Business of the film is around 400Crs and with holiday and strong wom the film is expected to have an excellent weekend ahead. On its opening Day the film has grossed 153.75Crs worldwide in all languages. In Telangana it collected a Gross of 28Crs and in Andhra it collected a Gross of 32Crs. After that, the team will be back on to the sets from the 2nd January for another 7-10 Days shoot after celebrating New Year.

The entire shoot is expected to be completed by March 2024 and Ram Charan will start Buchi Babu’s film from April 2024.

KGF Part 1’s Kannada version worked very well in Karnataka. It was released as a Kannada film, and other versions did not have significant numbers then. KGF 2’s Kannada version did smaller numbers than KGF 1 in Karnataka.

Even with other languages’ massive support for KGF 2, there is little difference in KGF 2 and KGF 1 numbers in Karnataka. A small-budget film, Kantara, broke the KGF 2 record, an example of how KGF 2 had underperformed in Karnataka. Kannada version KGF 1 is miles away from KGF 2 in Karnataka. 

Now Salaar, the latest film, was released this Friday. Usually, it has to take a record opening in Karnataka, and the Kannada version should have worked big as Prashant Neel is the director and Hombale Films are the producers. But still, the numbers, just like Prabha s’s Biggie and Prashanth Neel’s image or name, did not make any difference. 

The Kannada version of Salaar should have worked well for the opening. We need to see whether it will work in full run or not. It clearly shows how Kannada people have yet to fully own Prashanth Neel. We can say Telugu people have owned Prashanth Neel much more than Kannada people.

With the combination of Baahubali Hero and KGF Director, everyone expected the film to break Indian Cinema opening records, and the trade anticipated that the numbers would be bigger than the opening of films like RRR and Baahubali or at least it would collect an opening of 200Cr.

Salaar falls short of the expectations at the box office

But Salaar failed to break the KGF 2 opening day which is around 165Cr gross. As per the early estimates, an opening of 150Cr gross is doubtful for Salaar and we need to wait for the full numbers.

Salaar did not see much big openings in other languages

For sure, Salaar has fallen short of expectations. Somehow, the numbers in the other languages, mainly in Hindi, are small for the film. Everyone expected it would have a 40 start, but it just has a 15 Cr start. Even in Karnataka, which is Prashant Neel’s own state, the numbers are not big, while 90% of overseas numbers are coming from the Telugu version only, and the other languages have not been supported well.

Coming to the Telugu States, Salaar has performed excellently in Nizam, while in Andhra Pradesh, it just opens like a typical big film and is not in the range of SS Rajamouli films.

From Karnataka around 6Cr and from north India around 7Cr share is being expected for Salaar. So, when it comes to total India the film is expected to take 60Cr+ share and from overseas around 25Cr share is expected, which takes the total worldwide share to 85Cr+ and gross in the range of 150Cr.

Salaar, based on an imaginary Khansaar world, is about the relationship between two best friends, Deva and Varadha. When there is a danger to Varadha’s life, Deva steps in and adjusts things to his friend’s desires. However, unexpected events make the best friends turn into enemies.

Prabhas plays the main character in Salaar, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, and Jagapathi Babu in other significant roles. The movie Vijay Kiragandur produced is the first collaboration between director Prashanth Neel and Pan-Indian star Prabhas. On December 22, the film has been released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
