Zee Studios issues an apology letter for Annapoorani. A letter from Zee Studios went viral on social media on Thursday, January 11th, where they apologized for hurting Hindu religious sentiments in their film ‘Annapoorani.’ The letter dated January 9th is written on Zee Studio’s letterhead and addressed to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

According to the letter, Zee has urged M/s Trident Arts, the film’s co-producers, to address the problematic parts in the film and for Netflix to remove the movie from its OTT platform until it is not modified. Controversies surround Nayanthara’s Annapoorani

On Thursday, January 11, Netflix removed the movie from the OTT platform. Much criticism was directed at the film on social media for its anti-Hindu content. The film was alleged to have encouraged conversion to Islam, distorted the revered Hindu deity Bhagwan Ram, and offended Hindu religious sentiments.

Up until yesterday, the movie was on Netflix and had a description that read: ‘The daughter of a temple cook goes against her family’s wishes to serve non-vegetarian dishes to demonstrate her cooking skill.’

Annapoorani, which premiered on Netflix on December 29th, 2023, is the 75th film starring Tamil actress Nayanthara. Trident Arts, Zee Studios, and Naad Studios produced the movie.

The complaint was filed against Nayanthara, Jai, Nilesh, producers Jatin Sethi, R Ravindran, Punit Goenka, Zee Studios Chief Business Officer Shariq Patel, and the head of Netflix India, Monika Shergill. The fans of the actress are shocked as a Legal Case has been filed against Nayanthara and Netflix alleging anti-Hindu activity.

Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food features Nayanthara as an ambitious chef who participates in the reality show ‘India’s Best Chef’ despite her mother’s dislike. ‘Annapoorani’ is jointly produced by Jatin Sethi and R Ravindran and features Jai, Sathyaraj, Redin Kingsley, Suresh Chakravarthy, Renuka, and KS Ravikumar. Thaman S composed the music, while Sathyan Sooryan was the cinematographer.

A professional chef taught Nayanthara to play the role, and the movie marks her reunion with Jai following the release of ‘Raja Rani’ in 2013.

The tussle for theatres has also taken a dramatic turn with Tollywood big distributors Dil Raju and Mythri Movie Makers engaging in a war of words. The Hanuman team has been directly as well as indirectly indicating that all producers especially Dil Raju have targeted them.

They believe that Dil Raju and others are not giving theatres while also trying to snatch existing theatres as well. Dil Raju team on the other hand have stated that the Hanuman makers and Mythri team are just playing sympathy drama.

Dil Raju’s team has stated that it’s just a business model and everyone wants their films to get the best possible release. Exhibitors will give the theatres according to their good terms with distributors which Dil Raju has. The ace producer’s camp stated that in Andhra, Hanuman got good theatres because of good distributor-exhibitor relationships. Wherever good distributors exist, theatres will also follow.

Coming to the Asian multiplexes issue Hanuman team reportedly has asked for the allocation of a fixed number of shows initially. But now, Hanuman makers and distributors are demanding more shows and blackmailing stating they won’t release the film at all if they do not get more screens.

The Asian chain clearly said that for premiers they could give demanded shows. But release day onwards the same can’t be satisfied because multiple films are releasing and a biggie like Guntur Kaaram is amongst them. Team Dil Raju has alleged that the Hanuman team is continuously trying to get sympathy from the audience through these actions.

During the recent producers’ meeting, all producers had requested the Hanuman team to move the film to the 11th as they expected such issues to arise. Hanuman’s producer did not even attend the initial discussions and continuously stated that they couldn’t release the film on the 11th. And now evening and night show premiere screenings are happening on the 11th at all centers.
