Nikhil’s 18 Pages is the second release of the week and like other movies from the young hero, this film also has a novel concept and fresh take. The film sees a return of the blockbuster pairing of Nikhil and Anupama Parameswaran and has so far managed to create a positive buzz with good music and an interesting trailer. How’s the execution and did Nikhil manage to catch the audience’s fancy yet again? Let’s check out.

Story: Nikhil (Siddhu) believes more in rationality and technology than emotions. His outlook on life is challenged when he comes across Nandini’s (Anupama Parameswaran) diary. How does he process this new information and what impact it has on his life? What happens to the relationship between Siddhu and Nandini is what the movie follows.

Performances: Nikhil has done these roles in the past and predictably looks natural and convincing as Siddhu. His characterization and performance have no issues at all but still, you will find yourself asking for more. More edge to the character with better execution from the director’s end in terms of character depth would have helped Nikhil even more. Anupama Parameswaran has a steady character flow and is efficient in her role. But, again just like Nikhil, the lack of memorable moments and intriguing characterization makes the overall role asking for more.

Analysis: On paper, 18 Pages is a terrific concept by Sukumar. However, the lack of emotional connection and unstable narration might lead to the audience losing interest in the second half. The love story doesn’t pull your heart’s strings as the director intended to and the basic premise loses its charm as the movie proceeds towards the climax. The constant jumping between the genres also could be slightly discomforting for many and a consistent narration would have heightened the movie experience further.

Considering the sudden surge in Covid-19 cases in China, US, Japan and other nations, the Indian Central Government has directed all the State Governments to be careful regarding the guidelines which are to be followed to avoid Corona.

Karnataka Govt has made few rules according to the orders. On Thursday, the Karnataka Govt said it has made face masks mandatory in closed spaces such as theaters and malls, even those that are not air-conditioned.

Following recommendations of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), Health Minister K. Sudhakar held a meeting with officials at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here.

Sudhakar mentioned places like schools, colleges, theaters and other office areas must follow the mandatory mask norm. Open spaces are not an issue,” Sudhakar stated, adding that Karnataka is awaiting guidelines from the Union government.

Sudhakar said all Influenza-Related Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases will be tested compulsorily for Covid-19, even if they are asymptomatic.

Ruling out the need for mass screening at airports, Sudhakar told the government would stick to random testing of 2 percent of passenger arrivals. “It is too early to talk about the transmittable speed of the new variant,” he added.

Meanwhile, the state has directed district administrations to take stock of oxygen and ICU beds. The government has also asked district hospitals to reserve beds for COVID-19 patients as a precautionary measure.

The worsening COVID-19 condition in China and a few other countries has rung alarm bells for the States as well as the Center. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya yesterday informed the House regarding various measures that have been pressed into action.

Measuring the situation, Center has issued guidelines effective December 24, including mandatory random testing of 2 percent of international passengers at airports on arrival.

Ravi Teja’s Dhamaka is this Friday’s big release and it is coming amidst a lot of expectations. ‘Mass Maharaja’ fans are eager to catch their star in a massy avatar after long and Ravi Teja is also eager to score a hit after the debacle of Khiladi, Ramarao On Duty. He has teamed up with Trinadha Rao Nakkina for the first time and let’s see if the film has enough to pull the audience back in time to Vintage Ravi Teja Days

Story: Dhamaka is the story of protagonists fighting against all the odds. Ravi Teja is seen as Anand Chakravarthy an industrialist and Swamy a middle-class man. What happens when a corporate giant looks to take over the lives of middle-class people and how Anand Chakravarthy and Swamy’s lives get intertwined is what the movie follows

Performances: Ravi Teja as Swamy is in his element and performs with terrific ease. He has done this role numerous times in his career and carries the performance effortlessly. He gives an equally measured performance as Anand Chakravarthy and carries the film entirely on his shoulder. Sreeleela is a revelation in this film and matches Ravi Teja’s energy effortlessly. While her role doesn’t have much scope for performance, she shines throughout her scenes and is definitely a star in making. The extended cast of Tanikella Bharani, Jayaram, Sachin Khedkar and Tulasi are dependable as ever and breeze through their characters.

Analysis: One of the biggest weaknesses of Dhamaka is Trinadha Rao Nakkina’s execution. While the film has a basic premise of corporate vs commoner, he tries too hard to make it unique and this is where the movie fails. Conscious decisions have been taken to make the movie different from the routine commercial movie and that’s where people might feel disconnected. The predictability of the plot and lack of surprise with the twists are other major drawbacks of this mass entertainer.
