RRR creates a new benchmark in Netflix

SS Rajamouli’s action drama RRR is creating benchmarks on OTT as well. After creating a massive storm at the worldwide box-office, this Jr NTR and Ram Charan starrer premiered on Netflix and Zee 5 last month.

RRR has been watched for 18,360,000 hours on Netflix from 23rd May to 29th May. This has made it the most viewed non-English film on the platform. RRR’s success on OTT is also a testimony on the massive popularity earned by the trio of Rajamouli, Jr NTR, and Ram Charan.

The Hindi version is streaming on Netflix while Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions are streaming on Zee 5. Zee 5 had initially planned for a pay-per-view model for the film. Many movie lovers were opposed to this step and claimed this will only deter the audience from watching the film again. Hence the OTT giant scrapped this idea.

RRR’s digital rights fetched huge amounts for the makers last year and got them a record deal. Pen Studios had acquired the digital rights for this film which it later sold to Netflix for Hindi and Zee for other languages.
