Ajith Casts his Vote Before 7 AM

0

Actor Ajith Kumar arrived early at a polling station in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai, on Thursday and became the first person in Tamil Nadu to cast his vote before 7 AM. There was no grand show or heavy security around him, just a calm and simple arrival. However, his presence naturally drew attention, as fans and fellow voters noticed him taking part in the democratic process.

Other Celebrities Exercise Their Franchise

Following Ajith Kumar, Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President Khushbu Sundar cast her vote in Mylapore. Speaking to ANI after voting, she appeared emotional yet proud. “You can see the smile on my face that says it all. Casting my vote is my biggest democratic right, and it means a lot to me as a citizen,” she said.

Superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, along with his daughter Shruti Haasan, also exercised their franchise in Chennai. Meanwhile, actor Vijay, who is contesting in the elections, cast his vote in Neelankarai. Actor Dhanush voted at St. Francis Xavier Middle School in Alwarpet.

Tamil Nadu’s Electoral Battle

In Tamil Nadu, the main electoral contest is shaping up between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance, which includes the Indian National Congress, DMDK, and VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance led by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), with the Bharatiya Janata Party and PMK as its partners. While the DMK is banking on its welfare schemes and governance record, the AIADMK-led NDA is aiming for a strong political comeback.

Actor Vijay has also stepped into electoral politics with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking his debut in elections.

Drishyam 3 Faces Legal Trouble Over Amazon Prime OTT Rights

0

Drishyam 3, the much-anticipated third installment of the Drishyam franchise, has hit an unexpected roadblock in the courtroom. The Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to Amazon Prime Video, restraining Aashirvad Cinemas from entering into any fresh OTT agreements for Drishyam 3.

What Led to the Legal Dispute?

The legal clash began after Amazon argued that it already holds exclusive digital streaming rights to the Drishyam franchise under a Master Video Licence Agreement dated October 16, 2020. According to the platform, any attempt by the producers to finalize a new OTT deal with a third party would directly violate that contract.

On the other side, the film’s producers, Aashirvad Cinemas, reportedly sent an email on March 31, 2026, claiming that Amazon’s rights had “fallen away” and proceeded to explore alternative offers. This unilateral move during ongoing negotiations triggered the legal action.

Court’s Observation and Interim Order

Taking the matter seriously, the Delhi High Court observed that Amazon had established a prima facie case. Acting on this, the court issued an interim restraining order on April 7, 2026, preventing the producers from creating or finalizing any third-party OTT rights for Drishyam 3.

The order prevents Aashirvad Cinemas from selling or signing any OTT deal with third parties, including rights for the Malayalam version, dubbed versions, and even remake rights.

Legal Route Taken

Amazon approached the court under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, seeking urgent protection of its contractual rights. The platform argued that under the agreement’s “Amazon Option” clause, it retained preferential rights over future titles in the franchise.

The court’s decision to grant interim relief signals that Amazon’s claims carry substantial legal weight at this stage. This isn’t the first time OTT rights have sparked legal battles — Mohanlal recently moved Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights, while Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan faced OTT deal complications with Prime Video earlier this year.

What This Means for Drishyam 3

While the legal proceedings continue, this development puts a temporary halt on the film’s OTT distribution plans. For now, the case stands in favor of Amazon Prime Video, and the future of Drishyam 3‘s digital release will depend on how the dispute unfolds in the coming weeks.

This courtroom drama adds a new layer of suspense to a franchise already known for its gripping twists — but this time, the tension is very real.

Tamil Producers Reject 8-Week OTT Window Demand

0

The Tamil Producers have taken a firm stand against the 8-week OTT window demand, refusing to comply with the exhibitors’ requirements. The Tamil Film Producers Council has rejected the mandate proposed by the Tamil Film Distributors Association and Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association.

Decision Pending General Body Meeting

Recently, the South Indian Film Producers Association (SIFPA) stated that OTT windows cannot be committed as per exhibitors’ demand. Following suit, Tamil producers have now declared that the 8-week OTT window demand is not feasible for them.

The Tamil Film Producers Council refuses to agree to the 8-week OTT window demanded by the Tamil Film Distributors Association and Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association. A final decision on this matter will be taken during the General Body Meeting scheduled for April 26, 2026.

This development comes weeks after South Indian films were expected to follow the 8-week OTT window rule, similar to Bollywood’s mandate.

SIFPA’s Stand on OTT Windows

A few days ago, the South Indian Film Producers Association (SIFPA) was newly formed and rejected unilateral decisions by exhibitors regarding mandatory 8-week OTT release windows. Representing producers across Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam industries, SIFPA demands consultation, citing financial risks. Members were advised not to sign individual 8-week OTT commitments.

2026 Summer: A Big Loss for Telugu Film Industry

0

Tollywood is experiencing a significant setback as the Telugu industry summer 2026 season passes without major theatrical releases. The summer period, traditionally the most lucrative window for Telugu cinema, has been notably absent of big-ticket films since the post-COVID era.

The Golden Summer Tradition

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, summer used to be the biggest and best season for Tollywood theatres. The April-May-June window, coinciding with school holidays, traditionally drew large family audiences and strong footfalls. Multiple big-budget films would line up for release during this period, making it the most competitive window in the Telugu film calendar.

Summer 2026 Drought

This year tells a different story. There is not a single big movie this summer, and not even tier 2 or noted movies have been released, leaving audiences and theatre owners disappointed. The deficit in footfalls has hit exhibitors hard, with many theatres reporting losses during what should be peak season.

Until the last two or three years, at least a couple of big movies or a few small to medium-budget movies getting released during the April/May/June period was the norm. That pattern has completely broken down in 2026, marking one of the weakest summer seasons in recent Tollywood history.

The Summer 2026 release slate remained uncertain even as the season approached, with major projects postponing their plans to later windows.

Summer 2027 Revival Plans

However, next summer is expected to bring back the vintage days for Telugu Film industry. There are massive films set for release in Summer 2027, including Spirit, Varanasi, and the highly anticipated NTRPrashanth Neel collaboration. These announcements have given exhibitors hope that the summer blockbuster tradition will return to Tollywood.

Known for his refined taste, Allu Arjun is expected to opt for a design that blends modern architecture with luxurious detailing, making it one of the most premium celebrity homes in the city. With construction progressing at a steady pace, the housewarming ceremony is likely to take place by the end of the year, marking a major personal milestone.

A New Chapter with ‘Raaka’

On the work front, Allu Arjun is gearing up for his next big film, Raaka, which is already generating considerable buzz. Coming off the massive success of the Pushpa franchise, expectations from this project are naturally sky-high. While the makers have kept key details under wraps, Raaka is said to be mounted on a grand scale, aiming to appeal to a wide, pan-India audience. The film is expected to showcase Allu Arjun in a powerful new avatar, potentially pushing his on-screen persona into fresh territory while retaining his mass appeal.

Can Vamshi Paidipally Revive Salman Khan’s Declining Career?

0

Salman Khan, once the undisputed king of mass entertainers, has seen a steady decline at the box office over the past few years. Since the blockbuster success of Sultan (2016), his filmography has largely failed to deliver consistent hits. Barring Tiger 3, most of his releases—including Tubelight, Race 3, Bharat, Radhe, and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan—have either underperformed or outright flopped. For a star who once guaranteed ₹200–300 crore hits with ease, this phase marks a significant shift in fortunes.

What Went Wrong?

A major factor behind this slump has been the over-reliance on formula-driven storytelling. Salman Khan’s films continued to bank heavily on his star power, often overlooking the need for strong scripts and evolving narratives. While this approach worked for years, audience expectations have clearly changed, especially in the post-pandemic era. Today’s viewers are more content-driven, as seen with the rise of films like RRR, which combined scale with solid storytelling. Salman’s recent projects, on the other hand, have been criticized for weak writing, outdated tropes, and lack of freshness.

A Make-or-Break Comeback Ahead

This is where his upcoming collaboration with Vamshi Paidipally becomes crucial. Backed by producer Dil Raju, the project is being seen as Salman Khan’s best shot at a strong comeback. Known for delivering emotionally engaging commercial films, Vamshi Paidipally could bring the right mix of mass appeal and narrative depth that Salman’s recent films have lacked. If executed well, this film could not only revive Salman Khan’s box office standing but also reposition him for the evolving tastes of modern audiences, making it a defining moment in his career trajectory.

‘Toxic’ Shot in English: Yash Eyes a Global Breakthrough

0

Yash’s Toxic is taking a significant leap by being shot primarily in English, signaling a clear intent to reach audiences far beyond India. This creative decision places the film in a unique space, aiming directly at the global market rather than relying on dubbed versions. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film promises a fresh and unconventional take on the gangster genre, blending raw intensity with a more nuanced, character-driven narrative rarely seen in such stories.

Star-Studded Cast and Power-Packed Music

Apart from Yash, Toxic features an impressive ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles, bringing a rare female-heavy dynamic to a gangster film. The music is composed by a strong lineup including Ravi Basrur, Vishal Mishra, and Tanishk Bagchi, with Basrur also handling the background score, ensuring a powerful sonic experience to match the film’s scale.

Big Ambitions, Global Expectations

With its international approach and strong creative backing, Toxic is slated for a theatrical release on June 4, 2026. The film is being positioned as a global cinematic event, drawing comparisons to RRR in terms of ambition and reach. If executed well, Toxic could mark another milestone moment for Indian cinema, proving that homegrown stories can resonate on a truly global stage.
