Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office: Needs another 200 Cr Gross to beat Chhaava

The film needs to collect another 200 Cr gross from here to become 2025’s biggest grosser. As the 3rd weekend has the advantage of Diwali, and looking at the 2nd weekend collections, this now looks possible.

If only the pre-release had been stronger, the spiritual drama acted and directed by Rishab Shetty could have had much bigger numbers on the opening weekend.

Salman Khan Fires Back at Murugadoss

0

Salman Khan has finally spoken out about what went wrong with Sikandar, taking a firm stance against director A.R. Murugadoss, who was holding the actor responsible for the film’s failure.

The superstar explained that he used to reach the sets around 9 PM, which might have caused some inconvenience during the shoot, but he clarified that he was dealing with a rib injury at the time. Initially, Sikandar was a project led by A.R. Murugadoss and producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

However, Sajid later backed out, and Murugadoss also moved on from Sikandar to work on a South Indian film, according to Salman Khan.

Salman further pointed out that the director’s recent release, Madharaasi, was another large-scale project. He remarked that the actor in that film used to arrive on set as early as 6 AM, adding with sarcasm that it turned out to be an even “bigger blockbuster” than Sikandar, which is clearly a satirical jab referring to its failure.

Fans appreciated Salman’s straightforward response and felt that his comments gave Murugadoss a much-needed reality check.

Kantara chapter 1 had a super strong 2nd weekend at the box office as the film performed beyond everyone’s expectations. On the 2nd weekend, the spiritual action drama has collected more than 100 Cr in India, which is a terrific achievement.

The 2nd weekend strong performance of Kantara Chapter 1 also indicates that the movie will have a very good run at the box office, and the 3rd weekend will have the advantage of the Diwali festival as well.

Overall, worldwide, the film has collected around 600 Cr gross in 11 days. The good thing is that the film’s numbers are still strong in all languages. Now the trade expectations also go to 750 Cr+, and the Kantara prequel also has a chance of becoming 2025’s biggest grosser by targeting Chhaava.

Every Industry Scores 10M Overseas, Except Tollywood

0

The year 2025 has been great for Indian cinema at the overseas box office, with several films becoming massive hits. All major film industries crossed the $10 million mark overseas, except for the Telugu film industry-Tollywood.

The Malayalam film industry continued its strong performance from last year, while the Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada industries also delivered successful films.

Here are the films that earned more than $10 million overseas this year:

  • Chhaava
  • Empuraan
  • Thudarum
  • Saiyaraa
  • Coolie
  • Lokah: Chapter 1
  • Kantara: Chapter 1

As mentioned, Tollywood is the only major industry that didn’t reach the $10 million milestone. The main reason is the lack of a strong pan-India film from Telugu cinema this year.

Pawan Kalyan’s OG was expected to be a big hit overseas, but it didn’t maintain momentum after release. No other Telugu film this year had the potential to reach that level either.

Meanwhile, the Malayalam industry made a huge impact, with Empuraan, Thudarum, and Lokah: Chapter 1 all crossing $10 million overseas. These three films helped Mollywood outperform even the larger film industries in 2025.

Since wrapping up Ustaad Bhagat Singh, Pawan Kalyan hasn’t committed to another film. His dates are confirmed with two producers, one is Ram Talluri and the other is Dil Raju. It is being said that the Vakeel Saab producer is planning an impactful social entertainer with Pawan Kalyan under Anil Ravipudi’s direction.

Word has it that Director Surender Reddy is busy writing the script for Ram Talluri’s film. There is a buzz in industry circles that this film is likely to go on floors as the next movie of Pawan Kalyan, and then he will start Dil Raju’s movie.

Dil Raju is planning for an Anil Ravipudi-Pawan Kalyan collaboration, and reportedly Ravipudi will make a social message film much like Bhagavanth Kesari.

No doubt this will be a brilliant combo, as Anil Ravipudi is one of the top directors in the Telugu film industry. Audiences will be super pumped to see Pawan Kalyan in his films.

The Raja Saab Telugu Breakeven Valued Over 200 Cr

0

Prabhas’s The Raja Saab’s buzz has gone to a big level after its teaser and trailer were released. The film is gearing up for release on 9th January, 2026, and the latest news is that the Telugu version’s breakeven point of the film is valued at over 200 Cr.

Currently, the team is shooting the songs in foreign locations, and the first single is gearing up for release on Prabhas’ birthday.

The film’s business is in final discussions, and a few areas are already being closed. The business quoted prices, and distributors’ negotiations are huge. Reportedly, the Andhra (6 Territories) price is around a 75 – 80 Cr ratio. Ceeded at over 25 Cr, and Nizam will be over 60 Cr.

So, the total Telugu states business will reach 160 or 165 Cr, while overseas rights are also sold for a huge price. If we look worldwide, The Raja Saab Telugu version itself can go near the 225 Cr range, which is a huge business.

Even though there are some final negotiations and terms, the business will certainly be over 200 Cr, which shows that the makers are banking on the buzz of The Raja Saab among audiences and the huge stardom of Prabhas.

Now Prabhas’s films are doing massive business, and his films are not limited only to Telugu and are aiming for big numbers in all languages.

Even with many super-strong combinations, several big-star films are not crossing 200 Cr in business in Telugu. Prabhas, however, is achieving this with director Maruthi, which shows his massive stardom, along with Maruthi’s effective teaser and trailer cuts, which played a significant role in this record business.
