said that ‘V’ was a crime thriller, Tuck Jagadish is a family drama similarly Ante Sundaraniki is an out and out emotional and comedy subject which will excite and entertain everyone and Shyam Singha Roy is a supernatural thriller.

The actor added that the desire to challenge himself as an artist is what led to his refusal for movies such as F2 and Raja Rani.

“The moment I heard these subjects, I knew that these films will be sure shot blockbusters and that is exactly what happened. But, in case of Raja Rani there was a dates issue and while I loved the F2, I was not in a space for a comedy film.”

Tuck Jagadish is a subject quite close to Nani’s heart and he feels that audience will surely enjoy the family drama which will release tomorrow on Amazon Prime.

Historic 15th-century temple turns grand setting for Radhe Shyam

0

Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam made on a grand budget concluded its shoot across exotic locations around the world. The film’s final schedule was shot at a 15th Century temple at Gandikota in Jammalamadugu, Andhra Pradesh.

The heritage temple was built during the Krishnadevaraya era. Since the romantic entertainer period drama, the makers felt using this shrine as a shooting location would give the right feel to the scenes.

“I had been to this place long back. In June, when we went on a recce for suitable locations for our temple scenes, I thought this temple would be ideal, given its heritage setting,” explains the National Award-winning production designer Ravinder Reddy.

“We were specifically looking for a temple built entirely in stone and this fit the bill,” he says, adding, “The temple scenes are crucial and drive the narrative.”

“We had to build the navagraha, homam place, courtyard, and dance hall. Fibre and wood were used. All the material was transported from Hyderabad in 12 trucks,” says Ravinder. Accessories for the interior of the temple, like lamps and rudrakshas, were brought from Banaras.

Around 1,000 Veda Pandits were reportedly brought from various temples and Vedic universities for this schedule. “We have Aghoras too,” he says, adding that shooting schedule at the temple lasted a week. “We got all the spiritual vibes and it was truly an emotional moment. We spent around three years on the film, and I am glad that it ended on a spiritual note.

Tuck Jagadish is an extraordinary script with lot of emotions: Ritu Varma

0

Natural Star Nani’s Tuck Jagadish is releasing on September 10th as a Vinayaka Chavithi special on Amazon Prime Video. Ritu Varma will be seen as Gummadi Varalakshmi in the film, a government official.

“This is my first proper commercial role. I play a proper village girl, Gummadi Varalakshmi who is a VRO of the village. She is authoritative and as well as innocent. Even though she is traditional, she speaks her mind and stands for what she believes it right,” the actress says about her role in the movie.

Due to the current conditions, producers have taken this decision. OTT has revolutionized the Entertainment industry and it is the best way to reach a wider range of audience in a short time. So, I am not entirely disappointed”.

About how difficult is to play a village role, she said, “I have never been to a village. But I am a director’s actor. I get into the character whenever I wear the costume. Moreover, Director Shiva Nirvana has been very helpful to get everything right about the character. He is a director with a vision and has come up with extraordinary script stuffed with lot of emotions”.

Ritu Varma was all praise for her costar, Nani. “This is my second film with Nani after Yevade Subrahmanyam. Back then, I was new to the industry, and it was a small role. But I can say you he did not change a bit all these years. He is a self-made star and is still grounded and humble,” she says about Nani.
