Only Money matters for Suresh Babu?

0

Suresh Babu’s decision to go for an OTT release for Drushyam 2 has raised quite a few eyebrows. The decision has bemused many especially when he had made strong statements on the OTT killing cinema theatres a while back. He even suggested movies to premiere digitally only after 2 months of its theatrical release.

At a time when even small movies are directly releasing in theatres, it is still a mystery as to why Suresh Babu is again going for OTT. During Narappa release, he claimed that the other producer insisted on OTT. And now fans are wondering about what conspired now and why even Drushyam 2 is going for OTT release. The lack of updates on Rana’s Virata Parvam is another cause of concern for the fans. Many are wondering if that too will go for OTT release.

A star like Venkatesh can effortlessly pull the audience to the theatres. And with Drushyam being a low budget film, even a mixed talk can easily land profits for Suresh Babu.

This is making fans wonder if the move has been only made for extra profits. A film maker of Suresh Babu’s caliber and track record who earlier supported industry and small films doing so has not gone down well with many.

Rajamouli’s smart move for RRR Hindi release

0

SS Rajamouli is a known visionary not just in terms of movie-making but also in release planning. The director of magnum opus RRR has just played a masterstroke which might well come in handy in the coming days.

The movie will be going for own release for the Hindi version and will not be having any tie-ups. SS Rajamouli very well knows the massive potential of the Hindi market. Apart from understanding its potential, he’s also one of the few who has the capability of completely attracting the market.

With Baahubali 2, he created massive waves across the country and became a household name. The movie netted Rs 511 Cr. while the next biggest blockbuster Dangal stood at Rs 388 crores. This experience will come in extremely handy for RRR especially when Rajamouli is going for own release. The director is extremely confident of the content in hand and just with slight positive talk, the movie can become massively profitable for the team.

Boyapati’s producer facing losses second time in a row

0

Boyapati Srinu is one of the directors who understand the commercial aspects of films very well. His taking, screenplay and subject treatment revolves around the commercial viability of the film. This is the reason many stars and producers show eagerness to work with him.

However, in the case of Miriyala Ravinder Reddy, this has turned to be the opposite case. The producer earlier worked with Boyapati on Jaya Janaki Nayaka where the latter outstretched the budget beyond Rs 40 + crores. The movie didn’t run as per expectations and left losses to the producer.

To compensate for this Boyapati teamed up with Miriyala Ravindra Reddy for Akhanda. Now, in case of Akhanda, something similar is happening. The movie shoot faced constant delays due to Covid and the release date had to be pushed time and again. Now due to business revisions and overshooting of the budget, producers’ concerns are rising day by day.

Huge blocker for AP Government’s online ticketing portal

0

Andhra Pradesh Government’s decision to come up with its own online ticketing portal is into its initial stages. The plan, however, might run into an unexpected roadblock. Reportedly, the cost of setting up an online ticketing portal, establishing and maintaining infrastructure and other assets run into about Rs 1000 crores.

Players like Book My Show and Just Tickets among others have already been in the field for a while. A large number of exhibitors have entered into an agreement with these private portals long back.

If the government goes ahead as per its original plan, then this online ticketing portal company’s agreement with the theatres would immediately come to an end. The sudden termination of the contract would bring in losses running into crores for the private online players. These portals would have no choice but to take legal action against the exhibitors.

Most of the exhibitors have a 5-year agreement with private portals by charging Rs 5 lacs to Rs 35 lacs. This is a solid deal for the exhibitors and many are not accepting to put their theaters in AP ticketing Portal

These unplanned contingencies are now fast becoming a massive roadblock in the government’s plan. It needs to be seen how they counter it.

Sharwanand and Siddharth starrer Mahasamudram is out on Netflix. The movie released on 14th October to mixed reviews and was a failure at the box office. Ajay Bhupathi directed this multistarrer while AK Entertainments produced it. The film also stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Anu Emmanuel in lead roles.

Maha Samudram was one of the most anticipated movies and marked the return of Siddharth to Telugu films after a long time. The film’s music, cinematography and action sequences were well appreciated by the critics. Ajay Bhupathi, who made a return after hugely successful RX100 expressed immense confidence in the film. However, it failed to live up to the audience’s expectations and hype.

The film is now available on Netflix in both Telugu and Tamil. You can now watch the movie here.

Case against Dulquer Salman for Kurup

0

Dulquer Salman’s Kurup released grandly on Friday and has been attracting large crowds to the theatres. The movie is being seen as a revival of the Mollywood market post the pandemic. While the film is still running in theatres, the movie and Dulquer Salman have got into legal trouble.

According to the reports, a PIL has been filed in the High Court claiming the movie threatens the privacy of Sukumara Kurup, who is a criminal on whom the story is based. According to the PIL, the High Court has not issued a stay on the film. But they have informed the center, state government, Interpol, and the producers about the same.

Srinath Rajendran has directed this crime drama and it starts Shobhita Dhulipala and Manoj Bajpayee in key roles. The film is based on life and journey of Kerala’s most famous fugitive criminal Sukumara Kurup.

Dulquer Salman is essaying the lead role of a conman who murdered another man in 1984 to fake his own death and claim the money of insurance of Rs 8,00,000.

Why different rules for Nani?

0

Natural Star Nani has been going through a rough time when it comes to theatrical releases. His last two films ‘V’ and ‘Tuck Jagadish’ both released on Amazon Prime Video much to his disappointment. These OTT releases, however, made Nani a soft target of a number of distributors and exhibitors. The trade group blamed him and attacked him via press conferences and public statements.

A lot of hue and cry was made during Tuck Jagadish OTT release with many exhibitors and distributors seeking a ban on Nani.

Compare this to the treatment being meted out to other biggies. SureshBabu & Venkatesh’s own film, Drushyam2 is going for OTT release. Even their last film Narappa also went for a direct OTT release. Despite this, no one batted an eyelid or made any opposing statements.

No one blamed Suresh Babu or Venkatesh because they are big names in the industry. A movie’s release whether on OTT or theatres is completely a producer’s call. It was really unfortunate at the dual treatment served in Nani’s case. It’s time the entire trade fraternity stops giving lectures.

Shocking: All Tollywood biggies to be deficit release?

0

Covid has made a total mockery of the plans made by industries across the world. Tollywood too is not unaffected by this and the business adjustments of a number of Tollywood biggies are proof of that.

Take the case of movies such as Akhanda, Pushpa and Shyam Singha Roy. All these films are some of the most ambitious and career-highest budget movies of their respective heroes. However, Covid and the scenario that preceded it has left a massive impact on these films.

The theatrical business of these Tollywood biggies is now reduced by at least 30%. And a trade deficit seems to be the most likely scenario if this situation continues.

Not just in AP, the situation seems to be the same in Nizam as well. Distributors are not ready to take risks and are quite wary as recent films did not generate much revenue.
