Baapu Movie Review: A Sincere but Sluggish Family Drama

0

Movie Name: Bapu
Rating: 2.5/5
Cast: Brahmaji, Amani, Sudhakar Reddy, Dhanya Balakrishna, Srinivas Avarsala, Raccha Ravi and others.
Director: K. Dayakar Reddy
Produced By: Raju ch. Bhanu Prasad Reddy
Release Date: 21st February 2025

Bapu is the latest rural family drama starring Brahmaji, Balagam Sudhakar Reddy, and Aamani in the lead roles. Made against the Telangana Backdrop, the film hit the theaters today.

Story:

Set in a Telangana village, Baapu’s narrative follows Chanti (Racha Ravi), a JCB operator convinced of hidden treasures, who dreams of securing his future by acquiring two JCBs using the gold idol he unearthed. In an unexpected turn of events, someone steals the goddess idol from him. In contrast, Mallayya (Brahmaji) struggles financially as a cotton farmer, living in debt alongside his father Rajayya (Sudhakar Reddy), wife Saroja (Aamani), and their kids. As the narrative progresses, we discover the fate of the missing gold idol and the surprising scheme that Mallayya’s family devises to gain money.

Performances:

Brahmaji delivers an impressive performance in Baapu, showcasing a stark difference from his recent roles. He effectively conveyed the essential nature of the character. Aamani shows her expertise in performance. Dhanya Balakrishna, and Mani Aegurla deliver fine performances. Another key attraction of Baapu is Sudhakar Reddy, famous for his character in Balagam. He captivates audiences with his funny comedic timing. Srinivas Avasarala suits his character nicely, although the part is limited. Racha Ravi put on a commendable show.

Analysis:

Baapu’s narrative takes place in rural Telangana, featuring an intriguing mix of suspense and heartfelt emotions. The narrative begins with a gripping concept and progresses seamlessly with a satisfactory execution. With an imaginative idea and a moving conclusion, the director showcases his honesty. The key message of Baapu emphasizes that we cannot attain what isn’t meant for us or what we don’t merit. Dayakar Reddy, the director, tried to infuse it with well-executed suspenseful moments and humor and emotional depth, which worked at several places.

While the emotional scenes in the second half succeed, the first half falls short of expectations. The central storyline involving the family planning a shocking murder attempt needed a perfect justification or explanation. The sluggish and predictable moments, which often seem contrived, lessen the overall experience. The romantic plot containing Mani Aegurla lacks authenticity.

Positives:

  • Performances
  • Emotional Scenes
  • Climax

Negatives:

  • Sluggish Narration
  • Predictable Traits
  • Few Mishandled Characters

Bapu Movie Review and Verdict:

Baapu presents a sincere idea, yet the portrayal of a rural farming family struggling to survive feels lackluster despite incorporating some thrilling aspects. The film benefits from authentic performances and various key emotional scenes. However, it suffers from tedious moments and superfluous parts.

Jio Hotstar Disappointing Viewers

0

The merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar has resulted in the launch of Jio Hotstar, bringing together content from both platforms. While the update was expected to enhance the user experience, it has faced criticism from viewers due to several technical and content-related issues.

One of the major concerns raised by users is the frequent ads during live cricket streaming. Many netizens have complained that advertisements appear at very short intervals, disrupting the viewing experience. This has led to frustration among cricket fans who expect seamless streaming.

Another significant issue is the app’s performance. Several users have reported frequent hanging and lagging while streaming content. Many have had to repeatedly reopen the app to continue watching, leading to dissatisfaction.

Additionally, the shutdown of multiple channels after the merger has disappointed viewers. Some users feel that the new platform lacks the variety previously available on Disney+ Hotstar.

With these growing concerns, Jio Hotstar must address these issues to retain and attract more viewers. Optimizing the platform for smooth streaming, reducing ad interruptions, and ensuring content diversity will be key factors in improving the user experience.

Pradeep Ranganathan outshines Dhanush

0

Kollywood Actor Pradeep Ranganathan made a big mark in Kollywood with his Love Today. This film became a sensational blockbuster and his second film Dragon released today with a unanimous positive reception and reviews from the audience. Dragon is also off to a sensational opening at the box office. With these two films, Pradeep Ranganathan has established a good market and brand rapidly.

Another Kollywood Actor Dhanush’s Production, NEEK also released today as a clash with Dragon. The film has also been received with decent word of mouth and okayish openings. But from Advance booking stage, Dragon took a big lead over NEEK and today it increased its dominance with better word of mouth and interest among the audience. There is no competition to Dragon from NEEK in this aspect.

Now, NEEK will witness an impact, but the positive sign is that NEEK has also opened with decent word of mouth and the star image of Dhanush as a Producer is helping the film. But the impact of Dragon cannot be overlooked. We need to see how NEEK sustains the power of Dragon at the box office. Dragon is already on the way to becoming a sensational blockbuster.

Even in Telugu States, Dragon opened well in the Noon shows, and it also looks to be the Number 1 choice for the Audience this weekend. It will also establish good numbers in the Telugu dubbed version. Pradeep Ranganathan being a Director is helping him pick the right scripts which in turn are proving beneficial for him.

More Setbacks for Shankar

0

Shankar, who was once the most sought-after blockbuster director on a pan-India level is now witnessing the lowest point of his career. Known for his blockbuster streak and having never seen a box-office flop, the ace director’s career is in a major slump with no blockbuster since Robo (2010).

After Robo, he chose to do a remake for the first time with Nanban (3 Idiots) which wasn’t a massive hit as expected. Next, he directed ‘I’ which was massively hyped before it was released. Starring Vikram and Amy Jackson, this film also failed to receive the box office success everyone hoped for.

Back-to-Back Disasters Raise Questions

Robo’s sequel ‘2 Point 0’ also couldn’t give him a proper success. With Indian 2, he saw his career’s lowest point as the Kamal Haasan starrer was a massive disaster. It was the first of such sorts for the maverick director. Game Changer, which was released last month added to Shankar’s woes and was another massive failure for the director.

With the future of Indian 3 looking bleak, it needs to be seen if Shankar would even go ahead with the film or not. Due to his box-office run in the last decade and his image as a big-budget director, finding a producer has become quite tough. He announced that Velpari would be his upcoming project. But finding someone to bankroll this film has become quite challenging.

ED Troubles for Shankar

Amidst these professional struggles, Shankar has faced another major shock. ED, earlier today attached assets worth Rs 10.11 crores under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The action was taken following a complaint by Tamil writer Aarur Tamilandan who claimed portions of the ‘Robo’ story belonged to him.

“Based on substantial evidence and records in hand, it has been determined that S Shankar has violated Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957—a violation now classified as a scheduled offense under the PMLA, 2002,” the ED said in a statement. The attachment of properties under PMLA provisions indicates that the agency suspects the proceeds of the alleged copyright infringement may have been laundered or integrated into Shankar’s assets.

Allu Aravind’s next target Nagarjuna

0

The Production House of Allu Aravind, Geetha Arts comes as very lucky for the Akkineni Family. Naga Chaitanya has recently witnessed big success with Thandel produced by Geetha Arts. The film also became his solo highest-grosser at his career’s lowest phase. The Banner also managed to give the first commercial success to Akhil with Most Eligible Bachelor.

Now, it is learned that the Banner is trying to make a film with Nagarjuna. This was also expressed in the success meet of Thandel and the discussions are reportedly on regarding this. Nagarjuna after his Naa Saami Ranga hasn’t committed to any solo film apart from Kubera which co-stars Dhanush and Coolie co-starring Rajinikanth.

So, there is a high chance that Chandoo Mondeti, the Director of Thandel, direct Nagarjuna again in the same Production House. The Director is also a big fan of Nagajuna which will also make it an interesting combination. All these are still in the discussion stage, but a film with Nagarjuna will surely happen.

Jaabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama Movie Review: An Entertaining and Lighthearted Take with Some Flaws

0

Movie Name: Jaabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama
Rating: 2.75/5
Cast: Pavish Narayan, Anikha Surendran, Priya Prakash Varrier, R Sarathkumar and others
Director: Dhanush
Produced By: Dhanush, Kasthuri Raja, Vijayalakshmi Kasthuri
Release Date: 21st February 2025

Jaabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama is the latest romantic comedy. The film is originally made in Tamil, titled as NEEK (Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam) and it is directed by Dhanush, Anikha Surendran and other young actors in the lead roles. Let’s check out how the film has been shaped up.

Story:

NEEK’s story is about Prabhu (Pavish Narayan) and Preethi (Priya Prakash Varrier), who are childhood friends and meet for a marriage alliance. They have a good time together, and all seems okay until Prabhu finds out that Nila (Anikha Surendhan), his previous girlfriend, is about to get married. Prabhu tells about his past love life to Preethi, and the rest of the story follows how these young people navigate their lives.

Performances:

Pavish looks like Dhanush with his clean-shaven appearance, giving off a boy-next-door vibe. He performs impressively. Anikha Surendran plays Nila decently, while Venkatesh Menon and Rabiya Khatoon are okay in their roles as Ravi and Shriya. Ramya Ranganathan is impressive in her character as Anjali. But it is Matthew Thomas, who gets the routine friend role, provides many laughs. Priya Prakash Varrier and R Sarathkumar are fine.

Analysis:

In NEEK, directed by Dhanush, the characters and screenplay emphasize practical aspects over emotional ones. The serious scenes in the film just come as small flashes, and do not stress the effect. The film tries to tickle all the boxes that connect to Gen Z themes. Youngsters meeting at the parties and taking the life-changing decisions in quick time is shown perfectly.

The entertaining parts in both the first and second halves work effectively. However, there are still elements of dullness and predictability in the proceedings. The climax also looks somewhat weird.

Positives:

  • Performances
  • Entertainment
  • Music

Negatives:

  • Dull Moments at a Few Places
  • Predictable Scenes/Twists
  • Climax

Jaabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama Movie Review and Verdict:

While Dhanush’s NEEK (Jaabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama) includes some weak and predictable moments, it ultimately serves as an entertaining and lighthearted film that can be enjoyed by audiences who prioritize enjoyment over seriousness.
