0

Dragon amd NEEK are the latest Tamil films that have been released in theaters in competition. Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam was directed by Dhanush and the other movie was directed by Ashwath Marimutthu. Dragon (Return of the Dragon) and NEEK 1st Weekend Worldwide Box Office Collections are as follows.

Dragon Dominates Dhanush’s NEEK at the Box Office

Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon had an excellent 1st weekend with a jump in collections on every day. In Tamil Nadu, the film opened with 5.75 Cr gross, and on Day 2 it went up to 9 Cr. On Day 3, the film gathered around 10 Cr gross, which takes the opening weekend’s gross to 25 Cr Gross. Dragon and NEEK 1st Weekend Worldwide Box Office Collections are out, and the former dominated Dhanush’s film.

Pradeep Ranganathan Scores His Second Hit in Telugu

Overseas collections too came good for Return of the Dragon (Telugu Title), as the film collected around 1.7M for weekend. In Telugu States, the film has collected more than 6 Cr gross. So, the overall worldwide gross of the film will be around 50 Cr for its 1st weekend. Today’s bookings also look strong, and the trade expects the film to continue the strong momentum at the box office.

NEEK had a disappointing 1st weekend in all areas. In Tamil Nadu, the movie collected around 4.5 Cr gross Worldwide, and the film has collected in the range of 8-8.5 Cr, which is a very disappointing number. Even though the film had decent reviews, it got hit by Dragon storm.

Dragon is heading towards a sensational blockbuster while Dhanush’s directional may end up as a commercial failure.

Dragon Telugu version rocking in America

0

Many films of Tier 2 Actors from Tollywood struggle to put good numbers in the US market. But now, the Telugu dubbed version of Dragon released as Return of the Dragon is rocking in the US along with its Tamil version. Pradeep Ranganathan is not yet a big star alike Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Vijay to pull off this feat.

Dragon is also not a big-budget film to attract the audience at this level. For 2 Days, the film has managed to collect $421,792. From this, US numbers are $371,751 and Canada’s are $50,221. Tamil version contributed $281,866 and Telugu Version supplied $139,926.

Dragon is on track to do more than $1 Million which is very huge for a medium-range Tamil film. Few of the Tamil Actors struggle to go past $1 Million in the US market, but Dragon has managed to establish a big record for Pradeep Ranganathan. Telugu Version’s contribution is helping the film a lot and is also expected to do $400K range in the full run.

The film also looks to gross more than 100 crores worldwide and this will be a magnificent achievement for Pradeep Ranganathan with just his second film as an Actor. Now, all eyes are on his upcoming film, LIK (Love Insurance Kompany) directed by Vignesh Shivan, which also happens to be a youthful entertainer. He has already emerged as a big star in Kollywood and with this film, it will go even further.

Vidaamuyarchi: Bigger Flop Than Valimai

0

Vidaamuyarchi is the latest film of Tamil star hero Ajith Kumar. The film was released in theaters worldwide on February 6, 2025. Sadly, it failed to match the expectations of fans and became a big failure at the box office. The biggest shocking thing is Vidaamuyarchi is a bigger flop than Valimai.

Valimai is the recent big failure for Ajith. Directed by H Vinoth, the film collected around 155 Cr gross worldwide, and Ajith’s latest film, Vidaamuyarchi, ended up as a bigger flop than Valimai, as it even struggled to go past the 150 Cr mark and finished its theatrical run with around 145 Cr gross worldwide.

If we observe the recent films from Ajith Kumar, they are not regular commercial films and offer more on action and crime. They were not presented in the regular commercial way or engaging way, which resulted in both films becoming big failures. Fans felt very sad that Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi became such a colossal failure at the box office.

Ajith needs to make a Strong Comeback

This weekend, Vidaamuyarchi failed to put up any numbers because Dragon ruled the box office, followed by Dhanush’s NEEK. For a star like Ajith, a film ending up with less than 150 Cr is definitely a bad sign, and it also shows his weakness at the box office as a star compared to other competitors.

Ajith needs to make a strong comeback. The positive sign is there are so many expectations on his upcoming film, Good Bad Ugly. The film must join Ajith in the 300 Cr club and expand his market.

Pradeep Ranganathan signs with Mythri Movie Makers

Kollywood Actor cum Director Pradeep Ranganathan rose to fame with Love Today, which emerged as a Blockbuster also establishing him as a successful Actor. With his second film, Dragon, he superseded his status becoming a star in Kollywood. The film is having an extraordinary weekend at the box office.

Dragon has already joined 50 crores gross by today and is expected to do more than 150 crores gross worldwide range collection in the full run. Now, the good news for the Actor is that the Production House, Mythri Movie Makers are in talks with him for a film. The Production House has already ventured into Kollywood with Good Bad Ugly starring Ajith which is slated for release on 10th April this year.

Ajith has also received his career highest remuneration with this film, and the Production House is trying to expand in Kollywood as well. Their film with Pradeep Ranganathan is said to be a Telugu – Tamil Bi-lingual film and is also said to be directed by a newcomer. It is also learned that this film was confirmed way before the release of Dragon. Now, with the immense success of Dragon, Mythri Movie Makers looks to plan big for Pradeep Ranganathan.

Pradeep Ranganathan is currently working for LIK (Love Insurance Kompany) under the direction of Vignesh Shivan. This film is planned for the Summer season this year. His next with Mythri Movie Makers will be only after this film. There is also a buzz that Pradeep Ranganathan is planning to repeat one more film with the combination of Dragon.

A few years ago, Balakrishna’s films faced trolls from Telugu audiences, including some fans. But now, his films are not only appreciated by Telugu audiences but also by viewers across India. Balakrishna made an epic comeback from trolls to triumph.

Game Changer: A Detailed Final Overview

0

The Collaboration:

Dil Raju committed to producing Indian 2 with Shankar, but due to budget constraints and other reasons, Dil Raju stepped away from the project. Shankar and Dil Raju mutually agreed to collaborate on another film in the future. Shankar then partnered with Lyca Productions for Indian 2, but after a few months, the project was halted due to budget issues.

Later, Shankar approached Dil Raju with a new idea penned by Karthik Subbaraj, which Dil Raju liked. Shankar initially envisioned Pawan Kalyan in the lead role, but due to Pawan Kalyan’s political commitments, Dil Raju suggested that the project could work for Ram Charan. Shankar met Ram Charan, narrated the idea, and Ram Charan liked it, leading to the project being officially signed.

Game Changer’s Pre-Production Strategy:

Ram Charan, during the movie discussions, was working on RRR. It is a well-known fact that after RRR, Ram Charan would emerge as a pan-India star, and Shankar already had a strong pan-India brand. So, the film was expected to work well in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi languages. Dil Raju planned a budget of around ₹300 crore, believing it would be feasible, and Shankar agreed.

The movie was announced as a landmark project for SVC, marking SVC 50, on February 12, 2021. The pooja ceremony took place on September 8, and the movie went on floors in October 2021. The initial plan was to follow continuous shooting schedules and aim for an early 2023 release.

Indian 2 Returns: Dil Raju’s Costly Misstep

Game Changer’s schedules have been continuing continuously. During this time, Kamal Haasan’s Vikram was released and became a resounding success. Following this, Red Giant Movies, the distributor of Vikram, stepped in to resolve the conflicts surrounding Indian 2. They discussed the issues with Lyca, replanned the budget, and even came on board as one of the producers.

They quickly brought Indian 2 back to sets. This is where Dil Raju went completely wrong — either he failed to secure a commitment from Shankar to avoid working on other films, or he didn’t fight hard enough to prevent the overlap. Shankar somehow convinced both the Indian 2 and Game Changer teams that he could handle both projects in parallel. Indian 2, after a long break, resumed shooting in August 2022, and that’s when the hurdles for Game Changer began.

The shooting of Game Changer was delayed, and the budget escalated significantly. Massive differences arose between the business partners, and Zee Studios, which was involved in the production, faced several challenges. The ongoing delays forced Dil Raju to take huge financial risks. He lost control over several aspects — the rising budget, shoot delays, movie footage, and even the release date.

Ultimately, Indian 2 was released in theaters before Game Changer and turned out to be a massive disaster. This put Game Changer in a deficit situation, as by then, the budget had already crossed ₹400 crore — ₹100 crore more than the initially planned amount.

Game Changer Post-Production Works, Pre-Release Hype and Business:

Shankar, after Indian 2 release, immediately returned to work on the post-production of Game Changer. Dil Raju requested Shankar to edit the film to a commercial runtime of around 165–170 minutes. At that time, Shankar had nearly 5 hours of footage. He spent a lot of time reviewing the film and even did a few reshoots. The post-production process dragged on, and after extensive editing, he finally trimmed the runtime to 165 minutes. However, this process led to crores of rupees being wasted on unused footage.

When it came to pre-release buzz, Thaman failed to deliver chartbuster songs, and nothing went viral. The teasers and posters didn’t create the expected impact, and Indian 2’s failure further damaged Shankar’s brand, casting a negative shadow over the film. The only factor keeping hopes alive was Ram Charan’s star power, which helped the film secure a theatrical business of around 200 crore. Including non-theatrical rights and other deals, Game Changer managed to fetch around 350 crore in total. However, with the film’s budget reportedly soaring to 450 crore by release time, Dil Raju ended up facing a deficit of over 100 crore.

Game Changer Review:

Game Changer started with weak character development, lacking a strong purpose, and failing to connect scenes and emotions in the first half. The love portion goes completely wrong, but the movie picks up good momentum by the interval. The flashback portions give hope that the movie is back on track, with Ram Charan delivering a stellar performance as Appanna in well-written scenes. However, the flashback is very short. After that, Ram Charan returns as an election officer, and the movie completely falls apart, with no clear direction. From that point until the end, things go from bad to worse, ultimately leading to a disappointing result.

Shankar mentioned trimming many good scenes from the film, but it’s hard to understand what those scenes were. Apart from the flashback and interval sequences, the rest of the movie lacks a single standout moment.

Game Changer Box Office:

Game Changer was released with a breakeven target of ₹450 crore gross but opened with a ₹85 crore start. Due to low pre-release hype, negative word of mouth, and poor reviews, the film failed to attract audiences. It ended up as a disaster in all languages. In Telugu, it collected ₹150 crore, ₹35 crore in Hindi, and ₹10 crore in Tamil, resulting in a total gross of ₹195 crore — achieving just 43% recovery.

Who Lost Big in the Game Changer Failure?

Definitely, the film did not impact Ram Charan’s stardom. Pulling a ₹200 crore gross despite all the odds is not easy, and he delivered a very good performance. The main losers with this film are Shankar and Dil Raju. Dil Raju lost crores of rupees — an unprecedented loss for him. As for Shankar, finding a producer for his next project has now become very difficult.

Final Word:

Game Changer had the potential to be a hit, with a good story and a strong character like Appanna. But poor planning, lack of control over schedules, and budget issues affected the film. If Dil Raju had handled Indian 2’s timing and Shankar’s overconfidence, things might have turned out better. Even adding more of Appanna’s flashback in the second half could have helped.

If you want to check it out, the film is streaming on Prime Video — You can give it a try for Ram Charan’s presence and his role as Appanna.
