Mirchi to BAN: Koratala Siva’s box-office review

Successful director Koratala Siva is celebrating his 46th birthday today. Wishes are pouring in from all over the industry for Koratala who has given Tollywood some memorable films in the last 8 years. The ‘Acharya’ director started his career as a story and dialogue writer. He has worked on some memorable films like Bhadra, Munna, Okkadunnadu, Brindavanam, Simha, and Oosaravelli as a writer. Mirchi

The film that made the industry look up and notice the craftsmanship of Koratala Siva, Mirchi proved to be the perfect launchpad for him. Siva presented Prabhas in a never seen before avatar and explored both the class and mass angles of the actor. A gripping screenplay and chartbuster music coupled with Prabhas’ screen presence made Mirchi Prabhas’ most successful box-office outing back then. Achieving success with the first film itself is a tough act, but what’s even tougher is continuing the success streak. Post the landmark hit Mirchi, Koratala Siva teamed up with Super Star Mahesh Babu for Srimanthudu. The movie released in 2015 achieved stupendous success and ended up as a non-Baahubali industry hit. This was a massive achievement for a director handling just his second film. The action drama crossed the Rs 75 crore share mark in just its 16th day and established multiple domestic and overseas records. Srimanthudu established Koratala as a name to reckon with. Janatha Garage

After an industry hit, Koratala Siva teamed up with Young Tiger NTR for the first time. Keeping up with his track record, Koratala scored a hat-trick and gave NTR the biggest hit of his career. The action drama once again perfectly infused message with mass elements and entertained both class as well as mass sections. Critics appreciated the director for handling the vigilante drama effectively. Janatha Garage ended up as a super hit and breached Rs 75 crore for the second time in his career.

Bharat Ane Nenu

Joining hands with Mahesh for the second time, no movie in Koratala’s career created as much buzz as Bharat Ane Nenu. With a movie like Srimanthudu in their account and Mahesh essaying the role of a Chief Minister, the expectations on this movie was at an all-time high. The duo didn’t disappoint the audience and successfully delivered another massive box-office success. Bharat Ane Nenu’s overseas performance was phenomenal and broke many records. With this political action drama, Koratala joined the exclusive Rs 100 crore share club and marked the fourth successive hit of his career.

Koratala Siva has now joined hands with Mega Star Chiranjeevi for his next action drama Acharya. Tollywood getting back to sets

The film industry has been one of the worst impacted ones due to the pandemic. Movie shoots across the globe have been canceled due to the second wave and Tollywood is no different. In some cases, films that were ready to release had to either postpone the release or go for OTT release. The movies which were still in production had no option but to wait out.

Now with the situation easing up a bit, Tollywood is slowly getting back on its feet. The shootings of some films have resumed while the others are gearing up to resume soon with all precautions.

Radhe Shyam, Pushpa, Thank You, Khiladi, Shakunthalam and few more movies are all set to resume shooting in next two weeks. Similarly, RRR, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, Acharya and other movies are planning to go on sets from July 1st or 2nd week.

This is a great sign for the industry and cine workers who’ve ben impacted financially due to the pandemic.

Nani launches his next production ‘Meet Cute’

Natural Star Nani has announced his next production under his banner Wall Poster Cinema. The film will be a female-centric film Meet Cute. This will be the production house’s fourth film after Awe, HIT and HIT:2. Nani’s sister Deepthi Ganta will be directing this film and marking her debut. Deepthi has earlier directed a short film Anaganaga Oka Naana.

“Wall Poster Cinema Production No 4 #MeetCute A new journey begins today. This one’s special for more than one reason,” Nani posted on social media.

The production house also released a couple of stills from the sets. The photos featured actor Sathyaraj along with Nani who’s holding a clapboard. He will be next seen in Tuck Jagadish and is currently also shooting for Shyam Singha Roy.

SR Kalyanamandapam release date locked

Kiran Abbavaram and Priyanka Jawalkar starrer SR Kalyanamandapam has finally locked its release date after multiple hurdles. The romantic drama will be releasing on August 6th. It was earlier rumoured that SR Kalyanamandapam will also join the ranks of OTT releases. However, the makers recently took to social media to announce that the film will release only in theatres.

Reportedly SR Kalyanamandapam makers have turned down a couple of good deals from OTT platforms and decided to go with a theatrical release. Srikanth Gade has directed SR Kalyanamandapam the film is produced by Pramod and Raju under Elite Entertainments banner

The film has already created a good buzz with its music. The songs Chusale Kallara and Chukkala Chunni have already become chartbusters and have recorded 50 million views each. The romantic drama also stars Tanikella Bharani, Sai Kumar, Tulasi in key roles.

Top two Producers oppose Rentrak in Telugu States

Tracking movie collections accurately can be quite a tough task in the absence of a proper mechanism. To ensure accuracy, the entertainment industry uses the services of measurement and research agency Rentrak. Rentrak is the official tracking portal installed in theaters to track the gross Collections. This system has been implemented and running successfully in many countries.

Around three years ago, Rentrak’s parent company Comscore planned to start its services in India
Rentrak has been installed in many major multiplex chains across in India and has been tracking and analysing gross figures.

The global measurement and tracking organization planned to expand its network to Telugu states as well. However, this move reportedly has been strongly opposed by two top producers in Tollywood. The producers who own multiple theatres across the Telugu states have opposed installing the system.

As of now, very few multiplexes in Telugu states use Rentrak. While the system might face certain technical hurdles in installation in single screens. It is overall a great idea to have a solid mechanism to track the box-office figures accurately.

Nithiin goes down the memory lane

Nithiin penned an emotional note on social media marking his 19 years in the film industry. It was on this day in 2002 that the ‘Bhishma’ actor made his debut with ‘Jayam. The film went on to become a massive hit with Nithiin grabbing a Filmfare Awards(South) Best Male Debut.

Directed by Teja, the film was a major box-office success and received great critical acclaim. Nithiin went down on a nostalgic trip and thanked his fans for the support. The movie established the then 19 year old actor as one of the bankable young faces in the industry.

Akkineni family eyeing the digital space

Family Man actor to star in Pawan Kalyan’s Ayyappanum Koshiyum remake

Family Man 2 dropped in earlier this month and has received rave reviews. Along with Manoj Bajpai and Samantha, one performance that has stood out is that of Ravindra Vijay. Ravindra’s character Muthu Pandian has won hearts all over with critics appreciating his portrayal of a sincere intelligence officer.

“The way the character was written has clicked with many,” says Ravindra Vijay. “The manner in which he straddles between two languages, Tamil and Hindi, and the way he manages two varied perspectives, as both an insider as well as an outsider, made the role challenging.”

It is being reported that the multilingual actor will be playing a key role in Pawan Kalyan’s Ayyappanum Koshiyum remake. The actor is quite familiar to the Telugu audience as he played the role of Jognath in Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya. Jognath was a negative character who is the main nemesis of Satyadev in the film.

Sagar Chandra will be directing the remake. Nithya Menen has been roped in for a key role. Aishwarya Rajesh , who was last seen in World Famous Lover will be paired opposite Rana.
