Prabhas Films: Postponement Saga Continues

0

Out of all the tier-one heroes, Prabhas has the maximum committed movies which are officially announced as well. His call sheet is blocked at the moment and has been working back-to-back for the last couple of years. Last year, he had two releases- Aadipurush and Salaar, this year there’s The Raja Saab, Kalki and Salaar 2 lined up next. Apart from this, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit is also in the lineup.

But all these movies have one common factor and that is of postponement. The problem with having such a blocked schedule with all the movies heavy on VFX and budget is that they will take longer than expected time unless everything is planned to perfection with future possibilities also taken into account.

Not even a single film of Prabhas has been released as per the announcement date. Recently, both Adipurush and Salaar postponed their release dates. Kalki which was planned for Sankranti is postponed to the 9th May release. Now the industry buzz is that this movie will again be postponed.

The team is looking for around September release. Now every big film is postponed especially pan India films. All of Prabhas’ films are pan-India films so all his releases are seeing continuous postponements. But the best part about Prabhas is that he is doing continuous films so at least one film is getting released.

Last year two films were released. Even now he has multiple projects after Kalki’s release. The Raja Saab, Salaar sequel, Spirit, Kalki sequel and Hanu Raghavapudi’s film have been signed and it needs to be seen how the release of these biggies are planned.

Netflix Disappoints Shah Rukh Khan Fans

0

Dubbed ‘King Khan’, Shah Rukh Khan is regarded as one of the most popular actors in the history of Indian cinema. He is also one of the few Bollywood actors with significant fame and a large fanbase in South Indian states. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), a cult classic film in Hindi, has been dubbed into Telugu and Tamil since the 1990s and has been fairly popular among audiences.

Khan’s recent releases, Pathaan and Jawan, in their Telugu and Tamil-dubbed versions, have emerged as successful ventures at the box office. However, his most recent release, Dunki (2023), has had a release only in the original version, Hindi; this was a major disappointment for all the non-Hindi fans. In an era where cinema has become global, most of the films, no matter how small, are being dubbed into all the major Indian languages of the country. ‘King’ Khan, on the other hand, seems to be negligible about the south market.

Coping up from this dismay, fans have been eagerly waiting for the digital release of Dunki on Netflix. The film has finally arrived on the streaming platform, but only in Hindi and with no dubbed versions. This received severe backlash from not just fans but also cinephiles in general. It remains to be seen how Netflix will address this issue.

Oye Re-release Outshines Latest Releases on Valentine’s Day

0

The latest Re-Release sensation ‘Oye’ generated more bookings on the Valentine’s Day compared to the other latest releases in all south languages. There was a lull period for the re-releases trend after the gigantic success of Businessman last year, with Venky being an exception. But then again with the change of seasons, Oye captured the thunder riding on the Valentine’s wave.

BookMyShow data shows “Oye” soared on Valentine’s Day, with 20k tickets booked in 24 hours, crushing all the latest releases. Raviteja’s “Eagle” managed just 13k, while Rajinikanth’s “Lal Salaam” and “Anweshippin Kandethum” trailed with 8k and 15k bookings respectively. It’s very clear how Oye dominated the latest releases on the Valentine’s day.

It has been a dull month for Tollywood. Things changed drastically for the theatrical business over the pandemic. Audiences have become choosy about how they spend their time. Any film that doesn’t feel fresh or lack a novel factor is barely surviving even with massive promotions or positive talk. Oye came as a glimmer of hope during this lull period. Film collected around 1.5 crores gross worldwide on day 1 of its re-release.

Oye was directed by Anand Ranga, produced by DVV Entertainments. Film stars Sidharth and Shamili in lead roles. Film was re-released Worldwide on the occasion of Valentine’s day.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya Takes a Big Jump on Valentine’s Day, Heading towards box office success

0

Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ took a big jump on Valentine’s Day. Off late, films that opened with mixed reviews or below-par talk are not working in Bollywood. Even the recent star-studded films like Tiger 3 and Fighter failed miserably. However, ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ is trending differently.

The film opened with unanimous disastrous reviews but is still putting decent numbers at the Box office. It opened with 7Cr nett and despite disastrous reviews, the romantic comedy saw a good jump on Saturday and Sunday with double-digit collections. Overall the film has collected 29Cr+ nett in India. The film did not see major drops even on Monday and Tuesday and collected 7Cr nett for 2 days.

The Valentine’s Day on Wednesday was particularly impressive and ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ collected Rs 7 crores which is on par with the opening day numbers. After 6 days, the film has collected 43Cr nett in India and the gross is in the range of 51Cr. Overseas also the movie is doing pretty well with a $3 Million collection.

Total worldwide gross is in the range of 75Cr and it’s expected to cross 100Cr by 2nd weekend which is huge considering the reviews it had. This Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon starter might just become a hit if the same show continues.

Yatra 2 Loss: A Staggering 40 Crores

0

Films with political agendas often face a risky position at the box office. From a commercial standpoint, they require careful calculations to ensure they succeed and recoup their budgets. Many of these films are driven by political motives, with financial matters indirectly influenced by political parties, thereby minimizing their impact on other individuals.

In 2019, Balakrishna made a biopic on SR NTR, which turned out to be the biggest disaster in his career. The primary reason for this was the political agenda behind it, which didn’t capture people’s interest. Meanwhile, “Yatra,” made on a moderate budget, managed to perform well commercially, earning a theatrical share of over 10 crore. Its non-theatrical business also brought in significant revenue.

For “Yatra 2,” the budgets are reported to have more than doubled compared to the first part. The remuneration for the cast and crew alone is said to exceed 25 crore, with the total budget nearing 50 crore, including publicity and all expenses. However, the movie failed to generate buzz, and audiences showed little interest. It only managed to collect a theatrical share of 3 crore, even with significant backing from political leaders. The producers had to release the film independently as buyers showed no interest

There isn’t much non-theatrical business for the film either. If we look at it from a commercial standpoint, like other films, Yatra 2 Loss could exceed 40 crore. However, these losses won’t affect individuals as the film primarily benefits a political party. Many more political agenda films are gearing up for release, such as “Rajadhani Files,” RGV’s “Vyooham,” and Nara Rohit’s “Pratinidhi 2.” But the audience doesn’t seem interested in these movies.

Another Mahesh Babu’s Film: A Complete Copy Claims Writer

0

R. D. Wilson, alias Sarath Chandra, is a novelist and poet in Telugu. He made headlines for accusing Koratala Shiva of plagarising his work in the film Srimanthudu (2015). He claimed the Mahesh Babu-starrer was a complete copy of his work, ‘Chachhentha Prema’, a novel published in Swathi magazine in 2012.

He lodged a complaint at the Telugu Cine Writers’ Association, which, after analysing the claim, concluded that Srimanthudu’s core plot was copied from his work. Mr. Chandra went on to pursue it at the apex court of the country, which confirmed the copyright infringement that had happened. Needless to say, Koratala Shiva will have to face criminal charges.

Now, the same writer has accused another film of Mahesh Babu of being a scene-to-scene copy of his work ‘Samaharam’. It’s the Super Star’s landmark 25th film, Maharshi (2019). He also stated that he’ll take legal action against the film’s writers, Vamshi Paidipally, Hari, and Ahishor Solomon, once the ongoing Srimanthudu issue is settled.

All in all, it was a tough time for Mahesh Babu, with his writers and directors continuously facing legal troubles. On the work front, ‘Super Star’ is currently preparing for a project directed by S. S. Rajamouli.

Tollywood Heros Demanding Unreasonable Salaries

0

Ever since Rajamouli’s Bahubali performed well in non-Telugu markets, every ‘Star’ hero from our film fraternity hiked their paychecks. The COVID lockdown, which created a massive demand for films’ digital streaming rights, also played a key role in catalyzing this process.

However, now the OTT boom has ended, leading to poor business in streaming and satellite rights for films. Actors’ remunerations, which continued going uphill, couldn’t adapt to this change in trade, which put the producers in big financial trouble. In some cases, the lead actor’s remunerations have equaled or even exceeded the film’s total theatrical rights.

This issue in particular is significant among tier-2 Tollywood Heroes, who are quoting huge sums between 20 and 30 crore INR. Even small-time (tier-3) Tollywood Heroes demanding double-digit remunerations made the situation much worse. It’s high time for these actors, who overestimate their stardom, to understand that films’ non-theatrical business, which includes digital and streaming rights, is down and movies are struggling to register double-dight share figures even with positive talk.

The total theatrical business of the films is not even recovering heroes’ remunerations. The mistakes are mainly on the producers’ side as they are offering record remunerations for dates and putting themselves in big trouble. Few producers understand the reality and now they are making the steps carefully but most of the producers still facing troubles as they are not in reality.
