Kantara Chapter 1 Hindi Version Bombs in North America

0

Nowadays, sequels or franchise films are turning out to be major successes at the box office, especially in Bollywood. With the same belief, the Kantara prequel was expected to become a huge hit in the Hindi version.  However, Kantara Chapter 1’s Hindi version bombs in North America.

The Pan-Indian movie from Kannada, KGF 2, had collected around $7.4 million in North America a few years back, even in the Covid era. Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1’s America business is valued above KGF 2’s closing numbers, but the box office numbers did not match the expectations.

Kantara Chapter 1 fails to beat KGF Chapter 1 because of poor performance in Hindi

The spiritual action drama collected around 4.1 million in 11 days. If we look at language-wise collections, Kantara Chapter 1 did very well in Kannada, even much better than KGF Chapter 2, as the former collected around $1.4M for 11 days, whereas the latter’s Kannada version’s closing is around $800K.

KGF 2’s Telugu version ended at $2.6M, while the prequel of Kantara did around 2M in 11 days. So for the South versions, Rishab Shetty’s film was on par with Yash-Prashanth Neel’s film.

The main difference is the Hindi version, where KGF 2 collected 3.8M, but Kantara Chapter 1 collected around 500K in Hindi in North America for 11 days. Even reaching 1 million in closing looks not possible for the film.

This huge difference made the film a loss venture for business, and no one expected such a disastrous performance from the Hindi version.

The Real Reason Behind The Raja Saab’s Continuous Postponements

0

Prabhas and Maruthi’s upcoming film, The Raja Saab, is being produced by TG Vishwa Prasad under People Media Factory. The producer recently revealed the real reason behind the repeated postponements of the film’s release.

Originally planned for a Summer 2025 release, the horror-comedy was later shifted to December and is now finally set to hit screens on January 9, 2026. According to the producer, VFX delays were the main cause of the postponement.

The Raja Saab Producer talks about the reasons for the postponements

“The first VFX supervisor didn’t complete any work until October 2024. He kept taking his monthly payment and even threatened the director with quitting if things didn’t go his way. We were initially aiming for an April release, but because of this issue, we had to postpone. Later, we replaced the VFX supervisor,” said Vishwa Prasad. He also assured fans that the final output would be top-notch:

“We can guarantee that there will be no issues with the VFX in The Raja Saab, except for a few cinematic liberties meant to enhance the viewing experience.”

The producer further clarified that The Raja Saab is a franchise film, but not a continuation of an existing story. While the characterizations may carry forward, the story will be complete in this part itself, with no tease for a sequel.

However, he confirmed that the next film will once again feature the same team of Prabhas and Maruthi, and discussions are already underway.

“We know that January 9th is not typically considered a strong date during the Sankranthi season. But we have complete confidence in our content. It’s the perfect festive season for audiences to enjoy The Raja Saab, and Prabhas fans will definitely love watching his film during this time.”

Many fans were surprised to learn that VFX issues were the real reason behind the film’s repeated postponements.

Tollywood Faces Downtrend in 2025

0

The Tollywood films, which used to work at a huge level at the pan-India box office, face a downward trend in 2025, and Tollywood stands in last position in the list of highest grossers this year.

If we look at all industries in 2025, Bollywood’s highest is Chhaava with over 800 Cr gross, Sandalwood’s Kantara Chapter 1 crosses 600 Cr, and it is even going for the biggest grosser in its full run.

Kollywood’s Coolie grossed 520 Cr, and Mollywood’s biggest grosser is Lokah, with 300 Cr+ gross collections.

Tollywood stands at the last place, with its biggest grosser, OG, with closer to 290 Cr (crossed Sankranthiki Vasthunam). In recent years, Telugu films dominated, but this year they did not make a big impact at the pan-India level.

Kantara Chapter 1 Crosses 600 Cr in 11 Days

Kantara’s chapter 1 had an excellent second weekend at the box office, as it crossed 600 Cr in 11 days. The film saw a particularly strong performance on Saturday and Sunday, when it experienced a significant jump in gross collections worldwide, surpassing 50 Cr on both days.

The film showed a superb consistency at the box office, and Kantara Chapter 1 has collected around 610 Cr gross for 11 days.

Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office: Needs another 200 Cr Gross to beat Chhaava

The film needs to collect another 200 Cr gross from here to become 2025’s biggest grosser. As the 3rd weekend has the advantage of Diwali, and looking at the 2nd weekend collections, this now looks possible.

If only the pre-release had been stronger, the spiritual drama acted and directed by Rishab Shetty could have had much bigger numbers on the opening weekend.

Salman Khan Fires Back at Murugadoss

0

Salman Khan has finally spoken out about what went wrong with Sikandar, taking a firm stance against director A.R. Murugadoss, who was holding the actor responsible for the film’s failure.

The superstar explained that he used to reach the sets around 9 PM, which might have caused some inconvenience during the shoot, but he clarified that he was dealing with a rib injury at the time. Initially, Sikandar was a project led by A.R. Murugadoss and producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

However, Sajid later backed out, and Murugadoss also moved on from Sikandar to work on a South Indian film, according to Salman Khan.

Salman further pointed out that the director’s recent release, Madharaasi, was another large-scale project. He remarked that the actor in that film used to arrive on set as early as 6 AM, adding with sarcasm that it turned out to be an even “bigger blockbuster” than Sikandar, which is clearly a satirical jab referring to its failure.

Fans appreciated Salman’s straightforward response and felt that his comments gave Murugadoss a much-needed reality check.

Lokah 45 Days Gross Collections

Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah: Chapter 1 has turned out to be a sensational blockbuster for Mollywood, which created many records at the box office, and it also had a fantastic long run. The film Lokah’s gross collections for 45 days are out now.

For 45 days, the film has gathered 120.30 Cr in Kerala, while it minted 60.10 Cr gross in the rest of India, with overseas getting a massive 119.62 Cr [$13.48].

So, the sensational blockbuster Lokah’s Worldwide Gross is 300.02 Cr for 45 days, and the film is likely to end its theatrical run with close to 305 Cr gross, and it is the first ever 300 Cr grosser for Mollywood.

This female superhero movie, directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan, showcases strong performances from Naslen, Mammootty, Sandy Master, Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, and several others. The film’s music was composed by Jakes Bejoy.

Kantara Chapter 1 Collects 100 Cr in 2nd Weekend Across India

0

Kantara chapter 1 had a super strong 2nd weekend at the box office as the film performed beyond everyone’s expectations. On the 2nd weekend, the spiritual action drama has collected more than 100 Cr in India, which is a terrific achievement.

The 2nd weekend strong performance of Kantara Chapter 1 also indicates that the movie will have a very good run at the box office, and the 3rd weekend will have the advantage of the Diwali festival as well.

Overall, worldwide, the film has collected around 600 Cr gross in 11 days. The good thing is that the film’s numbers are still strong in all languages. Now the trade expectations also go to 750 Cr+, and the Kantara prequel also has a chance of becoming 2025’s biggest grosser by targeting Chhaava.

Every Industry Scores 10M Overseas, Except Tollywood

0

The year 2025 has been great for Indian cinema at the overseas box office, with several films becoming massive hits. All major film industries crossed the $10 million mark overseas, except for the Telugu film industry-Tollywood.

The Malayalam film industry continued its strong performance from last year, while the Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada industries also delivered successful films.

Here are the films that earned more than $10 million overseas this year:

  • Chhaava
  • Empuraan
  • Thudarum
  • Saiyaraa
  • Coolie
  • Lokah: Chapter 1
  • Kantara: Chapter 1

As mentioned, Tollywood is the only major industry that didn’t reach the $10 million milestone. The main reason is the lack of a strong pan-India film from Telugu cinema this year.

Pawan Kalyan’s OG was expected to be a big hit overseas, but it didn’t maintain momentum after release. No other Telugu film this year had the potential to reach that level either.

Meanwhile, the Malayalam industry made a huge impact, with Empuraan, Thudarum, and Lokah: Chapter 1 all crossing $10 million overseas. These three films helped Mollywood outperform even the larger film industries in 2025.
