Agathiyaa Movie Review: A Disappointing Period Horror-Thriller

0

Movie Name: Agathiyaa
Rating: 2/5
Cast:
Jiiva, Raashi Khanna, Arjun Sarja, Yogi Babu and others
Director:
Pa. Vijay
Produced By:
Ishari K. Ganeshan and Aneesh Arjun Dev
Release Date: 28th February 2025

Aghathiyaa is the latest Tamil movie, which has been dubbed into Telugu and was released in theaters today. The film stars Jiiva, who recently starred in a scientific-horror film Black, and Raashi Khanna in the lead roles.

Story:

Aghathiyaa (Jiiva), an art director, teams up with friends like Veena (Raashi Khanna) to turn an old mansion into a scary house for profit. Soon, they find out that the mansion is haunted. What events unfolded in this bungalow? What links Siddharth, skilled in Siddha medicine, to Edwin Duplix? How does this relate to a unique planetary alignment occurring once every 85 years? As the narrative unfolds, these mysteries come to light.

Performances:

Arjun suits his role, but his character does not have much impactful writing despite being almost the lead. While Jiiva does a decent job, he has little room for growth except for a handful of emotional instances. Raashi Khanna is okay. Redin Kingsley and Edward Sonnenblick do a fine job as supporting actors. Rohini, the actress, undergoes an unexpected change for her character and is okay.

Analysis:

Agathiyaa tries to blend India’s traditional medicine and history with a horror plot. However, the intent does not match the execution. Some jump scares are effective, but the flashback episodes with Arjun Sarja, which deal with the ancient Indian Medicine concept begin promisingly yet falter in pacing. The excitement fades because of an imperfect link between past and present scenes. The second half especially fails to engage. The climax’s animated action sequence lacks impact and is silly.

Positives:

  • A few Scenes involving Indian Medicine Concept
  • Initial Jump Scares

Negatives:

  • Weak Characters/Writing
  • Stretched Narration
  • Climax Action Sequence

Agathiyaa Movie Review and Verdict:

Aghathiyaa is a disappointing period horror thriller. Except for a few handful of moments, the film fails to connect. It suffers from a routine plot, inconsistent narration, and underwhelming thrills.

Mazaka collections worldwide: Two days box office

0

Mazaka starring Sundeep Kishan released on the occasion of Maha Shiva Rathri on Feb 26th. The film, however, had a less opening day number and fell even lower than that on Day 2, because of a mid-week period. The status of the film is also expected to be the same today. For 2 Days, Mazaka has collected only around 4 crores gross, and share will also be in the range of 1.5 crores.

The film needs to collect 12 crore share for the breakeven mark. It must have a big push tomorrow to recover the buyers. The team also conducted a success meet yesterday. One thing that was good about the team was its frankness in accepting the film’s low opening performance. They said that the film didn’t open well as per their expectations and requested the audiences take the film forward if they had liked the film.

The team has also put high hopes on the upcoming weekend, believing that it will see a jump in the collections. This is surely a disappointing turnaround for the Director Trinadha Rao Nakkina who scored a blockbuster with his Dhamaka previously.

No Devi Sri Prasad tunes for Good Bad Ugly?

0

Tollywood Music Director Devi Sri Prasad was initially part of Good Bad Ugly starring Ajith. But he had a fallout with the Production House of the film, Mythri Movie Makers, during their Pushpa 2. The Production House then replaced him with G.V. Prakash Kumar for Good Bad Ugly immediately. This decision came at a time when the shoot of the film had almost been completed. The fate of the music score for the film by DSP remained unknown.

It is now learned that Devi Sri Prasad hasn’t scored any tunes for the film so far. But when the team announced the replacement of his, a major portion of the shoot had been completed, as said, and many thought that G.V. Prakash Kumar might compose only the BGM portion for Good Bad Ugly on the likes of Sam C.S. for Pushpa 2. The name of Devi Sri Prasad is also missing in the posters released till now.

The big question audience have is who would have composed the songs for the film? No song has been released yet and we need to see how the team will come up at the right moment. G.V. Prakash Kumar, on the other hand, has officially announced his work for the film. So it can be understood that he would compose the songs.

The Teaser of the film is slated for release today at 7:03 PM. Fans and Audience have been waiting eagerly for the film as Ajith suffered a big debacle in the form of Vidaamuyarchi recently. They hope that Good Bad Ugly would compensate for their disappointment.

Shabdham Movie Review: A Half-Hearted Sound Thriller

0

Movie Name: Shabdham
Rating: 2.75/5
Cast: Aadhi Pinisetty, Lakshmi Menon, Simran, Laila, M.S. Bhaskar, and Redin Kingsleyand others
Director: Arivazhagan
Produced By: 7G Films and AAlpha Frames
Release Date: 28th February 2025

Shabdham (Sabdham in Tamil), starring Aadhi Pinisetty was publicized as a true-blue horror film sticking only to scary elements. The film’s trailer and posters created interest among audiences. Let’s check out whether the film has lived up to the expectations or not.

Story:

Holy Angeles has a rich 70-year history as a top medical college. However, several suicides occur on the college premises, which makes students and staff whisper about the ghosts’ involvement in those incidents. Fearing that persistent rumors will harm the institution, the dean employs Mr. Vyoma (Aadhi Pinisetty), a paranormal investigator, to find a solution. What does he discover? The film centers on solving the mystery of the gruesome deaths.

Performances:

Aadhi Pinisetty plays a refined character and perfectly executes the job. Lakshmi Menon’s character deviates from typical heroines and drives the narrative. She performs impressively in all the crucial parts. As the hero’s assistant, Redin Kingsley delivers humor throughout the story. Simran stands out in a vital role, whereas Laila is decent. MS Bhaskar and Rajiv Menon were fine.

Analysis:

Arivazhagan directs Shabdham (Sabdham). The movie hooks us right from the start. The initial deaths provide the intrigue, and the setting for the hero’s introduction is perfect. The subsequent portions also keep the flow of narrative, and though there is very little happening story-wise, it is interesting nonetheless. The interval block provides a neat bang after all the buildup and raises the anticipations towards the second half.Post-interval, things feel different. While the flashback is engaging, it unfolds predictably and ends typically, and even the climax is unsatisfying. One can guess the proceedings and the reason behind deaths. The emotional impact is effective, but the grip in the initial half fades away in Shabdham’s second half.

Positives:

  • Main Plot
  • First Half
  • Sound Mixing and a Few Visuals

Negatives:

  • Weak Second Half
  • Predictable Twists
  • Few Confusing Parts

Shabdham Movie Review and Verdict:

Overall, Shabdham is a half-hearted sound thriller. The film’s first half is engaging, and it is technically rich, but the effect misses in the second half because of the unimpressive and predictable narration. Thriller movie lovers can try it.

Coolie: A Sure Shot 1000 Cr Film

0

Coolie, the upcoming action thriller starring superstar Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is the most anticipated film from Tamil Cinema this year. There are already massive expectations on the film because of the hero-director combination and the huge star cast. Now, Sundeep Kishan takes the film’s hype to the next level as he says that Coolie is a sure-shot 1000 Cr film.

Sundeep Kishan is confident of Coolie collecting 1000 Crore at the Box Office

During the promotions of his latest film Mazaka, actor Sundeep Kishan talked about Coolie. Though he is not a part of the film, he went to the film’s sets as Lokesh is his friend and witnessed Superstar Rajinikanth. “I watched 45 minutes of the film. It will definitely collect 1000 crores,” said the actor. The fans of Rajini are currently sharing this clip, as Sundeep Kishan takes the film’s hype to the next level as he says that Coolie is a sure-shot 1000 Cr film.

Rajini – Lokesh Movie will need a lot of help fro the Hindi Market

Definitely, Coolie has a capacity of collecting 1000 Cr gross at the worldwide box office if the makers give a big release in Hindi. Especially for multiplex screens, they need to give an 8-week theatrical window, and in Telugu, it has the potential to collect more than 100 Cr gross. In its original language, Tamil, it can go near 600 Cr, and for the rest of the target, the film definitely needs a big help from the Hindi version. Without the Hindi version, getting a 1000 Cr number will definitely not be possible for the Rajini starrer and Lokesh Directorial.

Lokesh Kanagaraj debuted with Sundeep Kishan’s film, and the netizens continuously ask/feel that the actor deserves another chance from Lokesh, and many want the director to bring Sundeep Kishan into LCU and give him a good role. We need to wait and see whether the Khaithi director will oblige the public demand in his upcoming films of LCU.
