Tollywood’s Box Office Results for Q1 2024

The first quarter at the Tollywood box office was a disappointing one. Small films like Hanuman performed exceptionally well while big star movies like Guntur Kaaram couldn’t stand up to the hype.

Unlike the Malayalam industry which has delivered four massive blockbusters in just three months, Tollywood has witnessed only a couple of blockbusters in Hanuman and Tillu Square. Here’s a Tollywood box office report of films that were released in the first quarter and their performance.

Tillu Square starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Anupama Parameswaran has opened to a phenomenal start. The film carried good hype before its release and performed accordingly as well. This is a sequel to the blockbuster DJ Tillu. Tillu Square’s total first weekend worldwide Box office collections stand as below:

Tillu Square had a sensational weekend in all the territories. Most of the territories achieved the breakeven mark by the weekend itself. Few will do it by today or tomorrow. In Nizam, the film has collected a share of 10.5 crores. In Ceded, it is 2.85 and in the Coastal belt of AP, the share is around 7.6 crores. This would take the total share to an approx. 20.95 crores in Telugu States. This would be 24.5 crores if GST is included. The rest of India’s share would be around 2.25 crores. The film has already breached the $2M mark in the US and the share will be around 8.7 crores there.

The total worldwide share of the film will be approx. 31.9 crores. Including GST would take that to 35.15 crores. This is a sensational run for the film. If another weekend promises the same numbers, the film may well touch the 50 crores share mark and even the 100 crores gross mark worldwide too. The film has already created a milestone for Tier 2 range films.

Tillu Square creates a new milestone for Tier -2 range films

Recently released Tollywood film, Tillu Square has created a new milestone for a Tier 2 range film category. The film has gone close to a gross of 45 crores worldwide. This is indeed a great achievement for lead actor, Siddhu Jonnalagadda and the team as well.

When the Tillu Square trailer was released, everyone was doubtful about its result. Many thought that it might not match up to its prequel’s magic and success. The trailer looked repetitive and boring as well. The Lead Actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda expressed confidence saying that what they showed in the trailer was just a sample. His words have come true now. The film collected a share of around 7 crores in Telugu states on Day 2 which is a record for any Tier 2 film. Earlier Uppena held this record. Uppena starred a Mega hero which fetched that much number. Dasara was projected as a Pan India film hence the collection. But Tillu Square with no Pan India film budget or making managed to cross these films which is surely a new milestone.

If the same momentum continues, the film may even cross the collections of Dasara. The team is enjoying the success and has already announced another film in the franchise, Tillu Cube. This was even shown in the film during the climax. Let’s see what wonders that would create.

Aadujeevitham: Epic Journey and Epic Success

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham has got off to a sensational start and is ruling the theatres in Kerala. The highly ambitious survival drama which has been in the pipeline for several years finally made its way to the theatres earlier this week to great reviews and tremendous audience response.

The collections have brought a massive smile on the maker’s face with the 1st weekend gross estimated at around 65 Cr. This makes Aadujeevitham the all-time biggest weekend for Mollywood movie by a big margin. This is an epic and deserving result for the team’s efforts.

Aadujeevitham is an adaptation of the 2008 best-selling Malayalam novel of the same name by Benyamin and follows the life of Najeeb, who, employed as a goatherd against his will, survives in a slave-like situation in the middle of the Saudi desert. The film has been titled The Goat Life for the international version

The survival drama is written and directed by Blessy and has been in production for 6 years and the idea of the movie was conceived more than a decade back. The film also starred Amala Paul and Shobha Mohan and has been well-appreciated for its gripping narration and stunning visuals.

Premalu OTT streaming date is officially out

Recently released Malayalam film, Premalu became a sleeper hit. The film is a youthful entertainer set in Hyderabad. It generated positive reviews on its opening day and became run-away hit. The film managed to attract other languages’ audiences as well with its success. Now, Premalu’s OTT streaming date has been officially announced.

Premalu managed to gross 100 crores worldwide in Malayalam becoming the 4th highest grosser in the language after Manjummel Boys, 2018, and Lucifer. Owing to its success in Malayalam, it was released in Telugu as well. The film managed to get positive reviews here as well and became the highest-grossing Telugu-dubbed Malayalam film here. The film initially had a competition with both Telugu releases, Bhima and Gaami but withstood the competition. Premalu was distributed by SS Karthikeya, son of renowned Telugu Director, S.S. Rajamouli. It has grossed more than 15 crores in Telugu languages worldwide. Together the gross has touched 125 crore gross mark as well.

This is a phenomenal achievement for a low-budget film in the comedy entertainer genre. Audiences have been waiting for its streaming date to watch it again. It was postponed several times. But it has been locked now. Premalu will stream in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam languages on April 12th on Leading OTT giant, Disney+Hotstar.

Manjummel Boys Telugu Trailer released

Recently released Malayalam film, Manjummel Boys created a sensation. The film with no big star cast managed to gross more than 200 crores gross worldwide. The film attracted other language audiences with its success in the Malayalam language. Telugu audiences have shown a lot of interest in the film. Vijay’s final film director finalised

Tamil Actor Vijay has recently announced that he would be quitting films and enter the political arena. He also declared the name of his political party i.e., Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, shortly TVK. He also said that he would do one more film for fans sake before leaving the film Industry. Now, his final film’s director has been finalised.

Vijay is currently doing a film with Director Venkat Prabhu alongside Meenakshi Chaudhary. This film is already titled The Greatest Of All Time. First look posters of the films had already been released. Vijay portrays dual roles in the film. Fans have speculated many directors names for his final film film after The GOAT. Many Telugu Directors names too have come up. Some even speculated that Trivirkam or Gopichand Malineni would direct his final film. But it is believed that H. Vinoth has grabbed this chance.

H. Vinoth was known for directing the remake of Pink in Tamil, Nerkonda Paarvai and also another film of Ajith, Valimai. Vinoth was supposed to do a film with Kamal Haasan but it got postponed due to dates issues of Kamal Haasan. So Vijay wants to complete this film with H. Vinoth as soon as possible after The Goat’s completion. He wants to complete these films’ shoot and concentrate on politics completely. He would competing for the Tamil Nadu State assembly elections which are bound to happen in 2026.

Vijay Deverakonda’s meaningless words about Debut Directors

Tollywood Actor Vijay Deverakonda shared few insights about his working style and mindset in accepting films. He was talking about these during the press meet fo his upcoming film, Family Star. However his words seemed meaningless when he talked about Debut Directors.

Vijay Deverakonda while answering to a question about encouraging debut directors said that he was not interested in Debutants. He said he wants directors who are experienced in pulling off tasks which include proper budget planning and large scale filming. He said that he needs atleast one or two films directors to bring them on board for his film.

This didn’t go well with audiences and some section of people as they feel Vijay Deverakonda too was once a debtutant. The directors he worked with during his initial days were Debutants mainly Sandeep Reddy Vanga who gave him a lifetime asset, Arjun Reddy. Vijay got a nationwide recognition with this film which was directed by a debutant. Its very sad for him to forget and disregard the talent of Debutants. It became clear with his words that he may not work with a debutant in near future. All his films are already either planned as Pan India films or big budgeted flicks. His Family Star is slated for release this April 5th.

Films that released this weekend have received a positive response from audiences across the country. Three films made this possible. They are Crew from Bollywood, Tillu Square from Tollywood, and The Goat Life from Mollywood. All these three films promise a very good weekend for the Indian film Industry.

Tillu Square from Tollywood achieved a phenomenal opening of about 23 crores gross worldwide. It is also one of the biggest openers of the year here. The second day of Tillu Square too is on par with that of the opening day. On the other hand, The Goat Life also titled Aadu Jeevitham starring Prithviraj made a sensation by becoming the fastest 50 crore gross from Mollywood within just 3 days. It’s also on its way to cross the 100 crore gross mark soon worldwide.

Hindi film Crew starring Tabu, Kriti Sanon, and Kareena Kapoor too achieved a positive word of mouth and grossed 20 crores on the opening day. This is a phenomenal start for these films. On the other hand, Godzilla x Kong the new empire film also achieved a good talk and is doing well across the country in all territories. If the same momentum continues, all these films might touch the 100 crore gross mark worldwide easily. Summer Season also gives an added advantage for these films to do wonders at the box office.
