Dragon set for 100 crore club

0

Dragon starring Pradeep Ranganathan released this Friday with decent advance bookings. The film also received unanimous positive word of mouth after the start of the initial shows witnessing a massive jump in bookings. The collections have also gone up from show to show. The film is also performing well in Telugu having a very good opening day.

In Tamil Nadu, Dragon opened with more than 5.5 crore gross and opened at around 13 crore gross worldwide. The film also saw a big jump and is trending better than the opening day in all the areas today. Dragon is also expected to join the 100 crore club with this trend.

Pradeep Ranganathan had a great start as the Lead Actor with his debut film, Love Today, which nearly went close to 100 crores. The film collected around 90 crores gross in the full run, and Dragon looks to beat this record by officially joining the 100 crore club. Joining the 100 crore club with a 2nd film itself will be a great achievement for Pradeep who has also established himself as a promising Actor in Kollywood.

On the other hand, Dragon has also overshadowed other release NEEK, produced and Directed by Dhanush. NEEK opened to decent word of mouth and reviews, but the dominance of Dragon is felt everywhere and netizens also are going crazy about Dragon. How NEEK fares and sustains the clash with Dragon needs to be seen. The popularity and stardom of Dhanush for NEEK are not helping as expected for the film.

0

Even after 40 years since his directorial debut, Maniratnam is still continuing as one of the top directors of South Indian cinema. The producers and stars are still in the race to do a film with him. Currently, the legendary director is working for Thug Life with Kamal Haasan, and the latest news is that Mani Ratnam will direct Naveen Polishetty.

Mani Rathnam’s Brand: Old is Gold

The main reason for the craze around him is Mani is still able to connect with the audiences and deliver blockbusters. Mainly he completes the film with planned schedules, and the budget will not go overboard.

His next film, Thug Life, with Kamal Haasan, is scheduled for a 5th June release. The shooting was completed long ago, and the post-production works are happening now. At the same time, Maniratnam plans to do a romantic film with youngsters. For this film, the pre-production works have already started, and casting calls are happening.

Normally this film was expected to introduce a new youngster as the lead, but now an exciting buzz has started that Telugu actor Naveen Polishetty might act as the lead hero in this film. The Telugu audiences are thrilled as they got to know Mani Ratnam will direct Naveen Polishetty.

A Big Break for Naveen Polishetty to expand his market with Mani Rathnam’s movie

If this happens, then it will definitely be a great collaboration of works in both Tamil and Telugu. In Telugu, Naveen Polishetty is a promising youngster who has a very good brand and following. The Jathi Rathnal actor took a big break from shooting because of injuries.

He scored hat trick blockbusters with Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, Jathi Ratnalu, and Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty. His next film, Anaganaga Oka Raju’s glimpse, was recently released, and Meenakshi Chaudhary is playing the lead actress.

If everything goes well, the film with Maniratnam will certainly be a game-changing film for Naveen Polishetty, and it also helps for him to expand his market across languages.

Dhanush’s NEEK: Appreciated, But a Box Office Dud

0

After Pa Paandi and Raayan, Dhanush’s 3rd directional film NEEK (Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam) was released yesterday. In Telugu, the film was titled Jabillama Neeku Antha Kopama along with Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon (Return of the Dragon in Telugu). Despite getting positive reviews from audiences and reviewers in Telugu and Tamil, the film is struggling to put up good numbers.  Dhanush’s NEEK is appreciated, but it is heading towards a box office dud.

Dhanush’s NEEK: Good Reviews but Dull Collections

As said above, the film opened with decent Word of Mouth and reviews in Tamil, and Telugu. Dhanush gets good appreciation for his direction, and everyone expected it to be a hat trick success for Dhanush.

However, the film took a very slow start in both Telugu and Tamil and did not even show any growth for evening and night shows as well. Even for the weekend, there is also no improvement in advance bookings for the film.

Pradeep Ranganathan wins over Dhanush

The main reason is the film got released in competition with another film, Dragon, in both Telugu and Tamil. Both audiences picked Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon as their first preference, as it opened with better talk and a craze in audiences. Dragon starts with a huge start and impacts NEEK.

Dhanush’s NEEK is appreciated, but it is heading towards a box office dud, and if the film fails to take a jump today or tomorrow, then it will end up as a box office failure even with these decent reviews.

Vidaamuyarchi Kills NEEK:

NEEK was first planned as a solo release on 7th February. But due to Vidaamuyarchi coming on the same date, the youthful entertainer was forced to clash with Dragon at the box office, which showed a massive impact on its collections. A better release date could have guaranteed a box office success for NEEK.

Because of the anticipation around Daaku’s OTT release, many Telugu people did not see the film in theaters due to Sankranthiki Vasthunam’s preference. At the same time, they eagerly awaited the OTT release of Bobby and Balayya’s action drama. Also, the movie’s clips from the pirated version went viral on the internet. The film streaming in other languages also helped it to grab first place immediately on Netflix.

Netflix expects Daaku Maharaaj to register a massive viewership, and the film is currently receiving very good reviews from OTT viewers. Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj Storms to No. 1 Position on Netflix.

There have been rumors before the OTT release that Netflix will remove all Urvashi Rautela’s scenes, and to add to the fuel, the OTT giant removed the actress from a promotional poster, which made the rumors become strong. But no scenes of Urvashi have been removed from Netflix, and it is streaming the same theatrical version.

The movie has definitely underperformed at the box office, and it did not get the deserved appreciation and numbers. Now, on OTT, it is getting the expected appreciation from all languages’ viewers.

Ramam Raghavam Movie Review: An Inconsistent Emotional Drama

0

Movie Name: Ramam Raghavam
Rating: 2.25/5
Cast: Samuthirakani, Dhanraj, Pramodini, Satya, Sunil, Harish Utthamanand others
Director: Dhanraj Koranani
Produced By: Prudhvi Polavarapu
Release Date: 21st February 2025

Ramam Raghavam is the debut of comedian Dhanraj as a director. Made as an emotional drama between a father and son, the film stars Samuthirakani in one of the lead roles. The movie has been released in theaters today. Let’s check out how the directorial debut of Dhanraj has turned out.

Story:

Dasaradh Ram (Samuthirakani), a government employee, ensures that his son, Raghava (Dhanraj), receives the best possible upbringing. Following the end of his studies, Raghava selects a poor route, continually generating difficulties for both himself and his family. As he creates more problems, his father’s frustration grows, ultimately resulting in Raghava being kicked out of the house. In an unexpected development, Raghava’s fury leads him to make a shocking choice about his future. What circumstances influenced this drastic action? Did he complete the task? From there, the narrative develops further.

Performances:

Samuthirakani excels in his role, adding emotional depth to the film. His representation of a devoted yet vulnerable father is impressive. Not only does Dhanraj direct effectively, but he also performs well. Nevertheless, one might think that a more veteran lead actor could have taken the film and character to greater heights. As the mother, Pramodini shines in her role, while Satya brings in some comedic relief. Harish Utthaman is fine, while Sunil’s character is insignificant.

Analysis:

Dhanraj Koranani, who transitioned from comedy to directing, has written and directed Ramam Raghavam. At first, the movie seems like just another father-son tale. As soon as Dhanraj presents the main conflict, the story takes an intriguing twist. The first half solely concentrates on family drama, with several dramatic and predictable moments which hint about a possible change in the lead character.

Yet, this character reveals an unanticipated downward shift, which keeps viewers wondering about his motives right up to the finale. This theme of the son’s resentment towards his father is not a regular theme in Telugu Cinema

Despite that, the film contains a significant flaw. Director Dhanraj should have delved deeper into the son’s deviation from the right path and the shortcomings in his upbringing. Despite having ample time, he does not establish or justify the enmity of son towards the father and jumps straight to the conflict.

Because of this, one connects to the father’s anguish somehow, but the explanation for the son’s radical shift does not come across effectively. The emotional struggle between father and son feels insufficiently explored. This is the reason the climax does not achieve the desired impact.

Positives:

  • Shocking Conflict Point
  • Samuthirakani’s Performance
  • Few Emotional Scenes/Dialogues

Negatives:

  • No Strong Reason for the behavior of Son’s Character
  • Incosistent Narration
  • Few Unnecessary Scenes/Characters

Ramam Raghavam Movie Review and Verdict:

Ramam Raghavam is an honest attempt by Dhanraj to deliver a poignant drama with a shocking conflict and climax. However, it results in an inconsistent emotional drama. Though the performances and a few well-built scenes act as positives to the film, the film fails to capitalise on the intriguing idea and ends up as a below par watch.

Baapu Movie Review: A Sincere but Sluggish Family Drama

0

Movie Name: Bapu
Rating: 2.5/5
Cast: Brahmaji, Amani, Sudhakar Reddy, Dhanya Balakrishna, Srinivas Avarsala, Raccha Ravi and others.
Director: K. Dayakar Reddy
Produced By: Raju ch. Bhanu Prasad Reddy
Release Date: 21st February 2025

Bapu is the latest rural family drama starring Brahmaji, Balagam Sudhakar Reddy, and Aamani in the lead roles. Made against the Telangana Backdrop, the film hit the theaters today.

Story:

Set in a Telangana village, Baapu’s narrative follows Chanti (Racha Ravi), a JCB operator convinced of hidden treasures, who dreams of securing his future by acquiring two JCBs using the gold idol he unearthed. In an unexpected turn of events, someone steals the goddess idol from him. In contrast, Mallayya (Brahmaji) struggles financially as a cotton farmer, living in debt alongside his father Rajayya (Sudhakar Reddy), wife Saroja (Aamani), and their kids. As the narrative progresses, we discover the fate of the missing gold idol and the surprising scheme that Mallayya’s family devises to gain money.

Performances:

Brahmaji delivers an impressive performance in Baapu, showcasing a stark difference from his recent roles. He effectively conveyed the essential nature of the character. Aamani shows her expertise in performance. Dhanya Balakrishna, and Mani Aegurla deliver fine performances. Another key attraction of Baapu is Sudhakar Reddy, famous for his character in Balagam. He captivates audiences with his funny comedic timing. Srinivas Avasarala suits his character nicely, although the part is limited. Racha Ravi put on a commendable show.

Analysis:

Baapu’s narrative takes place in rural Telangana, featuring an intriguing mix of suspense and heartfelt emotions. The narrative begins with a gripping concept and progresses seamlessly with a satisfactory execution. With an imaginative idea and a moving conclusion, the director showcases his honesty. The key message of Baapu emphasizes that we cannot attain what isn’t meant for us or what we don’t merit. Dayakar Reddy, the director, tried to infuse it with well-executed suspenseful moments and humor and emotional depth, which worked at several places.

While the emotional scenes in the second half succeed, the first half falls short of expectations. The central storyline involving the family planning a shocking murder attempt needed a perfect justification or explanation. The sluggish and predictable moments, which often seem contrived, lessen the overall experience. The romantic plot containing Mani Aegurla lacks authenticity.

Positives:

  • Performances
  • Emotional Scenes
  • Climax

Negatives:

  • Sluggish Narration
  • Predictable Traits
  • Few Mishandled Characters

Bapu Movie Review and Verdict:

Baapu presents a sincere idea, yet the portrayal of a rural farming family struggling to survive feels lackluster despite incorporating some thrilling aspects. The film benefits from authentic performances and various key emotional scenes. However, it suffers from tedious moments and superfluous parts.

Jio Hotstar Disappointing Viewers

0

The merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar has resulted in the launch of Jio Hotstar, bringing together content from both platforms. While the update was expected to enhance the user experience, it has faced criticism from viewers due to several technical and content-related issues.

One of the major concerns raised by users is the frequent ads during live cricket streaming. Many netizens have complained that advertisements appear at very short intervals, disrupting the viewing experience. This has led to frustration among cricket fans who expect seamless streaming.

Another significant issue is the app’s performance. Several users have reported frequent hanging and lagging while streaming content. Many have had to repeatedly reopen the app to continue watching, leading to dissatisfaction.

Additionally, the shutdown of multiple channels after the merger has disappointed viewers. Some users feel that the new platform lacks the variety previously available on Disney+ Hotstar.

With these growing concerns, Jio Hotstar must address these issues to retain and attract more viewers. Optimizing the platform for smooth streaming, reducing ad interruptions, and ensuring content diversity will be key factors in improving the user experience.
