Dhanush set for a directorial hat-trick

Kollywood Actor Dhanush made his directorial debut with Pa. Paandi in 2017. The film received good acclaim for his attempt and earned him fine praise for his direction as well. He came back again with his Raayan as a Director last year which emerged as a huge blockbuster also becoming his career-biggest grosser.

After Raayan, Dhanush didn’t back off and directed two more films i.e., NEEK (Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam) and Idly Kadai in which he is also playing the lead role. NEEK is slated for release this Friday and it is also carrying great buzz in Kollywood circles. Few people who have seen the film praised its attempt on their social media handles. So, it is clear that with NEEK, Dhanush is set for a directorial hat-trick success.

NEEK is also releasing in Telugu as Jabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama. The Trailer of this has also been released recently. The film stars Pavish, Anikha Surendran, Priya Prakash Varrier, Mathew Thomas, and others and is produced by Dhanush, Kasthuri Raja, Vijayalakshmi Kasthuri.

Jio Hotstar shuts down multiple channels

Recently, the merger of Jio Cinema and Disney+Hotstar happened with a new OTT platform, Jio Hotstar taking its birth. All the entertainment channels belonging to both Viacom 18 and Star India which run these OTTs came under Jio Hotstar. Now, it is learned the OTT platform has shut down 9 channels.

These 9 channels were Comedy Central, VH1, MTV Beats, Comedy Central HD, VH1 HD, MTV Beats HD, Bindass, Colors Odia and Star Kiran HD. All these channels have now been replaced with only Sports channels i.e., Star Sports 2 Telugu HD, Star Sports 2 Tamil HD, Star Sports First (Star Sports 2 Kannada), Sports18 1 (Star Sports 2 Hindi), Sports18 2 (Star Sports 2 Telugu), Sports 18 3(Star Sports 2 Tamil), Sports 18 Khel (Star Sports Khel), Sports 18 1 HD(Star Sports 2 Hindi HD).

This change drew mixed reactions on social media platforms. Few users have expressed their disappointment over this decision on the removal of music and entertainment channels that have existed all these years.

Pushpa 2’s Final Collection Officially Announced

Pushpa 2 collections have been a topic of discussion across industries for months now. The film achieved several milestones during its box-office run and now, the makers have finally announced the final box-office figures. As per the makers, the film grossed a whopping Rs 1871 crores worldwide.

But as per Track Tollywood, this Allu Arjun-Rashmika starrer has collected around 1665 Cr gross. The main difference in collections is because of Hindi numbers. There are different numbers in Hindi reported by different trade sources.

Keeping these variations aside, Pushpa 2 is indeed a sensational blockbuster on the level of Baahubali 2. The film has been streaming on Netflix for the past 2 weeks in all languages. And it has achieved a record viewership on Netflix.

The Telugu version also did well and collected more than 500 Cr gross and 300 Cr share and emerged as the non-SSR Industry Hit.

In Hindi, Pushpa 2 has collected more than 1000 Cr gross worldwide and created all-time records. The action entertainer directed by Sukumar did well in Tamil with around 75 Cr gross. Karnataka market also fetched good news for the makers with more than 80 Cr gross. The only region which was a huge disappointment for the producers was Kerala where the film faced big losses and collected less than 20 Cr gross.

Rajinikanth said No to Mari Selvaraj

Mari Selvaraj is one of the Tamil directors who did not see any failures yet. Currently he is working with Vikram’s son Dhruv Vikram on a project called Bison. There were also reports that this talented filmmaker will work with none other than superstar Rajinikanth, but the latest reports suggest that Rajinikanth said no to Mari Selvaraj.

The news from Tamil media is that Mari Selvaraj was planning to do a film with Rajinikanth for a long time, and recently he met the superstar and narrated a story, but Rajini is said to be not interested in doing a film with the director. So, it is almost certain that Rajinikanth said no to Mari Selvaraj.

The main reason for this might be that Mari Selvaraj projects always deal with social issues, mainly fighting for the lower caste people who revolt against the upper caste. Rajinikanth previously did similar kinds of movies Kabali and Kaala with Pa Ranjith. Kabali managed to get good numbers with pre-release hype, but Kaala failed to impress and did not put up even decent numbers at the box office.

The audiences expect more than a story from Rajinikanth. They want mass elevations, entertainment, and stylish episodes, which help the movie to do big numbers. Rajini’s recent release, Vettaiyan, also missed the above-mentioned elements, which resulted in an average result at the box office. So, maybe with all these reasons and issues, Rajinikanth is interested in working on commercial projects only.

Raviteja’s Mass Jathara Postponed Again

Raviteja’s Mass Jathara received a good response for its title and the first glimpse. While the fans of Mass Maharaja are waiting to see their favorite star on the big screen soon, the film is experiencing delays due to unexpected reasons. The latest reports suggest that Raviteja’s Mass Jathara has been postponed again.

Initially, the film was planned to be released for Sankranthi, but due to Ravi Teja’s injury on the sets, the film’s shooting faced a delay, and the same production house brought Dau Maharaaj to Sankranthi from Christmas and postponed Mass Jathara to summer.

Mass Jathara moved from Summer

As said above, Mass Jathara’s first glimpse or teaser was released on Ravi Teja’s birthday, and it received a good response. Everyone felt that the movie would be a perfect one for the summer period, but Raviteja’s Mass Jathara has been postponed again.

The film was expected to arrive in theaters this May, but now it is said to be postponed to the second half of 2025. Sithara’s Kingdom with Vijay Devarakonda was announced for a May end release.

AR Murugadoss about Madharasi Title

AR Murugadoss and Sivakarthikeyan have collaborated for the first time with their upcoming film, Madharasi. The film is the 23rd film of SK, and it was called SK23, and on the occasion of the actor’s birthday, the title was officially announced. AR Murugadoss talks about the Madharasi title.

The director stated that Madharasi’s story opens from the North Indian character POV; as the North Indians refer to South Indians with that term, they have kept this title. ARM said that this film will take Sivakarthikeyan to the next level as an action hero. Also, SK’s character will have a unique element like Ghajini. which they have not revealed yet.

It will be an out-and-out action story blended with a beautiful love story. The film’s shooting is almost over, and only 12 days of Climax portions are left to be filmed. Music Director Anirudh has completed everything except one background score.

AR Murugadoss talks about the Madharasi title, and he said that the movie will definitely satisfy fans and common audiences. Vidhyut Jamwal,who worked with ARM for Thuppaki was very much impressed with the script and immediately hugged the director and said that he will be doing the film.

Madharasi Title Teaser

Produced by Sri Lakshmi Movies, Madharasi will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi simultaneously, while the Hindi version has been titled ‘Dil Madharasi. Rukmini Vasanth plays the female lead opposite Sivakarthikeyan, while Anirudh is composing the music.

Telugu Buyers Compensated for Kanguva’s Losses

Suriya’s Kanguva was released amidst extremely high expectations in Tamil as well as Telugu . The Kollywood star has a very good following in Telugu states and since the movie was a period action film made on heavy budget, it was bought for huge amount by the Telugu distributors. Unfortunately, the film’s content was not that strong and it ended up as high loss venture for everyone involved.

This week’s release Dragon which stars Love Today hero Pradeep Ranganathan’s is being seen as compensation for Telugu buyers as same set of distributors involved here. If Dragon works well, then it will cover Kanguva’s losses for Telugu buyers. The makers of Dragon have done good promotions in Telug and a pre-release event with the team also took place on Sunday.

The film also stars Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar. Factors such as Pradeep’s earlier hit film Love Today and presence of Anupama Parameswaran are expected to draw crowds and if the film manages to get off to a good talk, then the distributors are in for a good time.

He went for class and action based films with Nannaku Premtaho and marked a huge change with Rangasthalam-a mass movie with a rural backrop.

With Pushpa, he went more massy with Pushparaj being the massiest character of all his lead stars. His next film will star Ram Charan and as per reports, it will be in complete contrast to Rangasthalam and Pushpa franchise. This will be a good change for both actor and director. Ram Charan is currently working on a film with rural backdrop with Buchi Babu so Sukumar’s movie will be a fresh change. Buchi Babu – Ram Charan’s film is likely to complete shoot by this year end and immediately Sukumar film will go on sets.
