The reason I say this is that, when we usually think of stars, what comes to mind are generally, ‘commercial movies’. The likes of Superstar Rajinikanth, Megastar Chiranjeevi, and Powerstar Pawan Kalyan, there is some common connection between these stars.

But Kamal Haasan is nothing like that. Kamal Haasan’s star image comes from his unique films, outstanding writing and direction prowess, and impeccable creative knowledge. But this is a double-edged sword because the movies that Kamal is usually associated with are definitely critically acclaimed but the commercial acclaim has been lacking at times.

But, all of this changed with one film, and that is Vikram. Before Vikram, everyone thought that Kamal’s stamina was over and that he was done. But with Vikram, Kamal scored an industry hit, shunning everybody down.

As a result of Vikram’s success, Indian 2, which was under the shelf for a long time, was finally revived. The film has since advanced rapidly and Shankar has been very busy in the shooting process of the film. Indian 2 is currently doing record business as well.

Not only this, but he has also signed 3 more crazy projects. One with director H Vinoth, one with Mani Ratnam, and of course, he has Project K. Kamal Haasan is definitely on top of the game right now, and is enjoying the best phase of his career.

For a long time now, Bollywood has always been the industry with the most variety of audiences. From the North to the South, Hindi movies are watched across India. But the same perhaps cannot be said about all regional films coming from Tollywood, Kollywood, etc.

So as a result of this wide range of audiences, Bollywood films are getting very good offers for non-theatrical rights. And when you think about this, it makes perfect sense. In today’s time, data has become very accessible with the likes of Airtel and mainly the Jio boom. So, obviously, owing to the massive population of North audiences, Bollywood films are likely to perform well on OTT.

So, from these digital rights alone, most films are recovering more than 80% of their film ‘s budget. With just the digital, satellite, and music rights, the producers are recovering a huge chunk of their money.

As a result of this, many producers are not even concerned about the theatrical performance of the movie. Many are not even putting money and effort into the theatrical release. Just recently, Varun Dhawan and Jhanvi Kapoor’s Bawaal had a direct release on Amazon Prime. Now, this is not just a small film. Both the actors are relatively big stars, and the director, Nitesh Tiwari has given blockbusters like Dangal and Chicchore.

But the question is, in the long run, what is the impact of this? Is this a good sign or a bad sign? Well, the simple fact is, that Indian audiences love the theatre. If the film is good, they will prefer to watch it in the theatres rather than on OTT. Of course, this varies from person to person but, what I am saying is, if a film is good, it will definitely generate more money from the Box Office than from its revenue from the non theatrical rights.

Adipurush deal is still a profitable deal for Telugu buyers

Prabhas and Om Raut’s Adipurush which hit screens with massive hype and buzz, has completed its theatrical to run all over the Worldwide. Openings for the film were extraordinary, but due to the poor word of mouth and various controversies, the film failed to attract audiences to theaters after the weekend. While the worldwide Theatrical rights of the film of were valued at 190Crs, the film only collected a share of 108Crs at the end of its run.

Even before the release of Adipurush there was a question in many people in the trade, industry, and audiences that what was the reason for People Media Factory, the emerging production house’s involvement in Adipurush deal and buying the rights at 160 – 170 Crores.

Because the business of Adipurush had happened around 120 Crores only. So even the buyer knew beforehand that the business will happen for 120 Crores only but still, he made the deal. The main reason is they expected Adipurush to be a massive blockbuster and overflows will come for the film, and one more reason is the People Media Factory is also involved in Prabhas and Sandeep Vanga’s Spirit.

The film, Spirit was planned with UV creations at first, but later People Media Factory entered, along with Bhadrakali pictures and T Series. The Adipurush deal includes the involvement in the Spirit movie as well, so they are officially the producers of the film, which will definitely have a massive craze because of the actor and director combo.

So the idea was they can easily cover Adipurush’s losses with Spirit’s business and profits. If Adipurush had given the workflows People Media Factory would have got a jackpot with Spirit, but the film did not give any overflows. However, still the Telugu states deal gave them Spirit movie, so they can cover everything there and likely to end up with some profits as well.

Nithin’s film to clash with Nani and Venkatesh films

Tollywood hero Nithin has not had success for quite some time now. Bheeshma was his last hit for him. Then in 2021, his three films Check, Rang De and Maestro had failed to impress the audiences. Last year, he came up with the film Macherla Niyojakavargam. That too became a disaster at the box office. Now Nithin has teamed up with well-known writer and director Vakkantham Vamsi. Nithin’s new film will clash with Venkatesh and Nani’s film on this year’s Christmas weekend.

The first look poster of Nithin’s new film along with the title has been released by the makers. The film is titled as Extra – Ordinary Man. The poster, designed with a mass touch, features Nithin in two different shades. Along with the poster, the note added by the makers read, “Every ordinary man has an extraordinary story behind it” is very fascinating. This note seems to indicate the characterization of the hero. Overall, the makers have succeeded in increasing the curiosity among the audiences with the title and the first look.

Sudhakar Reddy and Nikita Reddy are jointly producing the film under Sreshth Movies and Aditya Movies and Entertainments banners. Young actress Sree Leela plays the female lead in the film, which has its music scored by Harris Jayaraj. The film is slated to release on December 23, which has now given the rise to an interesting clash at the box office.

Nani’s Hi Nanna and Venkatesh’s Saindhav film units have already announced that their films will be released for Christmas. Also, Sudheer Babu’s Harom Hara was also announced for Christmas release. Now Nithin’s Extra – Ordinary man has joined the race.
