Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera was released today in theatres and has opened to ordinary collections and has received mixed responses from audiences. Despite being backed by a heavy budget from one of the leading production companies in India, YRF Productions, and massive promotions, Shamshera has fallen flat on its face.
We no longer exist in a time where a movie with mixed talk survives at the box office. If at all this happens, it is very rare, as in the case of Pushpa: The Rise. If a movie gets a mixed response, it is almost sure to fail at the box office.
With low hype and even lower advance bookings across all regions, Shamshera has opened disastrously. The Hindi version of the film opened with less than 30 % occupancy. Whereas, the Telugu version occupancy has been abysmal to put it kindly. The Hyderabad advances were close to 11 % on day 1 and less than 6 % in other cities.
Despite Ranbir Kapoor’s hard work and brilliant performances of the lead actors, a flat storyline with no originality has been the reason for Shamshera’s demise. Unless the film sees an upward trajectory on the weekend, it might dive head first into the disaster zone. A lot of Bollywood trade experts had high hopes pinned on Shamshera but it is not the savior of Bollywood.
Shamshera stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles. Karan Malhotra is the director of the film and Mithoon is the music director.
