Ramabanam is an heavy loss venture for all involved parties

Gopichand’s Ramabanam was released to poor reviews and weak word of mouth with the audience as well as critics terming the movie outdated and routine. The movie is performing terribly in theatres and is on its way to becoming a box office failure. Apart from the movie’s poor execution, there were several issues during its production stage as well that led to higher production costs.

Reportedly director Sriwass’ prolonged production schedules without proper pre-planning led to a higher production budget. In fact, the production almost doubled and so did the time taken to shoot the movie which led to some differences between Gopichand and Sriwass.

The makers were forced to release the movie in deficit as the business didn’t work out as expected. Now, after the release of the film and disastrous numbers, Ramabanam is expected to end up with less than 5Cr at the box office. The film has emerged as a heavy loss venture for all the involved parties.

Parusuram and Naga Chaitanya were supposed to do a movie in 14 Reels Plus banner. The movie was announced amidst massive expectations. However, it all got derailed as Parasuram got the opportunity of directing Sarkaru Vaari Paata. Naga Chaitanya himself suggested using this opportunity of working with Superstar Mahesh Babu and decided to collaborate on their project right after this.

After Sarkaru Vaari Paata, Parsuram looked for other big opportunities and tried to do a film with Balakrishna putting Naga Chaitanya on hold. This apparently created angered Chaitu. During the custody promotional interview, directly expressed this by saying Parsuram wasted his time and he doesn’t even want to discuss the issue as it’s just a waste of his time.

Naga Chaitanya is busy with the promotions of his upcoming project Custody set to release on May 12th. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the bilingual film’s recently released trailer was well received and the unit is confident of its success. The magnum opus and the dream project of Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan 2 was released last week. A sequel to the first part, Ponniyin Selvan 2 opened to mostly positive talk but there was also a section that felt that the movie was too slow-paced. Keeping the quality of the film aside, let us take a look at the commerce aspect.

Here is a breakdown of the worldwide box office collections of Ponniyin Selvan 2 in the first week.

The film has collected around 92 crores in gross collection in Tamil Nadu. The film is doing great business in the Tamil-speaking regions. Coming to Kerala, the business is around 14 crores and in Karnataka, it is around 16 crores.

In the Telugu states, a total of 12 crores is reported. Overall, in India, the film has collected around 150 crores in gross collection. In the overseas regions, the film has collected a whopping 105 crores, making the complete collection 255 crores in just the first week.

Director Sudipto Sen’s film, The Kerala Story, hit the screens on Friday amid massive controversy. On its release, the film surprisingly received poor reviews from the Bollywood critics, but the film seems to have impressed the audience, as it is proved by the good start it got at the box office. Starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani, The Kerala Story was earlier officially described as the story of more than 32,000 Kerala women who have been allegedly been radicalized by Islamic fundamentalists. However, the number was changed to three from 32,000 after protests spread online stating that misinformation was being spread by the makers.

The Kerala Story movie revolves around Shalini Unnikrishnan (Adah Sharma), Nimah (Yogita Bihani), and Siddhi Idnani (Geetanjali), who share their room with Asifa (Sonia Balani) in a nursing college in Kasargod, Kerala. Asifa, who is an aide to ISIS, how indoctrinates and brainwashes the three girls and converts them to Islam and what happens to them is the main crux of the movie.

With the end of an interesting month of April for Telugu cinema, we are now in the month of May. The month started off with two releases on May 5th in the form of Allari Naresh’s Ugram and Gopichand’s Ramabanam.

While Ugram opened to mostly average talk and reviews, Ramabanam has opened with disastrous talk and this is clear with the box office collections. Now, let us take a look at the box office collections of both Ugram and Ramabanam.

Ugram opened with below-par numbers on its opening day. The film will need a big jump on the weekend for it to become a safe venture. This Saturday and Sunday will be a crucial time for the film.

The opening day collections for Ugram are in the range of 80 Lakhs, leaving very little dent at the box office. This is a low number considering that the theatrical business of Ugram is valued at 5 crores.

Whereas, Ramabanam is off to an even poorer start. The 1st day share collections of Ramabanam are expected to be below 1.5 crores. It is very well known to everyone that Vijay Anthony’s Bichagadu was a big success in Telugu. The film was released as a normal dubbing film, but it became a massive blockbuster. Now the sequel to the movie, Bichagadu 2 – Anti Bikkili is going to be released on May 19th. The unit of Bichagadu 2 had arranged a press meet recently and Renowned actor and director R Narayana Murthy was the chief guest for the event.

Hero Vijay Antony revealed that the second part is a different story, and it consists entirely different content, and it is not a continuation of the first part, and he also talked a lot about the movie. “I am confident that the second part of Bichagadu will be a blockbuster.
