Mirzapur Star For Kamal Hassan’s Thug Life!

‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Hassan will be next seen in an action drama film called ‘Thug Life’. Helmed by the legendary Mani Rathnam, it marks the first actor-director collaboration since the groundbreaking gangster drama film Nayakan (1987).

The film’s good buzz is primarily for the collaboration and its ensemble star cast. Most recently, Simbu has been roped in as a replacement for Dulquer Salmaan. Besides him, the film also stars Trisha Krishnan, Jayan Ravi, and Aishwarya Lekshmi. According to the latest report, two more Bollywood actors have joined the team.

Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal, two highly popular Hindi actors, have been reportedly roped in for key roles. In a recent media interaction, the latter expressed his excitement about working with legends like Kamal and Mani Rathnam. Thug Life’s music is composed by A. R. Rahman.

‘Mega Star’ Chiranjeevi has come back to Hyderabad from his visit to New Delhi. The actor was recently awarded the prestigious ‘Padma Vibhushan’ for his outstanding service to the field of Telugu cinema. Savouring this proud moment, he interacted with the media at the airport.

Answering one of the questions posed by a journalist, Chiru clarified if he would be campaigning for Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena Party in Pitapuram constituency. Calling it a’media-created speculation’, Chiru made it crystal clear that he would not go to Pitapuram for a campaign.

Chiru went on to say that his brother never approached him to promote his party in Andhra Pradesh. He also stated that though he wishes the best for his deaf brother Pawan Kalyan, he chooses to stay away from politics completely.

The trailer of Satyadev’s Krishnamma promised to be an action entertainer filled with intense moments and featured him in a completely rugged avatar. The inside reports and industry feedback on the movie presented by Koratala Siva have been largely positive. But the success of the movie depends on the audience’s reception. Let’s find out if the movie has enough fire and intensity as the trailer promised.

Story:

Bhadra (Satyadev), Koti (Meesala Lakshman), and Shiva (Krishna Teja Reddy) are three childhood friends who are also orphans. Having grown up together, they share quite a strong bond. The trio’s lives change forever when they find themselves at the center of a smuggling case and get lodged in jail. What happens next and what dark secrets they unravel is what this revenge drama follows.

Performances:

Satyadev is the heart and soul of this movie. He effortlessly portrays the role of a guy next door as well as a prisoner filled with the fury of revenge. His intensity and action sequences are a revelation and he manages to portray Bhadra’s character with terrific conviction. Meesala Lakshman and Krishna Teja Reddy are perfect support to Satyadev and their humorous sequences and bond add a great depth to the proceedings. The supporting cast featuring Nanda Gopal and Athira Raj among others have done a decent job.

Analysis:

The film really picks up steam in the middle when the primary narrative is revealed, showing that it’s a revenge drama as well as a story of friendship. Krishnamma’s main focus is on corrupt police tactics, such as framing innocent people in order to shield powerful individuals. The issue of police brutality on commoners and the downtrodden has been touched several times in Tamil cinema recently and portraying this issue with such realism is definitely appreciated.

The natural and realistic portrayal of the characters is one of the biggest positives of the movie and kudos to the director for choosing to go down the raw path. While the film stays close to reality in major parts, it also suffers with the unnecessary need for commercial elements such as a romantic angle. The portions involving Satyadev and Archana harm the movie’s flow and look quite out of place. The main plot and the trio’s dynamics should have been focussed on more instead of a romantic plot.

Verdict

Krishnamma has its flaws in screenplay and pacing. Satyadev, however, makes up for this flaw with a gripping performance that will surely earn him several accolades. Do watch the movie if you are into revenge action entertainers with a dash of reality.

‘Rowdy Star’ Vijay Devarakonda is celebrating his 35th birthday today. Known for his outspoken nature, the actor has developed more haters than admirers in his decade-long film career. Neverthless, he is a fantastic performer and deserves to emerge as the next ‘Super Star’.

Vijay has surprised his fans by dropping not one but three big updates on his future endeavours. First and foremost is his collaboration with Gowtam Tinnanuri of Jersey (2019) fame. Tentatively titled #VD12, this will be an action drama set against an Indian army backdrop. Naga Vamshi is bankrolling this project on a massive budget under Sithara Entertainments.

Next up is his second collaboration with Rahul Sankrityan after the horror flick Taxiwala (2018). According to the poster, this will probably be a period drama with an adventurous touch. Referred to as #VD14, Mythri Movie Makers will produce this venture.

The last and most exciting of all is his project with newcomer Ravi Kiran Kola, who directed the critically acclaimed films Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam (2022) and Raja Vaaru Rani Gaaru (2019). A high-octane action film, this is touted as a ‘Pan-Indian’ project with simultaneous release across five languages.

Ace producer ‘Dil’ Raju will fund this big-budgeted project under Sree Venkateshwara Creations. Vijay must be applauded for his ambitious plans, even after facing multiple setbacks lately. Let’s hope these projects turn out to be winners at the box office, providing the much-needed breakthrough for the Arjun Reddy (2017) star.

No Pawan Kalyan movies in 2024

Tollywood Actor Pawan Kalyan has recently announced his upcoming films. OG directed by Sujeeth will release this September 27th and Hari Hara Veera Mallu Part 1 will release in December this year. But to everyone’s surprise, both of these films won’t be releasing in 2024. This is quite a bit of disappointing news for the fans as there will be no Pawan Kalyan movies in 2024.

Pawan Kalyan is taking a big break from acting and is likely to join shooting after 2-3 months. OG is learned to have postponed to 2025 and Hari Hara Veera Mallu for 2025 Summer. Pawan Kalyan who is also active in politics has taken time for campaigning. So it feels he might have gotten exhausted with the trips and wanted to take a break. Pawan Kalyan wouldn’t take part in any films shooting.

NTR’s starrer Devara is now eyeing this release date in September month. This is a golden opportunity for Devara which fixed its release date on 10th October tentatively. Tamil Actor Dhanush’s upcoming film Raayan is set for release this June. Shankar’s directorial Indian 2 is said to be postponed so Raayan has locked on to June 13th for Bakrid Weekend. Other Actor Vikram starrer, Thangalaan is said to be looking on the same date and is now set for a box office clash.

Raayan is being directed by Dhanush besides acting in the lead role as well. Sandeep Kishan is also playing a role in the film. Raayan’s first look has already been released and the lyrical song for the film was announced recently. On the other hand, Thangalaan starring Vikram and Malavika Mohanan is being directed by Pa. Ranjith, fame of Kabali and Kaala. The film is also shot on a heavy budget and will have a big pan India release.

Both films will clash at the box office with Raayan choosing June as the release month. Dhanush is eyeing big to score a blockbuster after his recent okayish hit, Captain Miller. Captain Miller was projected as a Pan India biggie but ended up being a normal hit. He has also lined up Kubera under the direction of Sekhar Kammula recently. Vikram too needs a big hit. So this will be an interesting clash for Vikram and Dhanush.
