Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter arriving on OTT this week

Fighter starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone and directed by Siddharth Anand released on 25th January amidst positive reviews and favorable word of mouth. The film got off to a decent start and did well over the Republic Day and subsequent weekend. Fighter, however, failed to cash in on the momentum and subsequently crashed.

Box office wise, this Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starter did well overseas with more than 100 Cr collection without Gulf release. Middle East has been one of the strongest territories for Bollywood and not releasing in this market has impacted the film’s business and numbers a lot. The movie failed to clear the censors in the entire Middle East, UAE, and Gulf countries and was not released in the region. 

In India, the numbers were ordinary compared to the talk it got. Overall, Fighter collected a worldwide gross of Rs 370 Cr gross which was way below everyone’s expectations.

The film is now getting ready for its OTT release and will have its digital premiere on 21st March on Netflix. The action drama featured an impressive star cast of Hrithik, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor and is directed by Siddharth Malhotra whose earlier film Pathan was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023

Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD Impacts Devara

With multiple pan-India releases scheduled this year and multiple delays and several last-minute postponements for all, the release dates have become a game of musical chairs. NTR’s Devara was officially announced on April 5th and later it was announced that it will be released on 10th October.

However, there’s a twist to it. The Devara team has informed the distributor, insiders, and some media persons that if Pushpa 2 gets postponed, Devara will be moved to the 15th of August release. But, that’s not the end of the story as Devara may now compete with Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD as well.

With General Elections and AP Assembly elections scheduled in the coming months, there are more chances for Kalki 2898 AD to go for 15th August in case of Pushpa 2 postponement. However, in the case of Sukumar and Allu Arjun sticking to 15th August, there will be no changes and Devara will stick to 10th October.

Kalki is slated to release on 9th May while the Elections are scheduled on 13th May. Whether Nag Ashwin and co. decide to brave the elections or go for a later date is something only time will tell.

Family Star Movie Finds its OTT Partner

Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur starrer Family Star is nearing its release. The film has managed to create good anticipation due to this fresh pairing and return of Vijay and Parasuram combo after the superhit Geeta Govindam. With Dil Raju backing this film, it is indeed quite promising on paper. Usually, for such projects, the business deals are closed even before the film goes on the floors.

However, due to the recent crash of the OTT market and with Dil Raju quoting a high price for rights, the OTT business is taking longer than usual to close. The main reason behind Dil Raju quoting such prices is the film budget exceeding the set mark. Finally, the deal is done and Amazon Prime Video has bagged the rights.

Coming to the theatrical rights, Dil Raju is expecting around 50 Cr. One of the main reasons for this expectation is Vijay Deverakonda and Parasuram combination which collected more than Rs 65 crores last time with Geetha Govindam. In addition to this, Mrunal Thakur has managed to create a following for herself thanks to the success of Seeta Ramam and Hi Nanna. Family Star will hit the screens worldwide on 5th April.

Girish A.D’s Premalu is continuing its wonderful run at the box office with terrific occupancies on weekends and continued public support in multiple languages. Premalu was released more than a month ago and is still minting numbers in Malayalam. 10 days back, the romantic comedy-drama was released in Telugu and has managed to win the audience’s love in Telugu states. It has collected 8 Cr gross in Telugu states and worldwide, the Telugu version grossed more than 10 Cr.

Last weekend, the Tamil version was released and this also performed well by collecting more than 2 Cr gross. Total Worldwide all versions of Premalu have collected 115 Cr gross which is sensational. The film is expected to continue the good run for another two weeks.

If the film continues its form, then it has a great chance to break blockbuster Lucifer’s final gross of 128 Cr and will settle all-time top 4 in Mollywood. Currently, the top 3 all-time grossers in the Malayalam industry after Manjummel Boys, 2018 movie, and Pulimurugan.

The film emerged as a massive hit in Malayalam and managed to run to superb occupancies and continuous audience love in both Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu. Set in Hyderabad, Premalu follows the life of two youngsters played by Nalsen and Mamitha and their dynamics and blossoming love.

Guntur Kaaram Televison Premiere Details

‘Super Star’ Mahesh Babu’s action drama film Guntur Kaaram (2024) was an average venture at the box office. Releasing on the Sankranthi weekend, it received highly negative reviews from both critics and audiences. While experts predicted a competitive crash, the film fared decently on weekdays too; this can be attributed to the festival season, family content, and of course Mahesh Babu’s incredible box-office stamina in pulling audiences to theatres.

After a decent run at the ticket window, Guntur Kaaram premiered on Netflix across the five major languages of the country; in contrast to the word-of-mouth it received upon release, it received a mixed-to-positive response from streaming audiences. And surprisingly, it attracted good viewership from Tamil and Hindi audiences too.

Having said that, fans are convinced that, though it is miles away from being Guruji’s best work, it is not as bad as people claimed it to be. Now the film is set for a litmus test through TV audiences; the Trivikram-directorial is all set for a grand premiere on Gemini TV on the auspicious festival of Ugadi.
