My risk on Akhanda paid off: Miryala Ravinder Reddy

Balakrishna’s Akhanda has been one of the biggest success stories of 2021. This action entertainer was produced by Miryala Ravinder Reddy and directed Boyapati Srinu. The film was released amidst huge expectations and surpassed all and stood as a major box -office success. The film has performed steadily well in overseas markets as well as domestic markets.

Speaking about the phenomenal success of the film, Miryala Ravinder Reddy revealed that he took a massive risk on Akhanda which eventually paid off. He stated that he was extremely confident of the movie’s success and released despite having Rs 22.5 crores pending to him. The Balayya- Boyapati success combination proved lucky once again and delivered a hit bigger than Simha and Legend.

Reddy is thankful to both Balakrishna and Boyapati for delivering such a beautiful concept-oriented mass entertainer. Akhanda featured Srikanth as protagonist and Jagapathi Babu in a key role. Pragya Jaiswal co-starred as the female lead while SS Thaman delivered soulful music for this film.

Story: When lighting strikes a village, it directly hits two people and they end up being gifted with superpowers as a result. One of them uses these powers for the good and the other for his own greedy needs. The rest of the story is all about the clash between good and bad and who emerged successful in the end.

Performances: Tovino Thomas has done a neat and composed job and displayed the required panache as a superhero. Guru Somasundaram walks away with the cake though. His badass act is terrific and he undoubtedly dominated Tovino Thomas. His character is written with good depth and definition and his performance added to that and made this role one of the very special negative roles in recent years. Apart from these two, Femina George, Aju Varghese, Baiju Santhosh, Harisree Ashokan and all others were neat fits in their roles.

Analysis: Most of the Indian superhero films made till date are either comedy flicks or serious ones which aim at entertainment over emotional connect. Minnal Murali tries to balance entertainment and emotional connect and has succeeded at that to a good extent. The focus is entirely on the protagonist and antagonist. Their characters are brilliantly written and quite a lot of time is spent on establishing them and getting us used to them. But one thing which has to be admitted is that the antagonist character totally started dominating the film from somewhere in between and it also starts feeling as if he got slightly more screen time than the hero itself. The protagonist deserved a slightly bigger buildup and an even more stronger connect to match the incredible villain. Technically, the film is very commendable. The grand visuals, unique background score, costumes, art direction, action sequences and production design have all made their work noticeable with good efforts from their side. The length is one of the other few minor issues. Things could have been kept slightly more brisker in the first half as the film took way too much time to establish certain things which could have been done faster too. Also, the number of superhero sequences are quite few in number and may disappoint those expecting more of that. The climax created the right buildup to a sequel, which is definitely worth waiting for.

Verdict: Minnal Murali is a proper superhero action drama that stays true to it’s genre, emotions and characters. Definitely worth a watch for that reason and also for the good performances and technical finesse.

Blockbuster celebration for a non-blockbuster movie amuses many

The practice of conducting success meet for movies that are barely successful has been a constant spectacle for many years. This blockbuster celebration is not just limited to Tollywood but across industries as well. In many cases, success events are conducted right on the day of release for the sake of publicity and increasing footfalls.

Take the case of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise. The film opened to amazing record-breaking numbers. However, post the initial blockbuster weekend, the film has hit a slump and is seeing lower occupancies and a fall in collections.

Pushpa has done well in other languages. But, in Telugu, there is not even a single territory that has achieved a breakeven mark and few territories are even expecting huge losses. The unit is trying hard to project the film as a blockbuster despite this. Multiple success meets are being conducted to ensure the same.

The unit of Pushpa must take a leaf out of Prabhas’s Saaho. Saaho was a massive success in Hindi but failed to do the same in Telugu. The team, despite a blockbuster status in Hindi, chose to keep a low profile and accepted the reality. There were no blockbuster celebration and success meets for this action entertainer.

Upasana Konidela awarded with a rare distinction

Upasana Konidela has achieved a rare distinction by being granted the UAE Golden Visa by the government. Through this initiative, foreign investors and businessmen get complete ownership of their businesses in the country. These golden visas are issued for five or 10 years, which automatically get renewed.

Upasana Konidela has now become the first Tollywood-related celebrity to have been awarded this visa. Bollywood stars such as Shahrukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt along with Mollywood star Dulquer Salmaan have were awarded this visa earlier.

Upasana, who’s an entrepreneur and activist took to social media to share this news with her followers.

Minister Perni Nani to hold a press meet addressing ticket issue

Andhra Pradesh Cinematography and I & PR minister Perni Nani will hold a press meet shortly. The minister is likely to address the ongoing ticket pricing issue and theatre closures that are going on in the state presently.

Perni Nani will also be addressing the government’s plan for an online ticketing platform as well. He had earlier stated that the portal will be managed through AP State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation (APSFTTDC). It is being done to ensure maximum transparency.

Adding to this, Nani said that this would lead to a reduction of the service charge that the audience will have to pay over per booking.

The tickets pricing issue has become a serious battle between Tollywood and Government. The government one hand is passing G.Os and using its machinery to target the theatres and the industry as a whole. Retaliating o this, Tollywood is approaching courts and even shutting down its theatres voluntarily in protest.

The minister is likely to face questions on all these issues and address them.

Major highlights from RRR Chennai pre-release event

The RRR Chennai pre-release event concluded a while ago and the event was a blockbuster. The event held at Chennai Trade Centre saw the presence of the trio of Rajamouli, Jr NTR and Ram Charan in full energy. Tamil actors Sivakarthikeyan, Udaynidhi Stalin and producer Kalaipuli S Thanu along with a number of celebrities were present at the grand event.

Speaking at the event, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu expressed solid confidence in the movie and Rajamouli’s brand. “Even if we invest ₹1000 crores on his film, he has the capability to get ₹1000 crores profits from it,” said the senior producer.

Sivakarthikeyan also expressed ultimate confidence in the film and admiration for Rajamouli. He said that 2022 is going to be a big year with biggies like RRR and Valimai coming up. “They will bring the audience to theatres for the other movies coming later,” he claimed.

SS Rajamouli also expressed his gratitude to the Tamil audience for making his previous films such big hits in TN. While sharing interesting stories about the film, he thanked the producer of the film DVV Danayya in particular. The ace director said that he took an advance from the producer 13 years ago and always wished for a big project alongside. Rajamouli thanked Danayya for being so patient with him and supporting him on such a massive project.

Rajamouli also thanked Tarak and Charan for their massive contribution to making his vision come to life. He added that they are the sole reason behind the film hitting the $2 million mar kat the USA pre-sales.

The highlight of RRR’s Chennai pre-release event though was the bonding between the lead stars Tarak and Charan. Tarak thanked Charan’s fans while Charan conveyed his gratitude to Tarak’s fans. Both of them claimed that they are surely in for a treat come January 7th. Both the actors thanked Rajamouli for giving them a project like RRR.

SSMB28: Trivikram, Vamsi, and Thaman meet Mahesh in Dubai for narration
