Dragon takes early lead over NEEK

On this Friday, i.e., 21st February, two crazy medium-budget films from Kollywood are getting released in theaters. One is Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon, and the other one is Dhanush’s directorial NEEK. Looking at the box office trend until now, Dragon takes an early lead over NEEK.

Initially, NEEK was planned for 7th February release and Dragon was planned for 14th February release. However, due to Vidaamuyarchi’s postponement, both the films were forced to take the clash on this Friday.

The advance bookings have been opened for both films, and DDragon takes an early lead over NEEK in initial advances. Pradeep Ranganathan’s romantic comedy is off to a super start in the ticket bookings, and it is set for a huge opening at the box office. Dhanush’s NEEK also starts off with decent advances. Definitely, both films have more chances to work big at the box office with positive WOM.

Both films are also releasing in Telugu; the trade expects the films to work in Telugu as well. As of now, Dragon is leading ahead of NEEK in bookings, but later, the word of mouth decides the winner. NEEK’s music became a success, especially the Golden Sparrow song, which was a huge hit. Dragon is titled Return of the Dragon in Telugu, and it stars Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar as the female leads.

Ram Charan is eagerly waiting for a big comeback. With RRR, he gained pan-India appeal, but his next films, like Acharya and the recent release Game Changer, failed to impress audiences and pushed the actor into a tough period. However, Ram Charan’s next film, RC 16, is a blockbuster hit, says Director Buchi Babu. 

After Game Changer’s result, Charan came out very early; he recently joined the Buchi Babu film’s sets in Hyderabad and finished a schedule. Buchi’s film has completed 3 schedules till now, and the 4th schedule is set to start in early March. The team plans a continuous schedule to finish the film this year itself, and there is a plan to release the film at the end of this year if everything goes well.

Yesterday, at the Baapu movie’s pre-release event, Buchi expressed that Ram Charan’s next film, RC 16, is a blockbuster hit. Even in audiences, there are huge expectations on this film, as his next two films are very promising.

Charan’s current film with Buchi Babu is carrying in the industry. It is being said that the story came out very well. Buchi has spent a very long time on this film’s script, and he seems to be very happy with the shooting output, which gave him the confidence of a sure-shot hit.

Meanwhile, Ram Charan’s 17th film will be directed by sensational director Sukumar, who scored a massive success with Pushpa 2: The Rule. The film is said to be an action thriller.

Chhaava – Pushpa 2: Double Win with One Move

Chhaava is shaking the North Indian box office. The film was released on Valentine’s Day and received a superb response from audiences and reviewers. Vicky Kaushal’s historical film was the first one to be announced for a December 1st week release, but due to multiple postponements, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 was forced to arrive on the same date, i.e., 5th December. If we look at the box office statistics, Chaava – Pushpa 2 achieved a double win with one move.

As said above, Maddock Films was the first one to announce the December first week’s date and they were hesitant to postpone the film. But later they postponed, and Pushpa 2 had a solo release, and now Chhaava is also having a solo release.

Chhaava’s Postponement works for Pushpa 2

Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 did record collections in Hindi. In India, the film’s Hindi version has collected 740 Cr net and is an all-time record-breaking number for any Hindi film. Now, Chhaava is also gathering massive collections at the ticket windows. The historical action drama collected 155 Cr net for 5 days and is heading towards a 400 Cr net full run.

Chaava—Pushpa 2 achieved a double win with one move. Both films enjoyed their best run by getting a huge number of screens, and no audiences were split. If they were released in competition, then certainly both movies could have seen an impact. Pushpa 2: The Rule might not have created an all-time record, and Chhaava also wouldn’t have seen this level of record collections, as most audiences cannot bear to watch two big films at the same time due to high ticket prices.

Maharashtra: The Biggest factor in Box Office Performance of Pushpa 2 and Chhaava

Also, the collections would not have been the same for both films in Maharashtra. Pushpa 2 did a huge record number in the Maratha land, and now Chhaava is chasing the Pushparaj’s total in the same area. Maharashtra could have seen a massive impact if both films were released in competition.The postponement decision worked very well for both films.

Today Chhaava is expected to have its biggest day at the box office, as today marks Shivaji Maharaj’s Jayanthi. The advance bookings for the film in Maharashtra are phenomenal today.

Chhaava’s Telugu Release in Plans?

Chhaava is expected to have a big long run as it started gaining momentum continuously in other states too apart from Maharashtra. Also, there is heavy demand for the film to be released in South Indian versions, especially in Telugu. We need to wait and see whether makers can see the demand and release the dubbed versions in theaters or they directly add South Indian languages on OTT.

The digital rights of Chhaava are said to be bought by Netflix, but it will take more than 2 months to release the film on the OTT platform.

Kudumbasthan Movie OTT release date

Manikandan has emerged as one of the most promising actors in Tamil Nadu thanks to the huge success of Good Night and Lover. He has made a mark in Telugu as well with the film’s OTT success. Good Night streamed on Hotstar and brought great recognition to him. Kudumbasthan, his recent theatrical release has also emerged as a success and has further boosted the young actor’s market.

Kudumbasthan received unanimous positive reviews and Manikandan’s performance also garnered great applause., The film is a feel-good family entertainer and could have done great in Telugu states.

The movie’s digital rights were bought by Zee 5 long before the theatrical release. Kudumbasthan is expected to stream on Zee 5 from next week in all south Indian languages. Even Telugu audience are eagerly waiting for this film’s OTT release.

Legal blow to PVR INOX

There have been multiple complaints against the leading Multiplex Chain, PVR INOX about the delay in beginning the show of a film at the scheduled time. The management displays many Advertisements leading to the frustration of the Audience who are seated. Many netizens have also addressed this issue on social media platforms tagging the Multiplex handle but they haven’t cared.

But the Multiplex chain has now received a major shock from a Court which ordered it to pay a fine of ₹1 Lakh to a Man who filed a lawsuit against it for the same issue. The Man from Bengaluru claimed that 25 minutes of Advertisements were displayed before the start of the show wasting his time. He also argued that Audience expects the film to start at the time that is mentioned and also added that they are forced to sit through these lengthy commercials.

Taking his complaint seriously, the court ruled the case in favour of him imposing a fine of ₹1 Lakh on PVR INOX. The court, additionally, also ordered the Multiplex chain to clearly mention the Actual start of the film on tickets ensuring that the viewers are not misled about when the film will actually begin. Netizens are hailing the judgement of the court and feel that this would ensure the time does not get wasted on unnecessary advertisements.

Tollywood Actor Naga Chaitanya struck gold with his Thandel. The Actor who needed a big hit after continuous failures has delivered a memorable blockbuster with the film. Thandel has collected 85 crores till now and also became one of the highest grossers for a Tier 2 Actor. Thanel’s OTT streaming date has also been locked now by the makers.

The Digital rights of the film were bagged by Netflix for a record price, and around 1/3rd of the budget was said to be covered by this sale. Thandel will be streamed on Netflix from the 6th of March. The team is also expecting to attract other language viewers from this as the film didn’t perform well in the other language markets. Chandoo Mondeti whose previous film, Karthikeya 2 became a big hit in Hindi didn’t pull the Audience to the theatres.

On the other hand, Thandel is based on real life, an incident involving fishermen who were mistakenly caught at Pakistani borders and an arrest followed later to their distress and how they fought against them to return to India. Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi delivered one of their finest performances backed by heart-wringing Music composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Produced by Geetha Arts, the film is produced by Bunny Vas and presented by Allu Aravind.

Chhaava, the latest historical film from Bollywood is creating a massive impact at the box office and audiences are raving about it. However, if we look at our Telugu directors’ historical biopics, like Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Gautami Putra Satakarni, they turned out to be failures.

Audiences show much interest in watching historical biopics, as there are many legends in Indian history. People want to know their story. Now the latest release Chhaava is moving the audience emotionally, and the people are crying in the theatres by seeing the film and it happened for more films in the past.

But somehow, Telugu directors failed to achieve this with their recent films. In recent years we have seen Gauthami Putra Satakarni, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Rudramadevi, and many more, but no movie has moved the audiences or made any strong impact.

Even Rajamouli’s RRR worked as a commercial film, but no one really connected to the legendary persons Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetaramaraju, as the movie was made with a different and fictional storyline. Putting aside the box office results, our Telugu directors’ historical biopics, like Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Gautami Putra Satakarni failed to create the required effect among audiences.

We need to wait and see who can make a successful and impactful historical film from the Telugu Film Industry. With the help of the Pan-India market, if a perfect film comes from Tollywood with a real-historical backdrop, then it makes a strong impact across languages.
