‘Mass Ka Dass’ Vishwak Sen is a notable actor in Telugu cinema; his last theatrical outing, Das Ka Dhamki (2023), a mass commercial entertainer, emerged as a winner at the box office. Basking in the film’s success, the actor has unexpectedly chosen to star in an experimental film called Gaami (2024).
Made as an epic action adventure drama, the film carried good buzz due to its theatrical trailer that promised a unique theatrical experience. To capitalise on this, the makers went for early US premieres a day before release, where it received positive reviews. The film eventually hit the screens in Telugu states on March 8th, on the eve of Maha Shivarathri, which too had the same reception, thus posting good opening numbers, particularly in urban areas. Trade experts predict a massive weekend ahead for this sci-fi epic film.
Another film that was released alongside the Vishwak Sen-starrer is Gopichand’s Bhimaa. Unlike Gaami, this is an outright potboiler film aimed at the masses. This flick, too, gathered some positive reviews from audiences and registered decent numbers at the box office. While it may appear like a competitive scenario, it is indeed not since these films belong to contrasting genres and target audiences. All in all, a promising weekend is ahead for the Tollywood box office.
