Story: Taking place in the Madras presidency of British India in 1945, Devil (Kalyan Ram) is a British Secret Agent who undertakes the task of unraveling a murder mystery. The investigation leads to several turns and Devil gets to face many unexpected events in the process. His romantic involvement with Naishada (Samyuktha) leads him to Manimekala (Malavika Nair) and her freedom fighters’ group. How Devil gets succeeded in his investigation? What is his main intention? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.

Performances: Nandamuri Kalyan Ram did well as Devil. His dialogue diction and performance in a few key emotional episodes were perfect. Samyuktha gets a meaty roel and does complete justice to it. Malavika Nair, Shafee, Vashishta Simha, Mark Bennington and others were appropriate.

Devil First Half Review:

The initial portions start in intriguing mode as the narrative does not waste time, and the murder investigation scenes look impressive. The music appeared below par as songs did not make any impact, and the background score could have been much better. The interval episode lacked the emotional impact as the love track was improperly handled.

Devil Second Half Review:

The second half starts on a perfect note and continues to maintain the same momentum. The critical revelation episode of “Trivarna” worked big, and the following turns were also good. The action episode towards the Climax was not that impressive, but the finale scene was terrific. The film could have been on another level if the first half and the love track were dealt with properly. But still, it has enough content to be an engaging affair.

Rebel Star Prabhas’ Salaar 1st week box-office collections brought happy news for the makers with good numbers overall. The 1st 5 days saw excellent collections and saw a drop on day 5 and day 6. The film’s Telugu version theatrical rights are valued at 250Cr and the film has recovered more than 70% within the week which is good news for the makers.

Nizam was the best-performing territory for the Salaar just as expected. The theatrical rights for Nizam were sold at Rs 65Cr and the movie has collected 61Cr share already and will achieve breakeven by this Sunday. Andhra Pradesh saw decent collections but needs an extraordinary 2nd weekend for buyers to be safe. The New Year holiday on Monday is very crucial and also a big advantage for Salaar. The buyers are expecting the film will have a massive 2nd weekend.

Coming to the overseas market, the Telugu version performed well and it did the expected numbers in 1st week. However, the other languages did not support well and overall collections failed to match expectations.

Salaar has non-Rajamouli record 1st-week collections and it has already crossed the non-SSR industry hit Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo by a good margin. Now the film is all set go join the 200CR club by this weekend.

PVR INOX Passport offer is finally launching in South India; the pre-registration link and details are now available

PVR INOX’s much-awaited Passport offer is launching in south India. The subscription service allows moviegoers to watch up to 10 movies per month for a fixed fee of Rs 699. PVR INOX passport service is valid for weekday movie screenings and excludes premium offerings like IMAX, Gold, LUXE, and Director’s Cut.

The PVR INOX Passport can be purchased for a minimum subscription period of three months. A single user can enjoy the benefits of the passport as it is a non-transferrable subscription.

The subscription service was first launched in select cities and is now expanding to various other cities across India. From South India, the PVR INOX passport offer will be available major cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore along with other tier 2 towns where PVR INOX chains are present.

The Passport when launched was valid at all PVR & INOX cinemas across India, except the Southern states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana, and cities including Chandigarh, Puducherry, Pathankot, Srinagar, Bharuch, Bhiwadi, Jorhat, Kalka, Siliguri and Colombo. But with the latest expansion, the service will be available in all the cities where the multiplex chain is present.

RRR may not have collected in the range of Baahubali 2, but a standalone film collecting a mammoth figure of 1200Cr Gross is not easy and more than that, he got massive recognition in international markets with RRR. No director can match Rajamouli in Indian Cinema.

As said above, RRR, the film got international acclaim and the film registered massive success in Japan and the film also went on to won many international awards, including an Oscar.

There are other big directors in the Indian film industry, like SSR, who hail from different industries and are ruling their respective industries like from Kollywood Lokesh Kanagaraj was the latest sensation and current no 1 director of that industry.

With his latest film, Leo, Lokesh scored a big hit as the film did super numbers, but the content failed to match the expectations and many were unable to digest how could Lokesh Kanagaraj write a weak story. 

Another director, Prashant Neel from Kannada had created a bigger brand with KGF Series at pan India level. Now he has released Salaar with Prabhas and the movie did not reach the expectations of all audiences which reflected in the BO numbers and trade expects to close under 700Cr Gross or even lesser.

The same goes with Bollywood master filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. The renowned director saw his first setback with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki which is registering very low numbers at the box office. All these films prove that setting the standards and reaching them with each movie is not an easy task and no one can achieve that feat like Rajamouli currently in Indian Cinema.

The audiences are always wanted an early OTT release for any film and when a film like Salaar releases they get excited more, but practically, it is not possible as Pan India films will not choose for a four-week OTT release and also in the Hindi market, the National Multiplexes like PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis will not screen a film if it opts for four week OTT release. 

So, as Salaar has released in National Plexes in North India, the film getting released on OTT within four weeks is not at all possible. Mostly OTT Platforms or Producers will want to stream all the languages on the same day. 

Salaar can collect good numbers during Sankranthi

Also, in Telugu, the date of 12th January comes during the Sankranthi festival period, so no Producer would want to lose any bit of revenue and commit to an early OTT release as they will expect the movie will have a long run at the box office.

Though the movie has witnessed drops but it has collected a good number of worldwide Gross of 460Cr. The agreements for the film’s digital release would have been signed long back ago. If OTT platforms offer some more bigger prices, some films Producers might go for a four-week OTT release and that too for South Indian languages, but in Hindi, they cannot release the film at that time. If we go language wise, Salaar performed excellently in Telugu states for 5 days, but suddenly, it dropped on day 6 and day 7 witnessed much more drop. Overall in Telugu states the film’s Share is expected to be in the range of 123Cr including GST and the Gross will be in the range of 175Cr.

In Karnataka, the film opened well but witnessed a drop from day 2 itself and the drop continued to go bigger by each day. The overall 1st week Gross of Salaar will be around 34.5Cr.

The film had the same trend in Kerala and the 1st week Gross will be in the range of 13.5 Cr and Tamil Nadu also it will be around 18Cr.

Coming to North India, the movie did not rise well much on holiday weekend, but it started to maintain strong numbers from the Christmas Day. There have been rumors that corporate bookings have happened, but those will happen for many Bollywood movies. Salaar’s North India 1st week Gross is expected to be in the range of 110Cr.

Total all over India Gross of Salaar will be around 350Cr+ and Overseas will be in the range of 13M [108Cr] which makes the Worldwide Gross close to 460Cr.
