Do theatre owners have the right to demand compensation from Puri Jagannadh for Liger losses?

Liger was one of the most anticipated Tollywood releases of 2022. The film’s pan-India scale and the combination of Vijay Deverakonda and Puri Jagannadh for the first time and the presence of Mike Tyson added massive buzz to the project. Unfortunately, the film ended up being one of the biggest disasters in the history of Tollywood. Now the film’s debacle has forced the buyers to seek compensation from Puri Jagannadh and co.

Liger issues have not been settled yet and theatre owners of Nizam are on strike against Puri Jagannadh for compensation. Distributor Warangal Srinu has stated that Puri is not responding to the calls so he can not compensate the theatre owners. This has led the theatre owners directly demand Puri for compensation. But, is the director legally obligated to compensate the buyers?

To get the context, Puri Connects- the film’s makers quoted huge amount for Liger rights and multiple distributors expressed interest to buy the movie by believing the combo. Finally, Warangal Srinu finalised the deal for close to Rs 65Cr NRA for South India. NRA means Non-Refundable Advance. So legally the producers do not need to pay any amount for losses. In addition to this, Warangal Srinu paid Rs 55Cr by stating that the market has decreased with Corona. After the release, the movie ended up as a massive failure. 

If we go by legal means, Puri Jagannadh is not obliged to pay any amount. As a matter of fact, Puri can ask Warangal Srinu for the originally committed amount. Even theatre owners don’t have any right to ask the director for money as there is no direct dealing between them. Warangal Srinu is responsible for them which is why it is surprising to see the current strike against Puri. It is possible that they have gone by Warangal Srinu’s words that he does not have money to compensate so they are hoping Puri to cover their losses. But theatre owners need to understand they do not have any right to demand money from Puri Jagannadh. They can only request for compensation and being the film’s producer, it’s upto him to compensate or not.

Sharwanand is all set to marry his fiance Rakshita Reddy in Jaipur, Rajasthan, at a lavish wedding on June 3. The wedding invitations have been handed out, and it is now known that it will be a sumptuous wedding held over a few days at the Leela Palace, Jaipur. Rakshita’s Mehendi function will be held on June 2 and the Pelli Koduku function will be held on June 3. It is very well known that Prabhas’ Adipurush was selected for Tribecca Film Festival, which had been scheduled between 7th – 18th June. It was also reported that there is a massive demand for Adipurush tickets for the premiers. Total three premier shows have been planned for this festival on 13th June, 15th June and 17th June. However, according to the reports, it is said makers have cancelled the premiers.

The makers of Adipurush have cancelled the 13th June premiere show as they thought the film would be released on 16th June, it is not an appropriate idea to have an early premiere because if the talk from show comes negative, then it may affect on the film’s collections and there is also a possibility of story and important scenes being leaked. The Other 2 shows will be screened as per the plan. Overall, we can say that the makers of Adipurush have taken the best decision by cancelling the early premier.

Because the teaser of Adipurush was heavily criticized by the critics and fans for the poor VFX work. But the trailer was successful in changing the impression of the audience with improved VFX. That is why Adipurush trailer got a whopping well over 100 million views on YouTube. This response has strengthened the confidence of the makers. So, they would want to continue this momentum rather than taking a risk by arranging an early premiere.

Adipurush is directed by Om Raut and produced on a massive scale by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Om Raut, Prasad Sutar and Rajesh Nair of Retrophiles. Prabhas will be seen as Lord Ram, while Kriti Sanon appears as Janaki. Sunny Singh was plays the role of Lakshman and Deva Dutta Nage plays Lord Hanuman. Bollywood Actor Saif Ali Khan will be seen as Raavan.

The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam in theaters. Adipurush was initially slated to be released on August 11 last year. However, the makers shifted its release to January 2023, but again it was postponed because of the backlash came for the VFX and after getting things back right, they are coming in June.

So, the Producer just received around 20 Crores advances for the theatricals, and the Agent has become a complete loss for the producer more than the buyers.

It became a miserable failure at the box office. Hero Akhil Akkineni wrote an open letter to thank his fans and well-wishers for their support and stated he will come back stronger.

Sakshi Vaidya played the female lead in the Agent movie, while Hip Hop Tamizha composed the tunes. Bollywood actor Dino Morea appeared as the antagonist. Urvasi Rautela sizzled in a special song. Trivikram is the one who has got a nice image by putting Extraordinary Telugu titles for his recent movies, as he has a very good command in Telugu Language. The film’s first look will be out on May 31st on the occasion of Superstar Krishna Garu’s birth anniversary.

We know that Trivikram is also working on Vinodhaya Sitham remake, in which Pawan Kalyan will appear in an extended cameo. Sai Dharam Tej is the main lead while Samuthirakani, who had directed the original Tamil version, will handle the remake as well. The film’s dialogues are being written by none other than Trivikram, it is also reported that he is making sure that the film will have changes compared to the original version to suit the taste of Telugu audiences.

NTR 30’s official title has been a part of discussions in Tollywood circles for quite some time. The makers are planning to release the first look and much-awaited title on May 19th right on time for NTR’s birthday which falls on May 20th. According to industry circles, ‘Devara’ has been finalised as the title. This has received unanimously positive response from NTR fans as well as industry insiders.

NTR 30 is now carrying great positive buzz and even though it got off to a shaky start with multiple delays, everything now seems to be working well for the unit with Koratala Siva ensuring the schedules are completed before or as planned. Warangal Srinu clarifies about the Liger financial issues

The ongoing buyer’s strike over Liger’s financial losses has again brought Nizam distributor Warangal Srinu and Puri Jagannadh to the forefront. Both have maintained a silence on the issue till now and Warangal Srinu has finally spoken out.

Srinu clarified that he bought the entire South India rights for 54Cr on an NRA basis and he sold the individual areas separately excluding Nizam which he released on his own and the movie as we all know brought a colossal loss. Srinu added that he was in constant touch with Puri even one week after the movie’s release. Things turned sour after the call recording leak which was done by some distributors frustrated with the loss. After the call recording leaks where distributors also decided to take legal action, Puri and Charmmee stopped being in touch with the trade circle.

Warangal Srinu also denied the rumours floating that it was he who instigated this strike against Puri. He explained that he is a big Puri Jagannadh fan and he himself is waiting for compensation from the director. The distributor questioned that in such a situation, how can he return the money to the exhibitors.

“I suffered losses because of Acharya’s failure as well but for Acharya I have got a refund even though it’s pretty small. But for Liger, the team is not responding to me at all. He also pointed out that the Liger team itself claimed the budget is 100Cr and they got 140Cr business with theatrical and non-theatricals. This means they are in very good profits but still, they are hesitant to compensate the amount.
