Pushpa2- Makers expect a 200Cr business from Telugu states but buyers are not ready to take risks

Pushpa 2 is the most anticipated sequel currently in production and is slated for release on Independence Day weekend. The makers are quoting record prices everywhere for this movie’s theatrical businesses. For Telugu states makers are expecting a Rs 200Cr business. So far, only RRR has managed to do a Rs 200Cr business in Telugu states.

Before its release, Salaar makers had also started with 200Cr quotations but ended up with 160Cr. Even in that 160Cr, not all the amount was NRA and at release time further negotiations also happened. In Nizam Salaar is achieving breakeven but in Andhra Pradesh, there is no possibility for breakeven.

And now, Pushpa 2 makers are also quoting 200Cr for theatrical rights. Pushpa 1 was not a monumental success in Telugu states. It was the other states and primarily the Hindi version that got mammoth collections to the film. Part 1 was not a big hit in Telugu states and it was just like a normal biggie and ended up less than 110Cr share.

Because of these reasons, the buyers may not take this much risk by putting larger amounts. For Andhra [6 Territories] makers are quoting at 100Cr. If we look at the business trends, then other than the Sankranthi season recovering 60Cr is also very tough. We are seeing that in the case of Salaar.

Even Pushpa 1 did not put any big numbers here. Now we need to see what will be the final business of the film. In Nizam, even the makers quoting at 70 -75 Cr and while that may work out, Andhra Pradesh buyers will not risk these numbers considering the current GO

It is widely known that Prabhas’s latest film, Salaar, was released in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and Telugu, the main version. While the film’s underperformance in the other languages could be understood, no one could guess that the film would get fewer numbers in the Hindi version.

Because Salaar was made in the combination of Baahubali Hero and KGF Series Director, everyone, including the trade, expected the film to collect massive numbers in North India. However, Salaar has managed to collect just decent numbers in Hindi. Shobhu Yaarlagadda, the Baahubali Producer, states that Salaar’s Hindi numbers are affected due to the lack of promotions.

Lack of Promotions killed the box office potential of Salaar in Hindi

The reason mentioned by Shobhu is absolutely valid. In Telugu, there is no need for any promotions for Salaar, but when it comes to other languages, they must do massive promotions to create a buzz, especially in Hindi. The Baahubali Producer also said that the makers of Salaar could have shown the world of Khansaar and its characters to the audiences before the release, which could have made them more transparent about the film’s story.

Prabhas did a lot of promotions for Saaho in Hindi, and we have seen the numbers of the film, and it opened well there, even with bad reviews. Salaar has good reviews and a massive combination, but the only missing part is a buzz around the film. If they promoted the film well and created a buzz, then for sure, Salaar could have seen double collections than the current numbers.

Salaar has collected around 100Cr net in the Hindi belt, which is a low number considering the combination and scale of the film. If the movie had been promoted well, the team could have reached the 200Cr mark by this time.

Balakrishna scored a massive hit with Akhanda in 2021, leading people to believe Balayya heavily relies on Boyapati for a hit. But this year changed everything and Balakrishna proved this with Veera Simha Reddy and Bhagavanth Kesari. 

Both the releases worked well at the box office and collected more than Rs 70Cr share worldwide. Veera Simha Reddy which was released for Sankranti had sensational openings and was bigger than Waltair Veerayya even in centers like Nizam and in overseas the movie opened bigger than Chiranjeevi’s film.

With Bhagavanth Kesari, the senior star came out of his comfort zone and did a great job. Both Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya did well at the box office and also the raised the market of Balakrishna by a very big margin.

The same is the case with Nani who had 2 releases this year with Dasara taking record openings in tier 2 Heros and also became 1st 100Cr+ grosser for Nani. With Hi Nanna, he proved his strong content selection again winning many hearts. Initially, everyone believed that Hi Nanna would not work at the box office but Nani proved them wrong and made the film successful.

Both Balakrishna and Nani had a memorable 2023 and now all eyes are on their upcoming projects in 2024.

The audience is not that foolish for us to take them for granted and do something like this. The misrepresentation they are hearsay.
